This is what Ontario is doing to protect you. We have a new law in Ontario called the Business Practices Act. Its purpose is to prevent unfair business practices in sales to the public. Here's what the law does: • it prohibits false, misleading or deceptive tactics in the sale of products and services. • it prohibits too high prices, unfair contracts and high-pressure sales methods. • helps people get their moneybck if a seller has taken unfair advantage of them. The Province of Ontario wants you to get your money's worth when you buy. Expensive items such as cars and homes require a lot of thought, so the Government of Ontario has prepared some simple booklets that tell you what to watch out for when you buy, explain- ing the do's and don'ts about: "Buying a Car" "Buying Real Estate" "Buying a Condominium" "Getting a Mortgage" You can also get a booklet called "Balance in the Marketplace—The Consumer's Guide to the Business Practices Act." If you would like a copy of any of these booklets, or if you wish to report an unfair business practice, write now to: Ontario Consumer Oueen's Park Toronto, Ontario M4Y 1Y7 Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations Sidney Handleman, Minister ed---,--N --0 dt2"4Eziod= Province of Ontario William Davis, Premier DALEY'S WEEKLY COMMENTS Let's remember LUCAN LEGION Remembrance Day Activities * Friday, November 7 Commencing at 7:00 p.m. door to door poppy blitz. By SID DALEY Our readers are requested to please keep in mind the Remembrance Day services which will be held in their areas and to make every effort to at- tend. Our friends and neighbours didn't shirk their duty when they joined up in 1914-18 and 1939-45 to do their bit, many of whom paid the supreme sacrifice Surely we as citizens can set aside our pleasures for a brief period as a token of Remembrance. They served till death — why not we. It is also requested of our citizens that they support their local Poppy Campaign. Our service men are getting older and as each year passes more and more of them are requiring assistance; this plus ever in- creasing costs — need more be said? From all reports the Branch Halloween dance held last Saturday was a great success — everyone attending said it was "a really big show". That is until about 11 p.m, when the'fire siren sounded and the firemen in at- tendance sped to the scene. It must have been quite a sight to see many of the volunteer firemen in Halloween costume fighting fire. Incidentally, in my book, the members of the Lucan Volunteer Fire Department are the GREATEST. Denise Donovan's name was drawn as winner of the pot of gold on Saturday night and as you may have guessed she was not registered. Be a good one to win next Saturday. Keeping my fingers crossed. And that's 30 for this week remember — One of the best ways to lose a friend is to tell him something for his own good.
