sultants has delivered to Council,
for its consideration, an
amended set of zoning by-laws
and an official plan. Planning
board has attempted to an-
ticipate future growth and
development within the Town and
has recognized certain problems
with the existing by-laws.
The changes have been covered
fairly well in the press and it is
hoped that all interested citizens
will have read the papers to learn
that changes have been made
and (ill what exactly the changes
were. In general, however, the
Official Plan provides for
variations in family dwellings;
that is, Exeter will not provide
for row housing and con-
dominiums. As well, the Com-
mercial zone has been expanded
east and west from the core and
to the north of the river.
There are also changes
regarding parking and lot size.
Certainly the local contractors
and those anticipating building
new homes should make them-
selves aware , of these
requirements immediately.
In the past, much discussion
has centred on the extension of
Alexander Street, It would ap-
pear now that Planning Board
and Council have sorted out the
problem in their own minds, and
have prepared a rationale for its
extension. Council earlier
promised to meet with the plant
managers who operate
organizations on highway 83 to
discuss the situation before any
final steps are taken. It is ex-
pected that this meeting will take
place before December 18,
Several situations have arisen
in the last few months which
involve people and zoning by-
laws. It is important, therefore,
that everyone examine what is
being done, determine why it is
being done and to what extent the
individual is involved. To help
you find the answers to these
problems, maps, the Plan and the
Zoning By-Laws will be on
display in the Town Office from
now until December 18, and a
public meeting will be held on
December 18 at 8:00 o'clock to
g . If
objections are to be raised or
questions asked, it is important to
be present at the public meeting.
According, to Gord Kirk,
president of the club, there are
already about 20 members with
more on the way. "We've been
holding roll call on channel 22 for
the last couple of weeks every
Sunday night. We have
established a roster of about 40
people.
The executive has lined up a
number of ambitious projects for
the club in coming months.
Perhaps most noteworthy is a
planned free delivery service to
senior citizens during the
Christmas shopping rush,
Members would deliver parcels
and groceries to older persons
and shut-ins who find it difficult
or impossible to carry heavy
packages. "We're going to see
the merchants in town about
getting it started, I think they will
go for it," Gord said.
The club has also been doing
some thinking about getting a
little gift for each person in the
hospital over Christmas, if they
can get their membership up.
The club will cover not only
Exeter, but the surrounding
district. "Anyone with a license
can join", Gord said. They hope
to start a school for younger
people so that they can learn the
proper way to handle a radio.
Children must be at least 12 to
talk on the citizens' band and 16
to obtain a license. "We're taking
anyone from 12 up if they have a
parent with a license," This club
will be a family affair, not just
men", Gard emphasized.
Other members of the club
executive are Mike Hunter, vice-
president, Greg Pfaff, treasurer,
Sharon Bede, secretary and Mike
Foreman, chairman.
Gord said that many plans
have been laid and hoped that
they all would be successful.
"We're planning way ahead and
hoping to do it all,"
He stressed the club was
organized to provide service to
the community, rather than out
of any monetary consideration,
We'll help just about anyone.
We'll be listening for those in
distress."
NEW C.B. CLUB FOR EXETER — Gord Kirk, president of Exeter's new citizens' band radio club, looks on as
Ray Glanville checks outs already about 20 members strong and participated in the Santa Claus Parade,
