YACMR is really rolling along
this year. We are planning to
arrange an activity once per
month. For the month of October
we had an activity for each,
Huron Hope School and ARC
Industries in Dashwood.
Tuesday, October 21, we had a
social night for the trainees at
ARC Industries. The trainees
remained at ARCIndustries until
the YACMR kids arrived. We
then played games until 5:30 and
then we had supper,
The YACMR kids each brought
a dish for the meal. After the
meal was over Sue-Ann
Schneider entertained us with her
guitar and singing.
We really enjoyed it and joined
in singing when we knew the
words. A special thank you Sue-
Ann, we really appreciate it. The
buses left for home at 7:45.
Everyone was tired but happy.
Halloween was a special treat
for Huron Hope kids and for the
YACMR kids. YACMR once
again this year took the Huron
Hope children "trick or
treating," The children were
taken to their neighbouring
towns.
The towns that were visited
were Zurich, Grand Bend and
Exeter. YACMR dressed up with
the kids, We even got candy at

SOUTH HURON GREASERS — A number of South Huron District High School students participated in
Friday's Greaser Day. Shown above are from the left Regina Miller, Pam O'Brien, Claudia Jackson and

If you
decide . . .
If you decide you are beaten, you
are
If you decide you dare not, you
don't
If you'd like to win, but decide
you can't
it's a cinch you won't
If you decide you'll lose, you've
lost
For out in the world you'll find
Success begins with a fellow's
will
Think big and your deeds will
grow
Think small and you fall behind
Decide that you can, and you will
It's all in the state of mind
If you think you're outclassed,
you are
You've got to think high to rise
You've got to be sure of yourself
Before you can win the prize
Life's battle doesn't always go
To the stronger or faster man
But sooner or later, the man who
wins
Is the man who decides he can.
Outers enjoy
Bruce jaunt
By BARB RATZ
The Senior Outers spent the
Past weekend hiking a section of
the Bruce Trail between
Tobermory and Cypress Lake, It
was necessary to set up camp in
the dark Friday evening as we
did not arrive at Cypress Lake
Park until 6:30 p.m.
The weather turned on us, and
we prepared our supper in some
rain. Afterwards we had a
campfire, sang some very
"original" (halm) camp songs,
told stories, toasted mar-
shmallows and had an all
around good time.
Saturday was spent in hiking
about 6 miles, The weather was
cool, but not' too windy, so hiking
was quite warm if anything. We
set up camp in the late afternoon.
Two campers from the area
told us there were bears around,
but they Said since Mr. Marshall
had his two dogsalong wei need not
worry - (Thanks to Sid and
Maggie). Cooking was again an
experience for all, as there is a
knack to doing it over an open
fire. The evening was perfect as
the weather stayed mild.
Sunday morning, after a hearty
breakfast, we set out to cover the
last 4 or 5 miles of our hike. We
happened to meet some of the
students from the Centralia
College who were also hiking. It
was then on to the Park where we
had camped Friday night, and
where our bus awaited. Our last
lunch was quite a feast as
everyone put in any left over food
and we all shared together.
The trip home was fun, and as
usual, noisy.
some houses. We count it a real
privilege to be able to do this for
some of our "best friends."
Once again this year YACMR is
selling Christmas Cards. The
cards are on sale in the school.
Any students who are interested
just ask a YACMR member in the
halls, We will help you. If
someone comes knocking at your
door selling these cards please
buy some. Just remember they
are being sold for a worthy
cause!

FUNERAL HOME

After more than three years of living in an apartment I
moved last August. They deducted from my security
deposit of $191 the following items: $12 for missing
drapes; $25 for repair of a small piece of Arborite. I return-
ed the drapes but they didn't return my $12. •
Now to that countertop. I think they could have repaired
it for under $10,00. I have tried to get the head of the
apartment chain but he won't answer my letters. When
they made their claims, I claimed against them. I had a
leaky apartment and the water ruined my carpet.
In the winter, the sun melted the snow and water came
in. In summer, the rain came in. That water didn't come
through the window. It seeped in from the ground because
I had a ground floor apartment. The carpet is rotten. When
I claimed for it, they said they didn't have time for such
rubbish.
Rubbish it may be, but it was once a good carpet. Final-
ly, the rental man said it didn't matter anyway. I couldn't
hold the owner responsible for faulty construction. I want
$180 for my rotten carpet.
No chancel Water coming up through the floor is an "Act of
God" and covered by your insurance not theirs. That's what they
say. But, let's break down the claims, counter-claims and final
bills for the last time.
They sent you $72 because the superintendent forgot to tell
them you returned the missing drapes. But that's if. it cost them
$36.54 to repair the countertop. It cost them another $22.82 to
repair the panel top of your stove. They didn't charge you. They
alsp spent $28.30 cleaning your apartment.
You're still ahead of them by $12, So don't knock it.

KIPPEN 262-2823 1 235-1331
I recently purchased another car and phoned my out of
town insurance company pronto, to have them change ,
over my policy from my previous car which I had sold
privately. I was told on the phone that this would be done
right away without any problem.
In due course I received in the mail, a temporary cer-
tificate of insurance, valid for 21 days. The problem is that
this time limit ha now expired, and with the mail strike still
being on I haven't received my new policy. I'm worried in
case I might be stopped by the police and be unable to
produce a valid certificate.
What is my position, in the event such a thing occurs?
You are worrying quite needless/y. Everyone is all too aware
of the current postal strike, including the police, Tell them lust
what you have told us and invite them to call your insurance
company collect, if they need verification,

I took my 12-year-old daughter to an agency for a
screen test, The people at the studio said she was suitable
for screening and they gave her one. They took some color
film of her.
Later, they called me to say my daughter had passed the
test and I was to be patient because soon all kinds of offers
for film work would be coming to her.
They said they were going to finalize some
arrangements and it would just be a matter of time before
the money would start to roll in (with them taking a 15
percent agent's fee off the fop, of course).
Well, time kept passing and nothing happened. I called
them just recently and the excuse I got was the man who
had been dealing with me was on vacation and I would
have to wait until he got back.
I've been waiting four months now and I'm starting to
get a bit disgusted. Did I pay out $65 for that screen test
for nothing?
Something like that. But hope spring eternal and if you Want
to go hoping for a film job for your daughter for the next six
months (if the company is around then) go ahead.

Showed lack of spirit
Most of the student body at South Huron are involved in extra-
curricular school activities, whether it be participating in sports
or clubs.
When a special event goes on in a club or there is a game at
our school, the people involved like to have spectators there to
either participate in the activity or cheer the school team on.
Likewise when the student council plans on an event and asks for
the participation of the student body it's only fair that the students
show their school spirit and participate.
Last Friday was "Greaser Day" at SHDHS. Throughout last
week we were reminded constantly by posters, announcements of
what to wear, how to act and generally how to get into the spirit of
the day.
The dance Friday night was to be the climax of the event. The
student council worked hard to try to get the student body ready
for Friday. It was disappointing when only half of the school dress-
ed up.
Some students thought the event was babyish and showed the
immaturity of the students, Others were offended by the type of
dress, while still others couldn't be bothered (not worth the ef-
fort?)
Whatever the excuse not dressing up for "Greaser Day" show-
ed a lack of school spirit.
Lack of school spirit is also demonstrated at our volleyball
games, basketball games, football games and generally all school
activities. No one is asking anyone to skip classes to support your
school.
But, if a student has a spare minute or doesn't have to go home
right after school they should come and cheer their school mates
on. The cheerleaders do a terrific job but the more support the
better it is. A student only gets out of his high school years what he
puts in.
This week (and the rest of the school year) come out and sup-
port your school teams, Stick together as a student body and show
your school spirit not only in sports but in every school activity.
The end result will be worth it.
