.Local men win awards
Jack Parsons of DaabWood won
two awards at the Exeter Pony
Club's annual banquet at the
Exeter Legion Rail on Monday
night.
Parsons, the President of the
club, Won awards for the fastest
horse in the Two-year-old Fast
Pace and for the Fast Pace. He
won them both with the same
horse, G. A. Pensy Dream.
The banquet, an annual affair
for the eight year old club, was
attended by members of all the
clubs in the area. The Pony Club
organizes harness racing meets
for owners of standardbred
horses who want to compete
them.
The Fast Trot was won by Bob
McFarlane of London and his
Graham Arthur

horse Sunday Smile. Other
awards given were for Perfect
Attendance, to Ivan Webber of
Hay, and his horse Peter
Jackson. The Visiting Powder-
puff category Was won by Mrs.
Ruth Perry of London; and the
Visitor's trophy Was won by Jim
Harrison of Blyth.
In the children's group, Wendy
Ross- was the winner and Greg
Parsons the runner-up with his
horse Adios Ginger Lee. The
Visiting Children's Award was
won by Debbie Perry.
Awards are given on the
number of points earned during
the year. During the season,
racing takes place at the club's
home track 1'74 miles west of
Exeter.

About 80 kids, moms and dads
gathered at South Huron District
High School last Saturday for the
annual dinner of the Huron Minor
Soccer League.
Featured at the dinner were the
UNICEF
selling cards
Most people associate
UNICEF, the United Nations
Childrens Fund, with Halloween
and the boxes youngsters carry
with them to collect donations.
This year, however, UNICEF is
mounting another campaign
selling Christmas cards.
The cards, as well as note
paper, wrapping paper and
candles will be sold door to door
by pupils of the schools in the
area. Hensall, McCurdy,
Precious Blood and South Huron
District High School will all have
representatives out canvassing
the streets of the area. Students
at Exeter.public school will not be
"Squirts" youngest of four
groups who participated in the
league which includes young
athletes between the ages of six
and 15.
The Squirts did exceptionally
well this past season. They
finished sixth out of 111 teams
competing in the North American
Midget Cup, sponsored by the
North American Professional
Soccer Association.
The 111 that competed were
chosen from 627 applications by
teams all over North America.

the crests and trophies each

winning the local league
championship which led to their
continental competition.
