CENTRALIA
Rev. Vernon Leis, minister of
the Mennonite Church in Elmira
and President of the Mennonite
Mission Board. of Ontario and
Quebec, was the guest speaker at
the anniversary service in the
United Church on Sunday mor-
ning. ln .addition he writes
editorials for the Canadian
Mennonite Reporter and is a
director of the Mennonite Central
Committee of Canada.
"Gifted People" was the
subject chosen by Rev. "Leis for
his anniversary sermon. Gifts
must be used or they become of
no value. To illustrate this point,
he asked a young boy to come
forward and receive the gift he
was about to give him. To the
boy's surprise the gift waS an
egg. Eggs can be eaten or can he
used for baking but if left on the
shelf they rot. So it is with people,
The speaker formed a circle
with three members of the
congregation to show that
nothing can be accomplished
alone, we must work together, A
group of people get excited and
discover each others gifts,
He introduced a family to
illustrate the importance of being
together. Each one is a child pf
the Heavenly Father and in God's
eye each one is special, The
church should be a place to en-
courage each other and to enjoy
fellowship together.
The Heywood brothers and
Glenn Hodgins delighted their
listeners with their music and
singing.
The church was decorated with
flowers, fruits, vegetables and
autumn leaves, A pot luck dinner
and social hour followed the
service,
There was a note of sadness
when it was learned that Rev.
Leis was mourning the loss of his
mother.

A new dry cleaner opened in our area so I took several
articles into them, including a dress, which had two small
tea stains on it. I showed them to the lady in charge and
she assured me that they could be removed' with no
problem. When I got the dress back, the stains had dis-
appeared alright, but in their place was a ring of some
kind of hard matted material, so back I went to the store
and again showed them my dress, only to be told, "That
this happens sometimes, with synthetic materials."
This is absolute rubbish because my dress is made of
wool.
Since then their head office has offered me $12.00 plus
$5.00 free cleaning which I' have refused as my dress cost
me $30.00 and is less than a year old,
Will you talk to them for me please?
This we did and they have now agreed to pay you $17.00 for
your damaged dress plus $5.00 free cleaning which they say is
more than fair for a year old article. They adamantly state that
this is their final offer, and that you could either take it, or leave I
it! Hope this is satisfactory to you, because it's the best we can do
with this firm.

Proudly we moved into our new home but discovered
shortly thereafter, that all was not going to be as cosy as
we had hoped, because shortly after we took possession
we discovered that the foundation was leaking quite bad-
ly.
A phone call to the construction company brought
prompt results but there was water damage in the base-
ment and we were promised that reimbursement would
be forthcoming, but up till now we have received no pay-
ment.
As we don't seem to be making any real headway with
this problem, we are passing it along to "IMPACT" hoping
that you will act on our behalf .. . Thank you.
According to the construction company our reader did not
complain about water damage until several months later, which,
upon investigation was found to be due to dampness, caused by
normal moisture content in a new concrete structure.
The firm told us that this would not have existed if all the
water had been cleared up as soon as the leak was repaired.
They have agreed to foot part of your $75.00 claim for
damage to clothes stored in your basement, and have promised
to send you a cheque for one third, or $25.00, as soon as the
mail strike is settled.

A breakdown of a lengthy letter from a woman reader, in-
formed us, that she and a companion answered an ad from a
large travel agency for an air package tour to Las Vegas. Both
of these ladies paid $325.00 for their trip and according to our
reader the advertisement that they answered clearly stated that
they would each receive "ME", a camera and film,
The writer goes on to tell us that they got only one camera
and film between them and she is very annoyed as she thinks
both she and her friend are the victims of "false advertising."
"Not so", replies the travel agency, "this special rate of
$325.00 was based on double occupancy, and only one camera
was given per room, and this offer was clearly defined at the
time the bookings were made."
At any rate the travel agency now feel that enough time has
already been spent with this matter, so to end it once and for all,
have clamed to ship a second camera, which they hope, "will
keep our reader, happy."
