' The Exeter Atoms swept both
their games this past week in
Shamrock Hockey League Action
a& they beat Huron Park 5-1 and
toppled Belmont 5-2.
• Saturday's game against
Huron Park saw both teams go
scoreless in the first period
before Chris Van Gerwen put
Exeter ahead with his first goal
of the night early in the second.
John Kernick and Scott Brintell
picked up assists. Less than a
minute later Kernick got the
eventual game winner making
the score 2-0 for Exeter going into
the third.
Huron Park's lone marker
came with 3:50 gone in the third
Bobby Rock picked up the pass
from Trevor Gilcrest to beat
Scott Hartley who was tending
the Exeter nets,
Steve Batten put the game out
of reach fnr Exeter at 5:25 of the
third on a set up by Steve Laith-
waite and Darren Vandergunst,
Van Gerwen added his second
goal of the game before Brintnell
finished off the scoring with a
minute left.
It was much the same story in
Belmont on Sunday, except that
Peter Dearing was in the net for
the Exeter team,
Brintnell opened the scoring for
Exeter and started an onslaught
that saw Exeter get four goals in

equipment. In 1973 they branched
out into selling motorcycles,
From this base they moved into
promotional activities. They
have run several Motocross
competitions, as well as hosting
the Ontario Grass Drag Cham-
pionships this year.
Holly Gully now consists of
three race tracks, nature trails
and over 2,000 acres of
snowmobile trails, offering a
variety of events to Huron County
families, As well as racing
motorized contrivances, Hully
Gully has also been the sight of
such things as a Suinmerfest,
Canoe Racing and a Maple Syrup
Festival,
The Huron Cup event was first
organized by Spence Cummings,
the development officer for
Huron County and Randy Collins,
President of Hully
Gully, M.P. Bob McKinley
donated the original trophy.
The Huron Cup is now
recognized by the Ontario
Snowmobile Racing Federation.
It is expected that this year
there will be over 1,000 entrants
in the 15 classes, almost 3 times
as many as last years races.
Cliff Johnson, original winner
of the Huron Cup and Brian
Graydon, of Tillsonburg, last
year's winner will both be
returning to race again this year.
Rob Grant at 17:11 when Randy
Funston and Terry Underhill set
him up for the goal. Dennis
'Bierling finished off the scoring
for Exeter late in the period on a
pass from Parsons,
47 seconds into the second
period and it was 6-1 for Exeter
as Jack Glover scored from
Howard Churchill, Murray
Glanville scored the first of his
two goals of the evening, an
unassisted effort that came while
Daters was off serving a tripping
call, along with Jim Dingwell.
Bob Parsons tallied again for
the Plugs before Daters got
Exeter's eighth of the night.
Glanville scored again in the
period, once again while the
Mohawks were shorthanded. His
7unbssisted goal came with just
over a minute left in the period.
Bob Parsons got the only goal
of the third period, to finish off
the scoring for Huron Park and
the game.
Glanville was the hottest man
on the ice for the Mohawks, as his
skating and tenacious penalty
killing along with his scoring kept
the Plugs at bay.
The Mohawks took 19 of the 25
penalties called, including
majors to Daters and Gary
Parsons and a misconduct to
Parsons.
Sunday night the name of the
game was scoring as the
Mohawks handed league leading
Parkhill their second loss of the
season. Parkhill's only other loss
of the year came at the hands of
the Mohawks as well.
Bierling and Churchill were the
big men for Exeter as they came
up with four of the nine goals
scored during the game.
At one point in the second
period, the Mohawks led 5-0 but
Parkhill stormed back and the
Exeter club was forced to settle
for the 9-8 squeaker.
The two wins leave Exeter with
8 wins and 6 losses for the season.

should the snow melt, the
organizers have a contingency

be reflooded if the need arises so
that there will be racing snow or
no snow. The flooding has created
a 4 inch ice base on the track.
