During the Sunday morning
service in Zion United Church a
minute's silence was observed,
following which Douglas Lewis
sounded the clear notes of The
Last Post on the organ. Rev.
Bruce Pierce entitled his
message "The God of All."
"God's one gift," he said, "that
can unite all mankind is love. The
cross of Christ blots out
nationality and writes
humanity," Present in the
congregation were nine members
of the Crediton Cub Pack with
their leader John Bierling. Calvin
Fahrner explained the work of
the Beach Mission.

By PAUL SALMON
Mr. and Mrs. Bill McCann of
Mt. Carmel have every reason to
be proud of the high goals their
daughter, Jane, has set for
herself. Last June, Jane received
her Bachelor of Arts Degree in
Social Sciences from the
University of Western Ontario,
and her achievement marked the
end of a successful but hectic
period in her life.
In the school year of 1969-1970,
Jane was enrolled in a languages
programme at the University of
Waterloo, While there, she met
Mr. John Gillespie, who later
became her husband.
Jane left Waterloo at the end of
her first year, when they decided
to live and work in Toronto. After
spending two years in that city,
the couple moved to London, and
in 1972, Jane enrolled in a Social
Sciences programme at
Western.
Unfortunately, due to a dif-
ference of the credit policies at
Western and Waterloo, the
credits Jane acquired at
Waterloo could not be used
towards her Degree at Western,
Nevertheless, by taking six-week
summer courses, Jane completed
a 3-year Degree in only 2 years,
No sooner had she received her
Degree it June, but along came
the couple's first child, a boy,
Shawn, born in July.
Although Jane plans to stay at
home this year to take care of
Shawn, she's planning to go to
Althouse Teacher's College next
year, and hopes to teach special
education in the elementary
level, particularly kindergarten.
The couple now live in the
Crediton area, where John is
employed With the Canada
Manpower Agency.
Not one, but two Weddings have;
kept the Hubert Carey family of
Mt. Carmel very busy, Two
weekends ago, Mr. and Mrs.
Hubert Carey, as well as their son
and daughter-in-law, Donald and
Margaret Carey, travelled to
Simeoe where they attended the
wedding of Teresa Mater, a niece
of the elder Mr. Carey, to Mr.
Robert Holmes. On this past
weekend it was off to Windsor for
the Carey's for the marriage of
Randy Masse, a nephew of Mrs.
Hubert Carey, to Susan
Rutherford.

Studenti take part
in OXFAM event
Students at South Huron
District High School will join
students across Ontario in taking
part in a World Harvest, on
November 20, sponsored by
OXFAM, according to student
council president, Tom Hayter.
In some areas, students are
planning to fast on that day, but
the student's council at South
Huron felt that it would be more
beneficial to the cause if they
organized a fund-raising drive
instead,
OXFAM organizations in
Canada and the United States are
asking organized groups, schools,
families and individuals to go
without food for all or part of that
day. The money they save on food
will be donated to OXFAM to
support self -help, agricultural
projects in 20 developing nations.
Fifty secondary schools,
colleges and universities in
Ontario are already taking part
in this year's Fast, A similar
event in Canada and the United
States last year raised almost
$250,000.
Participants may mail
donations to OXFAM, Box 18,000,
Station "A", Toronto. During the
mail disruption, any branch of
the Royal Bank in Ontario will
also accept donations to OXFAM.
