Larry Johns was named the
best defensive player of the week
due mainly to 13 key tackles and
Ken Pinder took top offensive
honours.
The South Huron junior win-
ning streak came to an end
Thursday afternoon when they
were handed a 22-6 loss in
Goderich.
The Goderich youngsters came
up with a strong fourth quarter
performance with 19 points to
overcome a 6-3 South Huron lead
at the end of three periods of
play.
The only scoring of the first
half came when Goderich kicked
three single points with the aid of
a strong wind.
The first Panther scoring
threat came early in the third
quarter when Brad Taylor with a
crashing tackle knocked the ball
loose from a Goderich ball
carrier and Mike Westelaken
recovered the fumble.
For the first time the Panthers
were able to move the ball suc-
cessfully. They went 20 yards for
a major score with Perry Pooley
going the final yard on a one yard
quarterback sneak to put his club
in front 6-3.
Early in the fourth quarter the
Vikings caught the South Huron
defense in their only mistake of
the afternoon as they scored a
touchdown on a pass from a fake
field goal attempt,
The final Goderich six pointer
came in the dying moments of the
game when a Goderich per-
former returned a South Huron
punt a distance of 55 yards,
Injuries during the game
hampered the South Huron team
both on offence and defence.
Fullback Larry Regier and
tackle Terry Luther suffered
injuries which will sideline them
for the balance of the season.
Halfback Paul Pooley also left to
join the disabled list.
On the defensive side, Brad
Taylor led the Panther juniors
with 11 key tackles. Coming next
with a half dozen tackles apiece
were Ted Triebner, Jeff O'Brien
and Tim Smith.
Jeff O'Brien led the SH rushers
with 44 yards in 10 carries and
Paul Pooley picked up 40 yards in
the same number of attempts.

home and home series. The two
game set starts at the Ilderton
arena Friday night at 8:30 p.m,
with the return game at the
London Gardens Saturday night
at .8 p.m.
The Kings and Durham
Huskies broke even in two
weekend games, each team
winning away from home. Jets
manager Don Urbshott was in
attendance at the game in
London and said he was im-
pressed by both teams, especially
the hustle of the Durham club.
' An i Ilega stick
The Jets took advantage of a
penalty to Wally Keating of St.
Thomas in the last two minutes of
the third period for playing with
an:illegal stick.
With the score tied at 3-3 with
Keating off Randy Roth finished
off a three-way passing effort
with Dick Doughty and Barry
Baynham.
The Jets were forced to fight
back from a 3-1 deficit early in
the third period.
Goals by Gary Thompson and
Jim Eirson in the first period put
the Canadians out in front. At
13.43 of the second period Jeff
Craig put the Jets on the
scoreboard for the first time
when he was able to poke the
puck in to the St. Thomas net
from a scramble. The assist went
to Barry Baynham,
Ken Grayson formerly of the
Belmont Sunsets put St. Thomas
back into a two goal margin early
in the final session,
The Jets rebounded quickly
and at 4.45 Bill Bannerman
blasted in a hard slap shot on a
play started by Jim Blake and
Bill White.
The tying goal came at 13.06
when Bill White got the draw in
the St. Thomas end of the rink
and slid the puck back to Jim
Blade and he quickly desposited
the puck into the net,
Lorne Daer and Sonny Pen-
nington shared goal tending
duties for the Jets.

night were Tom Glover, Dan
McPhee, Jack Creel, Pat Payton,
John Yeoman and Don Jones.

Kincaid came up with two great
plays to keep the Goderich
scoring attack from reaching its
potential. Kincaid recovered a
fumble early in the quarter and in
the later stages intercepted a
pass.
Goderich again had the wind
advantage to start the third
quarter and the South Huron
defence rose to the occasion to
block two serious scoring at-
tempts.
Dan Overholt came out of
nowhere to knock away a
Goderich pass and Larry Johns
made a big tackle to stop
Goderich short on a third down
ground play,
The longest gain of the season
for the senior Panthers late in the
third period produced the third
SH touchdown.
On a second down situation
with 20 yards to go quarterback
John Van Gerwen called a short
pass to Ken Pinder who got
behind the secondary and picked
off a perfect pass.
Pinder has now been tagged
with the name "The Snake"
because of his brilliant run of 105
yards.
On the first play of the fourth
quarter, John Gould with the
wind at his back boomed the ball
more than 75 yards for another
single point.
In the final minutes of the game
the Goderich club never
managed to get outside their own
45 yard line as Gould kept them
back with his booming punting.
Goderich conceded the final
two points late in the game to,
keep ball control but Larry Johns
hit a ball carrier to jar the ball
loose and Dan McIver recovered.
