Oldest resident dies in hospital
Little vandalism reported at Granton

There Were the usual Ghosts,
Hobgoblins, witches and other
queer characters abroad on the
streets on Friday night but little
vandalism. A few harmless fires
the teenagers, sponsored by the
Friendly Neighbors club in
conjunction with the Scout and
CO leaders. A good time was had
by all.

Highlight of the evening was a
party held at the Scout Hall for
the wee folk in the early part of
the evening and a dance later for Scout & Cub news
The Cub meeting Monday night
took the form of a Halloween
Party. Each cub brought a guest
and packed a lunch for himself
and his visitor, either a boy or
girl,
The program was planned by
Tawny Star cubs, entertainment
included, bobbing for apples,
pushing candy kisses with the
nose, balloon novelties, and a
licorice chew,
Everybody had a good time,
especially when a scout leader
dressed as a spook came to the
door, and threw chocolate bars to
the children, although the
younger children were scared of
the Apparition,
A new cub leader was
welcomed. Mrs. Lynne Rowe will
assist Mrs. Doreen McRobert and
Mrs. Mavis Knapman.
Both leaders and cubs wish to
send a "get well" message to
Mrs. Mavis Knapman who is a
patient in St. Marys Memorial
Hospital.
Wednesday the Scout and Cub
leaders of Granton attended a
meeting for Perth County leaders
held at Kirkton, A film depicting
the 1975 Jamboree held in Nor-
way, was shown and greatly
appreciated.

Mary Mills conducted the
morning service and took her
sermon from the book of Hebrews
chapter 12:28, referring to All
Saint's Day, meaning the One
God, describing it to life which is

showing our talents in Faith,
Patience and Godliness quoted
Rev. Mills. Flowers were placed
in the sanctuary in memory of the
late Hubert Hodgins,
he resided until entering hospital
where he passed away.
Pallbearers at the funeral
which was Wednesday afternoon,
were Kenneth Hodgins, > liner
Halton, Allan Scott, Stanley
Scott, Allen Aitcheson and
Douglas Tuttle, the grandsons
were flower bearers, interment
was in St. James Cemetery,

London were dinner guests of Mr.
& Mrs. Kenneth Hodgins and
family, following the funeral of
the late Mr. Hubert Hodgins on
Wednesday afternoon.
Mr. Don Middleton, Toronto
was home for the weekend and
attended church Sunday.
Mr, &Mrs, Elmer Harlton have
left for their winter home in
Florida.

CGIT news
Friday, October 24 the Granton
CGIT enjoyed a roller skating
party in London, and later
returned to the home of leader
Mrs. Marion Gricken for a fried
chicken lunch.
At the regular meeting
Tuesday evening, initiation
ceremonies took place for both
members and leaders. The girls
have started to embroider em-
blems for their uniforms as a
project. Sixteen girls with
leaders Mrs. Marion Gricken and
Mrs. Betty Rooney comprise the
group.

Halloween party at Exeter Public School, Friday. Above, teacher Marg

sessions and board of managers
met in Cromarty church for a
discussion on the planning and
operation of the missionary work
of the church.
Also taking part in these
discussions were Miss Welsh, Mr.
MacLean, and Miss Pat Hanna,
who is the director of Services for
Overseas Students and Laymen
Abroad.
The Happy Gang
The Happy Gang met at the
United Church Wednesday af-
ternoon. In the absence of the
president Mrs. Thomas
Dickinson, Mrs. James Kerr past
president took charge of the
meeting.
Business discussed was the
Christmas dinner which will take
place at midday on November 26,
in the church basement with
UCW unit (3) doing the catering.
Mrs. Gordon Dann who was in
charge of the program invited
Mrs. Wm. Morley to show her
pictures of their trip through
Northern Ontario and the
Western Provinces, these were
very much enjoyed. Lunch was
served by the committee in
charge, Mrs. Dann, Mrs, G.
Squire, and Mrs. J. Kerr. Those
honored by having their name on
the Birthday Cake were Jean
Westrnan and Daisy Gregory.
HUBERT HODGINS
Granton's oldest resident Mr.
Hubert Hodgins passed away in
St. Marys Memorial Hospital
Monday, October 27, 1975 after a
lengthy illness in his 92nd year.
Hubert Hodgins was born in
Stephen Township July 21, 1884,

Mrs. Ivan Norris opened the
October meeting of the Marian
Ritchie Evening Auxiliary with a
call to worship, meditation and
prayer. The roll call was an-
swered by a verse on Praise.
Mrs. John Miller read the
scripture from Psalm 100,
followed by the meditation on
singing,
Mrs. Robert Laing was in
charge of the study book chapter
on minority groups in the world
including the Koreans in Japan,
ethnic groups such as the
Ukrainians and Chinese in
Canadian ci'ties,Indian
Canadians and the Hill tribes of
Taiwan.
The topic, Faith Makes People
Strong, was taken by Mrs. John
Miller, and Mrs. Carter Kerslake
led a contest of Biblical names.
Missionary emphasis weekend
Cromarty Presbyterian Church
took part in a Missionary
Emphasis Weekend, Saturday
and Sunday starting with a
ladies' coffee hour at the home of
Mrs. Mervin Dow, Saturday
morning. Rev, Mac MacLean,
Synodical Superintendent of
Missions for Manitoba, led the
discussion.
Miss Wilma Welsh, who
returned recently from Taiwan,
was guest speaker in Cromarty
church on Sunday afternoon. She
spoke on the history of
Christianity in Formosa, and
stated that not only are we
sending missionaries and
financial help to Taiwan, but
are doing the same for
Americans in need. Previous to
the church service, Miss Welsh
showed slides of Formosa to the

was a weekend guest of Mrs.

Residents in the Cromarty area
were startled on Monday mor-
ning by what sounded like a loud
sonic boom, Cause of the blast
was the dynamiting of a -large
stone at Bob Laing's fifty, a mile
west of the village.
Kathy Douglas and Margaret
Laing, who operated the booth at
Cromarty Park, report that they
still have a bulky knit sweater
and a child's hat found in the park
this summer.
Frances Scott, London, spent
Tuesday with her parents Mr. &
Mrs. Gordon Scott. Last Wed-
nesday, Anna Scott, London,
visited with her parents.

Paddy is Headquarters Sergeant with the London City
Police' and was responsible for the formation of their pop-
ular pipe band. He served Overseas in World War II with
707 Somber Squadron as a tailaunner and was twice
taken prisOner, and both times escaped.
