Normally, a swinging bar for the younger set, the hotel served up coffee and donuts to the crowd as they enjoyed music provided by the Molly McGuires, an Irish folk group. "When we started this thing last year we said that we would make it an annual affair" remarked Phil Lewis, one of the proprietors of the Shellelagh, between trips back and forth from the bar with trays of coffee, donuts and the odd glass of sherry for his enthusiastic guests. The Sh4lielagh picks up the tab forqhe a4ternoon's fun and en- tertainment. Several weeks before' the specified day, they begin calling various senior citizen groups in the area, in- viting them to come out. "Its our Christmas gift to them", Phil explained. "We figure they are kind of special and they deserve a special gift." The hotel has had an over- whelming response to the idea, filling up every table both years. All card holding members of Branch 540 are reminded, Friday, December 19th between the hours of 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. we will be holding our annual ap- preciation night. This is when we roll the clock back to old time prices — Just 540's way of saying `Thank You' to the membership for your co-operation during 1975. Don't forget kiddies Saturday, December 20th is when Santa visits Branch 540 members children — he has sent a film along ahead of time to keep all the kiddies entertained until Santa arrives — the film will start at about 1,30, So make sure you are there and meet the jolly old chap as he makes his annual visit to the Lucan Legion. This is your last chance to get those 1976 dues paid prior to the end of 1975 and of becoming an "We try to include everybody," Phil said. When we call a senior citizens' organization, we ask them to please include anyone Senior citizens pay tribute Alex Young. The Busy Buddies moving to their new craft room on the second floor of the Hall continued liquid embroidery. Special thanks to Alex Young for in- stalling thefluorescent lighting for the group. A poem was read by Florence Hodgins entitled "Help" and lunch was served by Rose and Alice Atkinson and Ann Kish, early bird. This being the Royal Canadian Legions Golden Anniversary, just imagine 50 years of service to our Nation and to our communities — therefore our goal this year is to attempt to get 50 percent of our membership paid up as Early Birds. Please do your best and make our goal a reality — its up to you Comrade. Asthiswill be the last comments until the New Year may I take this opportunity to wish all my readers a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year. It has been fun writing comments and I trust you have had as much fun reading them, And that's 30 for this year — remember — They say TV is really still in its infancy, which helps explain why you have to get up so much to change it. who doesn't belong to the group. We don't like to leave anyone out." Phil said that enjoyment of the special day isn't just confined to the seniors. "Last year there were two couples in the hotel who just happened to be there on that day. He pointed to the two younger couples, who were back for the second year in a row, seated amongst the happy crowd. "They liked watching the people having a good time and asked to reserve a table for this year", Phil chuckled, I've had a number of people between 40 and 50 years old who have said that they hope that program is still going on when they become seniors." The Molly McGuires are the kind of singing group who get the hands clapping and voices singing along. When they are on stage, there isn't a head in the Wednesday. Phil was hoping to get some of them up on stage, singing and dancing as they had done the year before, Unfortunately, one of the spontaneous stars of last year's show, an accomplished fiddle player, passed away a week before the big day, 6166111 tttttt iiiiii iiiii 1116116111 iiiiiiii Illo n4.
