McLean of McCormick Home, Mrs. Jack Murdy called on Mrs, Alma Price on Friday, Some time ago Rev, and Mrs. E,O. Lancaster purchased two Eskimo dolls from Miss L.E. Abbott for their grandchildren. One of the dolls was shown to one of the teachers. The teacher was so delighted so also purchased one and last Saturday night Mr, & Mrs, Lancaster called to pick one up for her, Christmas meeting The Christmas meeting of the Lucan Women's Institute will be held on Tuesday, December 9th. Members are asked to note change of date. Roll call will be "In 1976 I resolve . . ." Each member is to bring a contribution to the program, a white gift for the "Teen Girls Home" for Mrs. Santa to present. The meeting will be held in the Masonic Hall beginning with a pot-luck lun- cheon at 12 noon. Mrs. Mable Hockey spent Weekend at her sons (Wayne Hockey) family cabin at. Little Falls. The weather was lovely. Mrs. Kathleen Fisher spent Sunday with her son Mr. & Mrs. Harold Fisher and family of London. They celebrated Mrs. Fisher's father Mr, Oarfield t Stanlake's 80th birhday. Mr. & Mrs. Bev Hirtzel and boys of Lucan were Sunday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Don Hirtzel of Parkhill, Mr. Ed Cunningham of London entertained his parents Mr. & Mrs. Arnold Cunningham of Lucan to a surprise dinner and dance on Saturday night at the Plumbers Hall, The occasion was to celebrate Mr. & Mrs. Call- ningtons eleventh anniversary. 150 guests were present to help the occasion be a happy one. Davis Home Hardware an- nounced their winners to the Colouring contest judged by Mrs. Muriel Cobleigh. In the 8-12 age group4, Kittie Lechie and Dale McNaughton each received $8.00 vouchers. The winners in the 4-7 group was Stephanie Hayter and Dennis Payne who also received vouchers. The first Bantam House league game was between the Sabres and the Hawks. The final score was 5-1 for the Sabres. The Sabre goals were scored by Colen Wildfong with one, John Toondes with a pair and also singles by Jim Hardie and Marty VanPrate. Sunshine group enioys euchre • Members of the Sunshine Group of the Senior Citizens Club enjoyed playing euchre at their meeting on Thursday afternoon with Margaret Allen winning High Lady's score; Benny Kelly, High men's, Amelia Armitage, low ladies' and Mary Hodgson, playing a man's card won Low men's. The Busy Buddies Group continued their liquidembroidery quilt blocks. During the business meeting, chaired by president Muriel Cobleigh, members were reminded of the entertainment at the Shillelagh by the Molly Maguires on Tuesday, December 10th at 2 p.m. For transportation phone 227-4057 or 227-4916. Flowers were to be sent to W.S. Hebden who is in hospital for surgery. Readings were given by Olga Bond "Darvin's Mistake" and Muriel Cobleigh for Teenie Salter "Smile Awhile". The lone goal getter for the Hawks was Drew Arzo. The second game was between the Aces and the Eagles. The Aces downed the Eagles 9-4. Hat tricks by Brent Strainton, Bob Ross and Dave Cook were scored for the Aces. The Eagle goal getters were Alan Grace with a pair and singles by Gary Danner and Paul Vanderborne.The first Pee Wee House League game was between the Barons and the Thunderbirds. The Barons defeated their opposition 3-1. The Baron goal scorers were Rob Black, Chris Sockett and Chuck Dickey. The lone scorer for the Two members of GYPSWY took part in the service at Lucan United Church Sunday morning. Janice Walker read the Old Testament Lesson and Bev Madden the one from the New Testament. Jeannie Jones contributed much to set the mood for worship with her lively solo "In This Quiet Hour". Speaking from Matthew 3 Rev. Madden told his congregation that God was such a part of the life of John the Baptist that his preaching was very effective with people of his country flocking to hear his message of Thunderbirds was J, Hominsky. The second Pee Wee H.L, game was between the Lions and the Bombers, The Lions defeated the Bombers 4-2, The scorers for the Lions were Daren McFalls with a pair and singles by Darell Hodgins and Francis Gieson, The Bombers goals were by Brian Currah with a pair, In the third Pee Wee H.L. game the Blazers swamped the Raiders 5-0. The goal getters for the Blazers were kobt. Simmons with a pair and singles by Jeff Nevin, Scott Gilbs and Dave Jones. The shutout went to Terry Van Russell. protest and proclamation. White Gift Sunday will be observed next Sunday with all members of the Church School sharing in the service. A speaker will be present from Muncey Indian Reservation to receive our gifts, and the Junior Choir will be singing. Friday, commencing at 7:30 the annual Snowflake Bazaar will be held. Members and friends are asked to take articles to the church Thursday evening bet- ween 7 and 9 p.m. and baking before 7 p.m. on Friday All usual booths will be in operation and child-care will be provided. Members of the Lucan United Church Women enjoyed a pot luck supper at their November Meeting on Tuesday evening. Brewster continued his sermon speaking about receiving from God, TOPS group • show fashions After a short meeting ten members travelled to the home of Marg Zupancic where a fashion show was put on by Marg. A few volunteers were recruited to model the fashions after which everyone was invited to try on the fashions to see how they looked in them. Saturday Comrade J.W. Smith, myself and our ladies were in- vited to Branch 388, Royal Canadian Legion, Wyoming for the St. Andrew's Day ob- servances. Had a great time however was a little ap- prehensive when they served the haggis — surprising enough I found it to be to my liking. Now for the readers who don't know too much about St„ Andrew here is a little background. St. Andrew was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus — he was the son of a fisherman, He travelled and preached in Asia Minor and Greece. He was put to death at Patras in Greece on a cross shaped like the letter X. Andrew is the Patron Saint of Scotland, Greece and Russia. He did not visit Scotland but his bones were taken there, and pilgrims went to see them at a place now called St. Andrew's. Later a king of the Scots chose the cross of St. Andrew to be his flag, and, in time, it became the flag of Scotland. Participants in Branch 540's Annual Cheque draw are reminded the big draw takes place at the Legion Hall between the hours of 8 p.m, and 11 p.m. Wednesday December 17th in conjunction with a Wine and Cheese Party — Entertainment will also be laid on — Two Barber Shop quartets — All from good old Lucan — The Modified Melodies and the Harmony Hi Hopes. Don't forget to remind mum or dad to get that form filled out which was en- closed with a recent Branch bulletin, the receipt of these completed forms is the only way Santa will know you will be in attendance and be able to bring f,010, gift. General meeting of Branch 540 will be held in the Legion Hall on Wednesday, December 10th commencing at 8:30 p.m. Sharp — Please make it a point to be in attendance.
