The "friend" is otilw. (Ontario Housing Rehabilitation Program), a special scheme under the Ministry of Housing to help certain families improve their .homes. Grand Bend council, which discussed joining OHRP at the last regular meeting, may send delegates to Chatham December 10, to a ttend ,a special seminar on the loan-grant program, Through OHRP, Grand Bend is eligible for $29,000 a year until. 1977 to set up a home im- provement fund, providing the money isn't transferred to other accounts, Reeve Sharen says the village would act as a "junior mortgage company" through OHRP, doling out money at varying rates of interest to applicants according to their need and financial capabilities. "It's a way to help the older People, " he says, pointing out the money can be applied to some costs incurred by the new sewer system. O.H.R.P. may cut sewer bill Grand Bend council went in camera to discuss im- plementation of wage ad- justments for town employees at Monday's regular council meeting. According to preliminary budgets tabled at last council meeting, the clerkttreasurer, secretary and town foreman will receive raises of $1500,$1,000 and $1,000 respectively over the next 12 months. The salary increases include new sick leave and group in- Council in Camera surance benefits for the three employees. At last week's meeting Reeve Bob Sharen declared a conflict of interest and absented himself from council during discussion of the group insurance plan. The plan was presented by Bill Thomas, Crown Life Agent and associate of Share,n Realty, Oxta'nd 'Bend. Before the closed session, council discussed tentative plans for renovations to public washrooms, and a proposed trip less according to Chuck McMurray, Ministry of Housing supervisor for the program in Southwestern Ontario. He says the money generally goes towards interior plumbing, electrical or heating work and exterior painting repairs that are not cosmetic. According to McMurray OHRP works like this: Part of the loan is forgivable. The maximum loan is $7,500 per family. Of that, amount $4,000 is grant and the remainder is repaid to the municipality at an interest rate geared to the ap- plicant's income. The interest rate is figured on a sliding scale ranging from zero to eight percent. A family with an income below $3,000 pays no interest on a repayable loan; a family earning over $8,000 pays the maximum eight percent. OHRP is a special provincial scheme to help low income families improve their homes. In other business, council passed a motion to have the clerk draw up anew five year, lease to rent the village hall from the Ontario government.
