Hawks squeak
by Braves
The Exeter Hawks came up
with a three goal third period to
sneak by the Tavistock Braves 4-
3 in Junior hockey action at the
arena on Sunday night.
The Hawks, led by Captain
Brian Taylor with 2 goals, were
trailing through the whole game
until Tom Hayter popped in the
winner at 9:47 of the third period.
Tavistock opened the scoring
early in the game on a goal by
Steve Yantzi. The Hawks tied it
up with their first goal of the
game when Taylor took a pass
fromKenPinderand putit away,at
11:12. The goal came while the
Hawks were playing shorthanded
with Cam Haist cooling his heels
on a roughing call.
The second period was
scoreless, but chances were
provided to the Hawks as the
Braves picked up four penalties.
Neither team took long to find
the mark in the second period
with Tavistock getting the first
goal at 1:02 of the period. Dick
Lupton popped one past Exeter
goalie Randy Lovie after taking a
pass from Scott Leeming.
Exeter tied the game up again
on a power play with Gerald
Wiedo cashing in on a set up from
Matt Muller.
Tavistock bounced ahead again
on a goal by left winger Dwight
Steinmann assisted by Bill
Rhoads.
• It was up to Taylor, to tie the
game less than two minutes later
in another power play goal, this
time assisted by Wiedo. Just over
a minute later Don McKellar fed
Hayter the pass that provided
him with the winning goal op-
portunity. Also on a power play,
Even though the (Hawks were
able to eke out a victory Sunday,
the score should have been
greater in their favor. The

RAH looking
for new teams
The Recreational Association's
Hockey League is having its
difficulties this year. The
problems do not concern
themselves with the four
existing teams, but rather the
two teams that might exist ex-
cept for a lack of organization.
Jim McKinley, the director of
the league, said that there are
over 25 men who want to form
teams but that "no one wants the
responsibility" he said. He feels
that there is enough interest to
form a fifth team for the league
and possibly even a sixth.
He is now in the process of
trying to organize the other
teams and says that those in-
terested should "put their,money
on the table", meaning paying
the $20 application fee—and
starting to play.
Although the 15 game schedule
has already started, the fifth
team would receive a by or the 2
new teams would be given a
make-up game.
Recreation hockey action
continues tonight with Les Pines
against Newby Tire at 8:00 and
the McLean-Passmores against
the Ottawas at 9:25.
