The annual Christmas Meeting
of Hensall United Church`Women
took place at the Hensall United
Church December 1.Ladies from
Chiselhurst were guests for the
evening.
The president, Shirley
McAllister, welcomed the ladies
and set the tone of the meeting by
reading a poem, "Sounds of
Christmas" Jessie McAllister,
Mae Rowe and Pearl Erratt
conducted the devotional
demonstrating by banners and
quotations, "Gifts from Christ".
Rest, the Keys of the Kingdom,
Power over Evil Spirits, Living
Water, Bread of Heaven, Eternal
Life and Peace are all gifts from
Christ that we enjoyas Christians.
Jessie McAllister who took the
chair, read a poem at the
beginning of her devotion, "The
Christmas Symbol" and Mae
Rowe concluded this part with
another poem, "The Star".
Pianist for the devotional was
Dorothy Mickle.
For the program, two piano
selections were given by Karen
McAllister. Mrs, Marilyn
Zivkovic of Exeter sang "Jesu
Bambino" and "0 Holy Night'
accompanied on the piano by
Helen Goddard, Anita Cook told
the story "The Legend of the
Creche".
Courtesy remarks were given
by Kaye Elder, and Karen and
Mrs. Zivkovic were presented
with gifts. The programme
chairman was Helen Scane.
Before closing, Pat Venner
called on all the past presidents
since the United Church was
formed in 1925 and presented.
them with scrolls to com-
memorate their services. They
were Mrs. Mark Drysdale for
1934-7. Mrs, Geo. Armstrong 1955-
9 and Mrs. Earle Rowe 10604.

Mrs. Pearl Erratt, Supply
Committee, reported 32 boxes
sent out during the year. Anne
Brock reported that the group
had catered to 14 social functions.
Helen Scane reported for
Friendship and Visitation that 128
visits had been made, 93 gifts
given and 117 cards sent.

to new owner
Thomas Lavender who has
operated a garage in the village
for many years has sold his
business to John Bieshisen of
Forest, who has moved to the
village taking immediate
possession. Mr, & Mrs. Lavender
have taken up residence in
Exeter.
Mrs. Mabel Gilfillan of Exeter
visited over the weekend with her
brother and sister-in-law Mr. &
Mrs. Roy MacDonald.
Hensall livestock sales
Supply consisted mainly of
heifers and steers. Demand was
active and prices were up. Fat
cattle; heifers, $44.75-$49.00,
steers, $45.00-$51.60, feeder cattle
$23.00-$44.50, Pigs; weinlings
$57.00-$62.00, chunks $65.00-
$82.50.

followed by prayer by Mrs. Bert
Thompson.
Mrs. Rochus Faber was in
charge of the devotional and gave
an interesting narration on
"Bethlehem and the Birth of the
Baby Lord Jesus".
Mrs. Bert Thompson led
prayer. A vocal duet, "May the
Pearl Gates Open" was sung by
Mrs. Edith Bell and Mrs.
Malcolm Dougall. The devotional
was concluded by a reading by
Mrs. Faber.
The president Mrs. Harvey
Hyde took charge of the business
opening with a poem, "Who Is My
Neighbour."

President Mrs. Clarence
Volland presided for the meeting
of the Ladies' Aid of Carmel
Presbyterian Church Monday
evening. Following a Christmas
meditation it was decided to pack
boxes for the shut-ins December
17 at the church. A donation was
voted to the choir.
It was announced that a can-
dlelight service will be held for
the three congregations on the
evening of December 21.

December 14,

Thieves enter
local store
Ron and Jean Wareing's 5 cents
to $1 store was broken into over
the weekend. The entry was
made through a small window at
the rear of the store, A small

Mrs. Daisy Ivey celebrated her
88th birthday last Saturday at the
residence of Mr. & Mrs. Gordon
Schwalm. Open House was held
and birthday cake was served to
all attending.

The salesgirl brought out a

diamonds," she said, placing

diamond?" the young man asked.
The salesgirl smiled sweetly

4-H members

The sixth meeting of the
Hensall 4-H Clubs, the Kneeded 7
and Dough-doe's, was held at the
Hensall United Church
November 19.
Ten girls answered to the roll
call, "The supper dish you made
with bread as a main
ingredient".
The leaders demonstrated how
to make Chelsea buns and
Hungarian Bubble Ring.
The seventh meeting was held
Tuesday evening. Thirteen girls
answered the roll call "Name a
use for bread other than for toast
or sandwiches."

are tiny yeast cakes popular in
Holland. Plans were made for
Achievement day on January 410
and plans were also finalized for
a supper party for the closing
meeting.
