Exeter Minor Hockey at a glance: the week
Not too many players or in-
dividuals win championships in
their first year of competition,
but two Exeter citizens have done
just that in the Exeter Tennis
Club's tournament, as Steve
Pearce and Mrs. Audrey Pooley
both won their respective division
championships.
Mrs, Pooley of Exeter plays
tennis to keep in shape and not so
much for the competition she
says, but even though she is more
interested in the conditioning, she

Grand Bild and Exeter. The
competitii aspect of the game
was secddary, she said. Mrs,
Pooley ispresently employed as
a nurse at the South Huron
Hospital

Doug Brooks and Don Bell both
picked up a goal each and Exeter
had a four goal lead with less then
five minutes gone. Ilderton got
their second goal with less than
two minutes to go in the period.
It was Bogart and Mercer
again at the beginning of the
third. Mercer got his hat trick
when Bogart fed him a pass that
he put in with half a minute gone.
With 2:48 left Bogart and Dave
Atthill had coinciding minor
penalties but the Ilderton team
was unable to take advantage of
the situation because of good
skating from Mercer, Larry
Dawson, and Wayne Parsons.
Ilderton outshot Exeter twenty-
five to twenty-one, and took four
of the seven minors called during
the game.

Exeter teams won four, lost two
and tied two,
Both Atom teams tied their
games with two different op-
ponents. Strathroy and Exeter
battled to a 1-1 tie Sunday at the
Arena,
1301 Hunter opened the scoring
for Strathroy only to have the
game tied up by Brent Atthill who
scored for Exeter, Both goals
came in the first period.
A goal by John Kernick in the,
third period gave the Exeter
Atoms a tie when they played in
St, Mary's on Saturday.
St. Mary's took a three goal
lead in the first period on
markers from Danny Melia'',
Chris Williams and Steve Coiling.
Exeter came back in the second
with goals from Kernick, Scott
Brintnell and Chris VanGerwen,
St, Mary's again took the lead on
a goal, by Mike Tiernan before
Kernickscored his second of the
game late in the third frame.
Pee Wee "A"
The Pee Wee "A" team snuck
by the St. Mary's team 4-3
Saturday, after defeating the
Belmont team 9-0 on Wednesday.
St. Mary's opened the scoring
on a goal by Kevin Mitchell.
Exeter tied it late in the period
when Bill Glover got the first of
his, two goals in the game.
Exeter went briefly into the
lead in the early goings of the
second period when Rick Lin-
denfield took a pass from Kevin
Easterbrookand Dave Bell to beat
St. Mary's goalie Jeff Sedley. The
lead was shortlived, however, as
St. Mary's scored two goals, one
by Perry Wilson and one by John
Queenan to pull ahead at the end
of the second,
Two late goals gave Exeter
their victory, Dave Bell banged
one in at 8:29 followed by the
game winner from Glover at 9:33,
Earlier in the week the Pee
MEN'S CHAMP — Gord Beuten-
miller,

playing tennis for one year. He
got into the game because Steve
is also active in hockey, baseball,
bowling and "all kinds" of other
sports,.he said. He plans to con-
tinue his tennis career next year.
