IRVIN RADER The Family and Consumer Affairs group was in charge of the November meeting of Dash- wood Women's Institute with Mrs. Stuart Wolfe convener. The roll call was answered by 17 members, "A rule you would give Your teenager on money management," There was also a visitor. Mrs. Irvin Rader discussed the motto, "It is not enough to know the cost; be sure the quality is not lost," Guest speaker, Mrs. Ernest Miller had a wonderful display of candles she had made. She discussed the art of candle making from early civilization, All supplies necessary for this craft were on display and she described the various articles to the ladies. Finishing a candle from the mold and dripping were demonstrated. President, Mrs. Ray Rader, dealt with the business. It was decided to donate a turkey for the best decorated front door in Dashwood for Christmas, Several donations were made to Dash- wood Men's club for the Christmas party, War Memorial Hospital, Children's Aid and Brother Bob Mittleholtz. The piano will also be tuned. The Institute will entertain members and their husband or a friend at a Christmas dinner. Mrs. Gordon Bender, District Director, reported on the Con- vention at St. Thomas and also the Board meeting in Hensall. TEMPLEMAN STAFFA The final meeting of the Staffa Nifty Needlers was held on Saturday November 3 at the home of the asistant leader, Mrs. Doris Jeffery. The meeting opened with the 4- H pledge and secretary's report. Ten girls answered the roll call by showing their "Free Choice" articles and telling their favourite stitch. Mrs. Joyce Vivian ex- plained achievement Day procedures. She also discussed how to judge needlework. She presented four wall hangings and the members then judged these on general appearance, work- manship and design. Mary Jane Teriiplernan told the members how she judged the wall hangings and how to give reasons for her choices. The meeting was then adjourned. Personals Visiting on the weekend at the J. Templeman home were, Darlene Templeman, Waterloo; Geraldine Templeman, Strat- ford; Elizabeth Templeman and Geralyn Kemp, Centralia College. Mr. & Mrs. Jim Cross and Mr, & Mrs. Jack White, London visited on the weekend with their parents, Mr. & Mrs. Leslie Miller. Mr. & Mrs. Jim Richard and boys, Bowmanville, visited for a few days with Alvin and Bill Worden. Nancy Templeman visited on the weekend with Margaret Bowman Fullarton. Mrs. Bruce Eaton and family were in Arthur on Sunday, where Mrs. Eaton was guest speaker at the United Church. Mr. & Mrs. Rob Templeman were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. & Mrs. Hap Swatridge and Jill, Wingharn, Staffa Nifty Needlers 4-H Homemaking girls met Saturday morning at the home of their leader, Mrs. George Vivian, when they reviewed their skit and made final plans for Achievement Day at Kirkton on Saturday. Mr, & Mrs. Jack Cudmore, Grand Bend accompanied by Mrs. George Tieman and Mrs. Albert Rader, Mr. & Mrs, Lorne Kleinstiver and Mr. & Mrs. Norman Scott, Stratford attended the funeral of the late Percy Kleinstiver, Chicago, Illinois, last week. Mrs. Earl Keller and Mrs. Ray Rader attended the Royal Winter Fair for the 4-H and the Leaders' breakfast last week. Mr. & Mrs. Dave Rader spent the weekend at Manitoulin Island with Mr. & Mrs. Allan Eagleson and family also visiting with Irwin Eagleson and Mr. & Mrs. Eric Eagleson, Marshall and Marianne. Mr. & Mrs. George Tieman and Mr. & Mrs. Hubert Miller spent the weekend at Waterdown with Mr. & Mrs, Russel Hoperoft and attended the Royal Winter Fair on Saturday. A successful bazaar was held Thursday evening at St. Mary's Church, Brinsley with a good crowd attending. Hideaway Now — for Christmas By MISS ELLA MORLOCK CREDITON Tuesday evening the youth group of Zion United Church, Live Love Unlimited, conducted a successful bake sale and a parent-teen forum. Under the guidance of Rev. & Mrs. Bruce Pierce two impromptu skits were performed. Roles were reversed. A teenager took the part of a parent, a parent that of a teenager. Questions were collected from the group, then offered by Michael Pierce, president, for free discussion. Some of the questions were: Do I as a teenager have the right to decide to what places I go? Do parents have a right to know where the teenager is going and when he will be home? Do teenagers have a right to enter into a conversation adults are engaged in? Edgar Cudmore made a plea for the formation of a quiz team to take part in the Youth for Christ Scripture memorization contest. Lunch was served under the direction of Tammy Schenk and Diane Wilds. Painting co mpleted The painting of the exterior trim of Zion United Church has been completed, except for the tower which requires special scaffolding for its finishing. Roy Finkbeiner, caretaker, Gordon Morlock and Emerson Wein removed from the tower and from behind the louvered ven- tilators of the attic sixteen plastic cement bags of refuse brought there by birds. The men also repaired the bell which has swung in the tower since 1896. 4-H leaders Mrs. Maxine Hyde, Huron Park, was with the group of 4-H leaders that went to the Royal Winter Fair last Monday and Tuesday. John Beaton administered the rites of baptism to Jennifer Dawn, daughter of Mr, & Mrs. Wesley Hodgson during the service in the United Church Sunday morning. The contents of the home of Mrs. Fred Howe were sold by auction on Saturday afternoon, The house and property had been previously purchased by Tom Tomes, local merchant, who is building a new house on the property. Mrs. Howe and son Alex are now residents 'of Huronview. We are sorry to lose them from the community. Mrs. Chas McKinnon, Char- maine McKinnon and Mike Somerton of Scarborough were visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Borden Smyth, Bruce and Brenda Gaynor. All attended the funeral of the ladies' uncle, the late Thomas Snow in London. Following the service they were guests with their aunts and un- cles, Mr. & Mrs. James Warrack, Winnipeg, and Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Alderson at the latter's Mr. & Mrs. Case and their two children have moved from Toronto to the home they pur- chased from Laurence Becker, the home formerly occupied by the Whitneys. Allen Pfaff has returned home from St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Mrs. Elva Moon, London, called on friends in the area Sunday. The chairs purchased for the Zion United Church Sunday School have arrived. Sharon Masse, Dashwood, has been engaged to work in the Township Office assisting Clerk- Treasurer Wilmar Wein, along with Mrs. Don Baker, Shipka. Miss Nola Faist is also employed part time. Visiting at the home of Mr. & By MRS, ROBERT LAING CROMARTY Mrs. Eldon Allen presided over the November meeting of the Marian Ritchie Evening Auxiliary on Tuesday night. The meeting opened with, 0 God Our Help in Ages Past, followed by prayer. Mrs, Allen gave a reading on Remembrance and Mrs. Carter Kerslake read the scripture. The roll call was answered with a verse on Peace. Eight cards and 15 visits to shut- ins were recorded. The treasurer, Mrs. Lorne Elliott reported that the group had met its allocation for this year. `For the topic, Mrs. Larry Gardiner read an article, the Spirit of Christmas. Jean Carey had the study book on the role of missionaries in China, theWest Indies, and Nigeria. She said we must be kind and concerned, and helpful, but they must be allowed to work out their differences in their own way. We must listen to the people in places such as the West Indies, asking what assistance they want, not what we think should be good for them. Mrs. Allan Finkbeiner are Mrs. Eleanor Winthrop, Kelwood, Manitoba, and Mrs. Marion Gower, Winnipeg, sister and sister-in-law of Mrs. Finkbeiner. They live in an area where during the summer crops could not be harvested because of floods. The pleasant Indian Summer weather of November made it possible to harvest enought hay for their cattle. Michelle Lynn Eyre, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Douglas Eyre, Shedden, and Pamela Louise Splane, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Splane, London, were baptized by the Rev. Wilfred Jarvis during the church service on Sunday. Following the service, a family gathering was held at the home of the babies' grand- parents, Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Scott. Mr. & Mrs. Bill Chessell and Brian, Varna, visited Sunday evening with Mr. & Mrs. Robert Laing. Mr. & Mrs. Charles Douglas, spent Friday at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto where their son, George, was showinglhis,charolois calf in the Queen's Guineas Class. supervisor of Huron County home economists, asked Mrs. Glenn Hodgins to make the speech of thanks at the Tuesday morning breakfast attended by 340 4-H leaders. On behalf of the group, Mrs. Hodgins thanked the Hon, Gordon Bennett, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food, for making possible for them the profitable and enjoyable visit to the fair. Reg Finkbeiner was one of the adults who accompanied two classes of Exeter Public School to the Royal Winter Fair Wed- nesday. The children devoted their time to the farm animals they are currently studying in classroom lessons. Mrs. Hugo Schenk spent last week with her son Edward in Mississauga. Mr, & Mrs. Sylvester Wuerth have returned home after spending some time with their daughter Mrs. Doris Baxter of Lefroy, Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Hey were in Toronto last week visiting friends and Mrs. Hey's brother. With Mr. & Mrs. Douglas Gill for the weekend were their daughter and her family, Mr. & Mrs. Bill Welch and boys, from near Brantford. Carol Ann Smith is a patient at War Memorial Children's Hospital, Mr. & Mrs, Wayne Glanville and family have moved into their new home on Concession 5.
