DOUGLAS GEOFFREY Lorna Darlene Porter and Douglas Francis Geoffrey were united in marriage, Saturday, October 4, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, with Rev. Father Mooney officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lorne A. Porter of Exeter. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Geoffrey, RR 2, Zurich. Maid of honour was Lois Porter, sister of the bride, bridesmaids were Paulette St. Pierre, friend of the bride, Mrs, Darlene Finkbeiner, Mrs. Colleen Wilson, sisters of the groom. Best man was Gary Hartman, friend of the groom and ushers were Harvey Stewart, cousin of the bride, Randy Geoffrey and Steve Geoffrey, brothers,of the groom. Flowergirl was Julie Porter, cousin of the bride, ringbearer was Shawn Finkbeiner, nephew of the groom. Mrs. Tillie Rau wai organist joined by Julie Rau in singing the hymns. AND MRS. DOUGLAS BEAVER Dunlop United Church, Sarnia, was the setting for the August 23 wed- ding of Nancy Maggs and Douglas Beaver. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Maggs of Sarnia and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Beaver of Goderich. Rev. L Stapleton conducted the ceremony. James MacArthur was the organist and Arlene Dick was the soloist. Matron of honor was Karen Scott, sifter of the bride while bridesmaids were Yvonne Maggs, Carol James and Arlene Hurst. Best man was David Beaver, brother of the groom and ushers were Donald Scott, Peter Mason and Roger Ratz, After a wedding trip to Muskoka area, the couple will take up residence in Goderich. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •• At , • "It's like a miracle!” Tiny Lillian Dickson, a missionary in Taiwan, was commenting on the offering at Caven Presbyterian Church on Thursday night when the in- ternationally known lady spoke to a capacity crowd, "I've never had a collection like that in all my speaking engagements," said Mrs, Dickson. And I've never spoken to such a packed audience." While Mrs. Dickson, in her speaking tours across North America, has spoken to many larger audiences, she said never had so many people been packed into a hall of that size, Officials from Caven estimated about 350 attended the. engagement as numerous chairs were placed to supplement the normal seating. - The chairs getting closer and closer to the door of the church and as the last to arrive were seated, only a matter of inches was left vacant. The offering, according to Gwyn Whilsmith of the Exeter District Christian Women's Club, was $2,070.20 and additional pledges were made that will provide seven scholarships for children in Taiwan. In introducing Mrs, Dickson, Mrs. Whilsmith noted how the Exeter Christian Women's Club had attempted to have her Speak here a year ago_ but found her itinerary already set. Realizing how much in demand Mrs. Dickson was as a Speaker, the club then put in their request a year in advance and had been planning the event ever since. The story of Lillian Dickson, known to many as "Typhoon Lii" was told very graphically in a film. Mrs. Dickson, through her organization called The Mustard Seed Inc., has been responsible for the founding and operation of hospitals leprosariums, or- phanages, maternity hospitals, schools and a host of other in- stitutions and activities to Assist the people of Taiwan.
