Mrs. Hart received the order for the bags about mid-November after being in contact with the Ilderton Skating Club and has been busy with them ever since, All the bags must be delivered to the officials of the meet by December 30. The bags can be used by the skaters either to carry their costumes to and from the arena or for their clothing. Each gar- ment bag is being sold to the competition for the cost of $9.50. The organizers of the event found out, about Mrs. Hart because of the skate tote' bags that she used to make for the local skating club. They were sold by the club to raise funds to send its members to com- petitions, Mrs. Hart's daughter is a member of the club. ,„ Garment bags are not the only way Mrs. Hart is involved with sports. She also manufactures cushions for eight boat manufacturers, including North Star Yachts Ltd. in Huron Park, Exe-Fibercraft in Exeter and her husband's Hayfield Boat Yard. This has added complications to her already busy schedule as she will have to have cushions complete for the manufacturers to display with their products at the Boat Show which takes place in Toronto just after Christmas. Although Fergie was the top attraction, Main purpose of the gathering was to honor two larget in person than one gets the impression through seeing him on the TV screen along with groups of other large men. At a guess, Fergie must be about a' 5" and 210 lbs. But, this poundage is. championship area ball teams from the season just passed. The Blanshard Midgets emerged as WOAA major champs while the Kirkton Woodham Combines won the Intermediate WOAA Major Championship. Leon Paul was well distributed over the frame, MC for the very successful Fergie is an athlete from head to evening, shoe bottom Fergie Jenkins, a native of . Regarding his move to. Boston Chatham, Ontario, near which Red Sox, American League, for city he now operates a large farm the 1976 season, Fergie seemed to during the off season, is much be well pleased. After all, he has always wanted to play in a Championship team, a wish that has eluded him d aring seasons with Philadelphia, Chicago and lately with Texas Rangers. If any hall team looks like a hot can- didate for World Series honours in 76 we would be inclined to pick this same Boston Red Sax, Fergie believes he has at least five more good years in major ball so it will be interesting to see how he makes out in Boston. Changes in the method of playing the game, largely designed to make ball more in- teresting from a spectator viewpoint, have not made life any easier for a big league pitcher. The ball itself has changed over recent years to resemble a slightly over -sized golf ball, both in make-up and appearance. Hitters drive these balls almost as far as golf balls once they connect and this combined with the other factors has changed the game considerably in recent years, Biggest thrill for Fergie was during an All-Star game. He was On the mound and the great Micky Mantle came up to bat, Once 50,000 fans rose to give Mantle a big hand and then Fergie proceeded to strike him out. Desire is the big thing in any sport and no less so in baseball. While the chances of a good Canadian ball-player such as Fergie even beng scouted, let alone getting a playing chance in the big leagues, remain on the slim side, Fergie Jenkins is certainly proof that it sometimes does and can happen. Another top-notch pitcher, Robbie Amos was honoured Friday night when Fergie Jenkins presented him with a plaque for pitching a perfect game last season. Robbie retired 27. Fergie was thanked for his talk in a very capable manner by Lloyd McLean. Lloyd is active in minor sports as a coach in Blanshard Minor Ball. ONLY 53795 1974 P.400 step van, 7.56x16 dual tires.
