A turning lane at the westerly
entrance to Harpurhay, off High-
way 8 is being established this
fall by the Ontario Ministry of
Transportation and Com-
munications, Tuckersmith
council learned Tuesday night.
The Ministry in a letter to
council stated that due to
monetary restrictions it would
not be possible to assist in paying
part of the costs of street lighting
at two eastern entrances to
Harpurhay as requested some
time ago by council.
Ross Knight, London of the
Ontario Humane Society visited
the council meeting to discuss
animal control in the township.
He is to evaluate mileage and
service requirements in
Tuckersmith and report back to
council.
Having recently signed a
contract with Bayfield, Knight
said it would be convenient to add
Tuckersmith to 17 other
municipalities for which the
Society is providing pound
keeping and animal control
services.
He said the Society is picking,
up fewer dogs and of these 50
percent are beingreclaimed.This
is an increase from 30 percent of
a few years ago.

getting more educated in the
control and caring of pets."

Atchison of the Ontario Ministry
of Transportation and Com-
munication met council to
discuss a survey on township
roads to update stop and yield
signs.
Council is now required to pass
road bylaws to cover the sign
installations.
Laurin warned it was im-
portant to inspect signs regularly
and said they must be retro-
reflective to be equally visible
day and night. If varnished they
will last twice the usual four or
five years.
The Transportation Ministry
will pay 50 percent of costs in

street near the Egmondvllle
