dido, California, celebrated their 60th. wedding anniversary recently.
The couple farmed in the Lucan area the first year of their marriage
before moving to Winnipeg and thence to Detroit. Since 1950 they
have resided in California, They have two daughters, Mrs. Howard
Morley of Hazel Park, Mich., and Mrs. Clarence Lynch of Rochester,
Mich, There are also three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Neil repeated their wedding vows at First Christian
Church, Escondido, before 350 guests. A reception followed in the
church's fellowship hall, Mr. Neil is a brother of Mrs. Hubert Jones of
Exeter.

BY THE CORPORATION OF THE
TOWNSHIP OF USBORNE TO
DISPENSE WITH A VOTE OF THE
E LECTORS
Take notice that,
1. The Council of the Corporation of the Township of
Usborne intends to apply to the Ontario Municipal Board
for approval of the joint purchase with the Township of
Blanshard, of lands in Part Lot 7, South East Boundary
Concession of the Township of Usborne, for the purpose of
procuring therefrom stone or gravel for highway or other
purposes, at a total estimated cost of $100,000.00, of
which it is estimated that $50,000.00 shall be the share of
the Township of Usborne anik whereof the amount of
$40,000.00 shall be raised by the sale of debentures
payable out of the general rate over a period not
exceeding ten years.
2. Application will be made to the Ontario Municipal Board
for an order to dispense with the assent of the electors to
the purchase of the said lands. Any ratepayer may within
ten days after publication of this notice, send by post
prepaid or delivered to the Clerk of the Township of
Usborne at the address given below, a notice in writing
stating his objection to such approval, and the grounds of
such objection.
3. The Ontario Municipal Board may order, pursuant to the
Statutes, that the assent of the electors shall not be
required and may approve the said land purchase, but for
doing so, it may appoint a time and plate for a public
hearing when any objection will be considered.

Poems presented at meeting
The Lucan Novice Hockey
team came home with high
spirits on Sunday night after their
third game in Belmont against
Dorchester, The Lucan boys won
2-1. With only a few seconds to go
the opposition took advantage of
a penalty and pulled their goalie
to provide six attackers against
the Lucan boys with only four.
The Lucan team held them off.
The goal getters for Lucan were
Tim Shipley and Brent Ban-
nerman.
Friday night the Lucan Pee
Wee's played host to the Dor-
chester team. Both teams fought
a hard battle with the Lucan
team leading right until the end.
With one second remaining the
Dorchester team scored and tied
the game 3-3. The Lucan Pee Wee
goals were scored by Shawn
Porter with a pair and a single
sizzler by Brad De Graw.
Lucan Bantams played host to
Dorchester on Friday night. The
Bantams never,gave up with a3-1
loss to their opposition. The only
goal getter for Lucan was
defenceman Jim Hayter.
In Lucan Friday evening the
Dorchester team were guests of
the Lucan Midgets. The Lucan
boys were leading the game 3-2
with only two minutes to go when
the Dorchester team came back
with a goal tieing it up 3-3. The
Lucan goal scorers were Rich
Freeman, Martin Clarke and
Kevin Gilmour.
Wednesday evening the Lucan
Jr. D. played an exhibition game
against Stratford.
The Stratford team are in a
higher bracket than Lucan so
Lucan deserves congratulations
for doing as well as they did.
Stratford beat them 9-5. The
Lucan Irish goal getters were a
pair by Ed Robb and singles by
Jim Maguire, Wayne Hodgins
and Ron Funston.
Saturday, Lucan Irish Jr. D.
were hosted by the Belmont team
in Belmont. The boys were trying
too hard for a win and ended up
coming home with a loss of 6-4.
The Lucan Irish were presented
goals by Ed Robb with a pair and
singles by Murray Connolly and
Gary Kerr.
Tuesday the Cyclones played
an exhibition game against
Mitchell. The Cyclones had a
good lead but penalties resulted
in the Mitchell team catching up
and tieing the game 5-5.
With some new players trying
hard in their new positions the
boys had trouble making their
passes connect. The Lucan goals
were socked in by Tom Hodgins,
Bob Evans, Denis Burt, Paul
Hominick, Ron Lindenfield and
Larry Haugh.
Sunday, the Watford team
hosted the Lucan Cyclones. The
Cyclones had to play a hard game
to keep up with the experienced
Watford team. The final score
was 8-8, Excellent goal keeping
by Don Stewart • prevented
Watford from scoring further
goals. The Cyclone goal scorers
were Bob Evans, Steve Murley
and Dennis Burt with pairs, and
singles by Bob McDonald and
Ron Lindenfield.

Mr. Alec Butchart and Mr. &
Mrs, Wes Helleyer of Lions Head
were weekend guests with Mr. &
Mrs. Evan Butchart and family.

After two and a half weeks in
St. Joseph's Hospital Mrs. H. B.
Langford is able to be home.
Friends and relatives gathered
at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Evan
Butchart to celebrate Mr.
Butchart's birthday on Saturday
evening.
The community of Lucan sends

family and relatives of the late
Mrs. Evelyn Coughlin and the

A stolen ear being driven by
three juveniles went out of
control while being pursued and
crashed into a hydro pole, The
car, stolen in London, crashed on
Adelaide Street between con-
cessions 6 and 7.
Miss Carla Anne Parkes of
London received minor cuts and
bruises when her.car left the road
and rolled over one mile East of
the Granton road on Highway 7,
The car was demolished in the
mishap.
The car lurched out of control,
entered the ditch at the side of the
road and struck and broke off the
pole. All the occupants escaped
with only minor injuries, and
after treatment at the University
Hospital where they, were taken
by ambulance, were charged
under the Juvenile, Delinquent
Act. The car sustained $1,300 in
damages.
Constable N.A. Campbell
estimated damages in a two car
collision near here at $1,600. The
accident, which occurred on
Highway 23 at County Road 47,
involved the cars of Donald
Riddell of Granton and Lorenzo
Diciocco of London.
Two pigs which had wandered
onto Highway 23, 2 miles north of
Highway 7, were struck by a car
driven by John Armstrong. The
damage was estimated at $350.
TOPS costume
party held
Tops news
Tops meeting was in the form
of a Halloween party. Beth
Sleight and Cathy Jewell did an
excellent job of entertaining the
members in games and fun. Most
people dressed to suit the oc-
casion and a good time was had
by all.
It was noted at the meeting that
the P.R.D. convention will be
held at the Four Seasons
Sheraton Hotel in downtown
Toronto, May 13-14-15.
Kay Carter was the winner of
the incentive tree contest so she
takes home the tins of food
collected.
At the November meeting a
good attendance was recordedand
an informative discussion was
held on Tops and diets.
It was announced the next
euchre will be held November 19
at 8 p.m.

Thursday of last week.

was the wedding anniversary of
Mr. & Mrs. Millar which is on the
eleventh.
Congratulations to Barbara
Miller who was the top 4-H
member of the year in Huron
County. She won the Robert
McKinley Citizenship trophy, the
Huron Soil and Crop
Improvement Association Award
at the 28th Annual Huron County
4-H Achievement night at Central
Huron Secondary School, Friday
night. Barbara has completed 20
projects and was active on the 4-
H Youth council. She is attending
Waterloo University where she is
studying optometry.
Congratulations also go to Rob
Stewart who won the C. S.
MacNaughton trophy and also
the Canadian Canners trophy.
The sharp increase of cases of
break and enter has left the
Provincial Police detachment
here concerned about the quality
of locks and security devices in
the area.
Constable G. Barker said that
the problem is on the increase not
just in Lucan, but in the Ilderton-
Ailsa Craig areas as well.
Barker explained that "locking
systems installed years ago that
seemed adequate at the time
have now deteriorated to the
In \the bantam division of the
House League the Aces defeated
the- Eagles 9-5. The Ace goals
were scored by Brent Stainton
with 4, Bob Ross with 3, Scott
Dixon and David Cook each with
singles, The Eagle goal scorers
were Allan Grace with four and
Tim Jones with a single.
In the second bantam
houseleague division the Sabres
defeated the Hawks 9-0. John
Nevitt, Barry Mills and Colin
Wildfong all had pairs and John
Toonders and Chris Hayes scored
singles. Jim Allison received a
shut out.
The second Pee Wee house
league game was played with the
Blazers defeating the Bombers
4-0. Goals were scored by Robert
Simmons with a hat trick and
Aron Bates with one. Terry Van
Bussell received a shut out.
"Mission today
is meeting topic
The General UCW meeting
opened Monday evening with a
sing song of favourite hymns.
Mrs. W. Froats convener of
Christian and missionary
education presented a play
"Mission Today." The junior
girls taking part were, Jean and
Jane Thompson, Loys Melanson,
Tammy and Terry McRoberts,
Carolyn Lanken, Linda Pat-
terson, Anna Bates, Shiela
Jones, Jennifer De Graw and
Lori Riley.
Worship led by Mrs. Ross
McRoberts and assisted by Mrs.
John McDonald, opened with a
tribute for Remembrance Day
and continued with the service
suitable to the theme.
Members were reminded
Christian education begins at
home. Scripture from the Bible
read each morning in the school,
cannot be interpreted in any way
by the teacher. Mrs. Dave Park
presided for the business
Mrs. Weber will attend Five
Oaks next weekend. The CGIT
musical for "Cool in the Fur-
nace" was announced for
November 28 at Lucan United
Church.
The nominating committee
presented a slate of officers.
Plans for the bazaar,
December 5, were discussed, The
December meeting will be a
vesper candlelight worship,
December 9, led by the evening
unit.
McCormick Bazaar
In spite of the mail and bus
strike a large crowd attended the
McCormick Home bazaar,
November 5. Miss L. E. Abbott's
friends included Mrs, Sheridan
Revington, Mrs. John Park, Mrs,
Clarence Haskett, Mrs. Kay
Egan, Mrs, Bob Bilyea, Mrs,
Jean Hueston and Miss Kirwood,
Miss Abbott and friend had a
display of Eskimo dolls at the
bazaar, All of these dolls were
sold in less than 10 minutes,
point that they are not serving the
purpose."
He feels that residents who are
concerned about the increase in
cases of breaking and entering
should invest the few dollars
needed to improve their systems
to avoid theft. T,he little money it
would take to "update security on
a business premise or home could
save much money and in-
convenience in the future", he
said. "It's your money and
property" he added.

league game the Barons defeated
the Lions 4-2. The goal scorers
were Greg Fisher with three and
Tod Wade with one for the
Barons. The Lion goal getters

The third Pee Wee game of the
same league Thunderbirds
played Raiders, Thunderbirds
won with a 2-1 win. The Thun-
derbirds received goals from
Andrew Markus and John
Hominsky. David Orzs scored for
the Raiders.
In the Atom house league the
first game was won by the Bears
over the Wildcats. The Bear goal
scorers were Joe Haygarth with a
pair and a single by Ray Van
Geel. David Pettit of the Bears
received a shut out,
The final house league game
was between the Jets and the
Cougars. The goal ended with no
score. Goal tenders were Doug
Haskett for the Jets and David
Radcliffe for the Cougars.
During the business meeting of
the Lucan Senior Citizens,
chaired by president Muriel.
Cobleigh, the date for the
Christmas party was set for
December 17 at the Legion.
A donation was voted to holy
Trinity Anglican Church for the
use of their facilities and a vote of
thanks was tendered to Jean
Miller and her committee for a
job well-done at the party,

Cards of thanks were read from
J. Alex Young and family, the
Grose family and the Ailsa Craig
Senior Citizens Club. Flowers
were sent to Eva Allison and will
be sent to W. S. fiebden who is a
patient in St. Joseph's Hospital.
Birthday wishes were extended
to Wyn Jolliffe, Elnora Raycraft,
Christina Salter and Lon Phillips,
Vina Emery, chairperson for
the Lucan area for the Ability
Fund, (March of Dimes) an-
nounced that a sale of home
baking,-handicrafts and a penny
sale will be held in early
December to boost the con-
tributions from this area.
Assistance will be needed in this
connection as well as volunteer

Agnes Hotson read two poems
provided by Zelma Armstrong,
"Those Sacred Cows" a very
humorous piece and "A Living
Stage". President Muriel
Cobleigh also read a very ap-
propriate poem for Marjorie
Steeper, entitled "Why Wear a
Poppy"?
The Sunshine Group played
euchre with the ladies' high going
to Mary McCarthy, man's high to
Merna O'Neil, playing a man's
card, ladies lone hands to Olive
Atkinson and man's to Cecil
Robb. The Busy Buddies con-
tinued their crafts and also
looked over an upstair room with
a view to moving their crafts into
that location. Not only would it be
much quieter but would give the
Sunshine Group more space in
which to play cards and bingo.
They will meet in that room as
Salute Vegetables
Seven members of the Lucan
Women's Institute attended the
"Salute to Vegetables", a Local
leaders' short course, sponsored
by the Granton branch. They
learned interesting and different
ways of preparing several kinds
of vegetables.
Ladies of the community are
invited to the November meeting,
Wednesday, at 2 p,m. in the
Masonic Hall.
