Bob Oke came up with a
shutout last Thursday to lead the
Algoma Tire team to a 13-0
victory over the Mclean-
Passrnore team in recreational
hockey,
In other ree hockey action, the
Ottawas defeated Creditor) in
Crediton's first outing 6-0 and the
Guess Who's snuck by Les Pines
5-4-
Dale Skinner led the Algoma
team in their rout with a hat trick
and three assists for a six point
evening along with Tony
McDonald who came up with four
goals. Other scorers were Bob
Jones, Jim Jordan, Patti Ker-
slake, Pete McFalls with two and
Ed Kerslake,
Bill Consitt led the Ottawas to
their victory with two goals over
a Crediton team who made their
entry into the league this past
week.
Crediton was one of the two
teams that entered the league
after enough interest was shown
to warrant the addition of two
new teams. The Guess Whos
joined a week earlier,
Bob Brand kept the Creditor)
The Precious Blood Screaming
Eagles registered their second
victory in a row by sneaking past
a team assembled by the Times-
Advocate staff, 23-22 in exhibition
basketball on Monday at Exeter
Public School.
The Eagles led by Doug
Brooks, were hard pressed by the
T-A team but managed to pull off
the victory with several last
minute baskets.
The T-A played the whole game
with only five players, one of
whom had to take repeated
breaks in order to photograph the
game. Les, "Bones" Webb was
the high scorer for the T-A,
followed by center Dick
Jongkind,
The Eagles, who are playing
the exhibition ball in order to
prepare for a tournament, had
previously defeated team of
Teachers and Parents.
The first half ended in a 9-9 tie,
with both teams exhibiting strong
defence and an inability to sink
the ball. It was the second half
that opened up the game with
both teams trading baskets in end
to end rushes.
The initial part of the game saw
the T-A team being hemmed in
and despite the low score, the All
Stars were shooting consistently
and forcing the flow of the game,
It was not until near the end of
the half that the T-A could start to
score, having trailed at one point
9-3.
Foul shots hart the T-A team as
well as their inability to keep up
to the faster All Stars. At one
point, Brooks was bowled over by
Fred Youngs as he charged up
court. Brooks was given four foul
shots after referee Jim McKinlay
conferred with he and Youngs on
the- number that should be
allowed, He had a chance to wrap
up the game but missed on three
of the four attempts from the line.
Rough play constituted the
backbone of the T-A offence,
while the Allstars relied on their
speed and ability to run circles:
around the T-A team.
Referee McKinlay came into
some criticism, particularly
from Jeff Berendsen, who
pointed out the fact that jump
balls often sailed qff in the
direction of the T-A players.
Brooks also objected to the T-A
cheerleaders being given two
points for what he called
"squawking", T-A player Les
Webb was quick to remind
Brooks that the same two
cheerleaders, Sandra Rowe and
Darquise Webb, lost two points in
the final minute for littering.
Possibly the best comment that
sums up the whole spirit of the
game came from Kathy Giffin,
who said "the guy in the green
muscle shirt (Don Stephen) is
kind of cute."
The T-A has insisted on a
rematch that will be held
December 18. "This time we
expect to win said "Cutey"
Stephen."
