Fifty years of union marked
at Hensall United Church service
Methodist Parsonage and Church
Shed were sold to pay off debts,
the former being bought by Mr.
William Sheppard and the latter
going to General Coach in 1954.
Rev, Mr. Sinclair was the first
United Church Minister.
On January 24, 1962, further
union took place when the Huron
Women's Missionary Society and
The Women's Auxiliary became
the Huron U.C. Women. Two
more brides represented this
Union, Mrs. Sadie Hoy and Mrs.
Dorothy Parker.
In 1968, the Evangelical United
Brethren came into the Union.
Whether the U,C, continues or
dies it hopes to remain an ef-
fective witness for the needs of
the people. After singing, "Will
your Anchor hold in the Storms of
Life?"-the congregation enjoyed
a pot luck luncheon and followed
by the film "Heritage for the
Future".
Mrs. Gerald Ford of Hanover
visited Mrs. Etta Mae Ford.
The Church service was con-
ducted by Rev. Donald Beck
accompanied at the piano by
Louise Mitchell.
On Monday the Ladies' of the
Reformed Church in Exeter
entertained the residents. Those
assisting were Dian Neevel,
Helen „Toonstra, Ann Wynja,
Tresa Wynja, Bonnie Vallenga B,
Dykstra, Ann Binnendyk, Gerry
VanSteeg, Margaret De Vries

The CPT committee of the
I.O.O.F. and Rebekah Lodges
held a most successful euchre
party in the Lodge Hall on
Thursday. There were twelve
tables playing euchre with the
following prize winners; ladies'
high, Mrs. Percy Campbell;
ladies consolation; Mrs. Clarence
Volland; men's high, Alex
McBeath; men's consolation, Al
Hoggarth. Draws were made and
the winners were Alex McBeath
and Ernie Chipchase. Refresh-
ments were served,
brother-in-law and sister Mr. &
Mrs, Ed Fink at Point Clarke,
Rev. Wilfred Jarvis B.A.B.D.
conducted the service in Carmel
Church on Sunday. Mrs. Malcolm
Dougall presided at the organ.
The Sacrament of Holy Com-

Hensall United Church Women
will be held on Monday,
December 1 at 8:00 p.m, when
Chiselhurst will be guests. The
soloist will be Mrs. Marilyn
Zivkovic .
United Church Young People
The young people of the United
Church met on Sunday evening,
November 16 and discussed a
calendar of events, The next
meeting will be a card party on
December 7 at 7:30 p.m. All
young people welcome,

Seaforth District High School
showed pictures of a trip that he
and some students from the
school had taken while traveling
in Spain, He was introduced by
Mary Connolly who was in charge
of the program and Mildred
Chalmers thanked him and
presented him with a gift,
The roll call was answered by
naming a member of the United
Nations, Mildred Chalmers gave
a humorous reading. and Mattie
McGregor gave current events,
Heather and Mellisa Moffat
entertained with several tap
dance numbers. The area
convention report was given by
Frances Kinsman and Grace
Drummond. The treasurers
report was given by Phyllis
Parsons and the Sunshine report
by Dorothy Bell.
Help will be given to a needy
family. A euchre will be held in
January and a bake sale
December 13 at 2:30 in Hensall,
Members again are ordering
federated news,
Frances Kinsman the president
chaired the business portion of
the meeting and opened the
meeting with a Remembrance
Day reading and gave courtesy
remarks,
Mildred Chalmers conducted a
contest. Mattie McGregor and
Dorothy Bell served lunch.
Members will go bowling on
November 30 at 2:00 p.m.
followed by a pot luck supper at
Brucefield Church.

A special service of Witness
celebrating Fifty Years of Union
was held in Hensall United
Church on Sunday with Rev. Don
Beck officiating. The Order of
Service was one used fifty years
ago and the choir which was
composed almost entirely of
older people, sang the Anthem,
"0 that will be, Glory for me"
with Mrs. John Turkheim at the
organ.
At the conclusion of the
Doxology the celebration began.
In this particular charge, a union
had taken place in Chiselhurst in
1914 between Zion Episcopal,
Methodist Church and the
Chiselhurst Presbyterian Church
following the illness in 1913 of the
Rev. Shaw of the Presbyterian
Church. The present United
Church is the former Methodist
Church.
Church Union discussions
started in 1923 by the Methodist
and Presbyterian Churches. in
Hensall and on January 6, 1925 a
heated meeting was held for the
membership of. both
congregations, which resulted in
a secret ballot, to take place in
the Church, at specified times, up
to and including, January 20.
Scrutineers for anti-union were
Mr. Peter Moir, J. Craig and
Miss Helen Smith; for union were
Mr. J.Rowcliffe, C.A. McDonnell
and C. Cook. Results: for union
189, against 175, majority 14,
Three C's bowl
in Grand Bend
Monday, November 24th the
3C's club made up four teams and
bowled three games at the
Village Inn, Grand Bend. Ladies'
high score, Pearl James; ladies'
consolation, Mary Ellen
Ferguson. Men's high score,
Dave Ferguson; men's con-
solation, John Templeton. For
the next gathering the group
decided to join forces with the
three congregations and take
their families to participate in the
candle light service being held in
Carmel Church, Hensall, Sunday,
December 21.
The WMS and Ladies Aid of
Carmel Church will meet on
December 1 at 8 p.m.

her birthday on the weekend

Union of the Congregational,
Methodist and Presbyterian
Church was consummated at the
Mutual Street Arena. Toronto,
8,000 people being present. All
these local discussions were
enacted out during the present
Service.
While singing the hymn "The
Church's one Foundation" three
brides entered, Mrs. Kathy Mann
representing the Congregational
Church, Mrs. Rose Harris
representing the Presbyterian
Church and Mrs. Verna Hay the
Methodist Church. Together they
represented the new United
Church of Canada.
On July 13, 1925 the Methodist
Church, upset over the still
separate Presbyterian services,
suggested that Union services be
held at both, churches; services
were held then in the morning in
one church and in the evening in
the other. Subsequently a the
