Mrs. Mervyn Tiernan
welcomed the guests, members
of Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid, for
fellowship together at hobby
night. The Community Friend-
ship comrnittee,was in charge of
a Thankoffering meeting. Mrs.
Lloyd Guenther led in prayer
followed by responsive reading,
"Thanksgiving", Mrs, Ross Love
and Mrs, Mervyn Tiernan
favoured with two duets, A poem
was read by Gerald Mason,
"Thank You God for
Everything," The ladies were
privileged to have present Mrs.
Ruth Anne Merner, who teaches
art at London HighSchool to help
them understand more about art.
She had a film which was most
interesting and informative. She
also brought wall hangings,
weaving, and pillows she had
made, For hobby night, the ladies
had a display of quilts, afghans,
button collections and other
items,
Mrs. Tiernan conducted the
business. There were 22 mem-
bers and 17 guests present. An
invitation from Mt. Carmel
ladies for Open House November
4 was accepted. Remember the

Wednesday, October 15, the
South Huron Fall Regional of the
UCW was held in Zion United
Church, its theme "Thanks be
unto God,
Aid Society. Thursday evening
Mrs, Krueger and her daughter,
Mrs. Robert Crawford, attended
the Society banquet in Goderich.
Sgt, and Mrs. Lone Pedersen
and family, Camp Petewawa and
Mr. & Mrs. Doug Kirk and Glen,
Winnipeg, spent several days
with Mr. & Mrs. Oluf Pedersen
and Mr. & Mrs. Bud Durdin and
family.
Local president, Mrs. Cliff
Russell greeted delegates at the
door. Mrs. Ross Pickering was in
charge of the registration table.
Because of the fiftieth an-
niversary of the United Church,
part of the program consisted of a
looking back by each church
group. Mrs. Russell Finkbeiner
"looked back" for Crediton.
A noonday meal was served by
members of the local unit,
in Niagara Falls Saturday and
Sunday to attend the fiftieth
wedding anniversary celebration
of Mr, & Mrs, Harrison England,
Mrs. Gerald Dearing
represented the Women's
Institute at the area convention in
St. Thomas, Wednesday. Rev.
Anne Langford was guest
speaker. Mrs. Robert Ball's
crocheted centrepiece was
quickly sold from the craft table.
Rev, & Mrs, Armin Schlenker
were in Clifford Sunday for the
anniversary celebration of the
United Church. Rev. Schlenker
served eight years as pastor of
the church,
Mrs. Bruce Pierce returned
home from hospital Friday,
A canvass for the Canadian
Bible Society will be held October
26 to November 2. Rev. Armin
Schlenker is campaign chairman
Lisa Martin, a patient at St.
Joseph's Hospital, returned home
Tuesday.
Mr, & Mrs. Ross Krueger have
been awarded a plaque for 15
years of service as foster parents
for the Huron County Children's

Anniversary service
Anniversary, services were
held in Calvary United church
Sunday, October 19 with a good
attendance at both services.
Guest speaker at the morning
service was Rev. Harold Snell,
Exeter, with Mrs. Robert Hoff-
man soloist.
At the evening service Rev.
Graham Tipple, minister of
Calvary United Church, London,
delivered the message. Members
of Exeter and Clinton Christian
Reformed church provided
special music.
Yeaster bunnies
Club No. 2 of the Dashwood 4-H
girls held their third meeting at
Dashwood Community centre.
Roll call was "At what meal do
you eat the most bread and in
what form?" Elizabeth, Joan and
Teresa demonstrated how to
make brown batter rolls.
Mrs, Keller discussed batter
bread and rolls. Mrs. Rader told
of a variation of batter bread
which would taste like a pizza.
She also discussed "Convenience
yeast products." An experiment
to try is "buying vs making."
The batter rolls were sampled.
A surprise birthday cake was
made for Mrs. Keller by
Elizabeth Datars and served with
ice-cream.

first convention of the WI at St.
Thomas last week.

attended the fall historical
meeting for Huron County,
Wednesday October 15 at
Crediton.

the weekend in London with Mr.

Wednesday evening the
Women's Institute was host to the
Huron County Historical Society.
President Dave McClure was in
charge of a business session.
The Society has passed the 200
mark in its membership. It is
seeking new members, and is
encouraging deeper interest in
the fall fair division "Our
Heritage".
Mrs. Cliff Kenney was program
chairman. Mrs. Harvey Hodgins
accompanied the singing of 0
Canada and The Queen. Mrs.
Wilfred Mack, guest speaker,
reviewed the history of Stephen
Township in general, and of
Crediton in particular.
It is amazing to learn how the
village once flourished, both in
population and in industry, the
peak period being in the
1880's.Harvey Smith and his
daughter Penny entertained with
guitar and piano.
Ella Morlock read a report,
prepared by Reg Finkbeiner, on
the history of the Crediton
Cemetery and gave a talk on
"Names without Places". Mrs.
Bruce Shapton reviewed the
history of quilting. She ac-
companied her children, Bevan
and Janet, as they sang songs
about the art of quilting.
The hall was decorated with
many quilts, some of them newly
stitched, some more than one
hundred years old. They were of
varied patterns, exquisite in
workmanship as well as in design
and eolour. Besides, there were
on display old school' records, old
photographs, a button collection,
a pioneer project, wood carvings
by the late Ed Sweitzer and a
model of a brickyard prepared by
Everett Heist.
After lunch the Women's
Institute met for a business
session. The November meeting
is to be a chicken dinner at the
Village Inn. Members are to be at
the Community Hall by 6,30 for
the ride to Grand Bend,

Elimville I 4-H Club held their
first meeting,
The election of officers took
place. The president is Sandra
Hero, vice president is Nancy
Cornish and the secretary is
Elizabeth Scott.
The name of their club is the
"Busy Bakers".
Elimville II 4-H club held their
second meeting at the home of
the leaders, Mrs. Judy Johns on
Monday night.
The meeting was opened with
the 4-H pledge. The roll call was
answered by "A basic ingredient
of. bread and what it does."
Mrs. Johns had made the basic
white bread and it had rose for
the first time,
Mrs. Cooper demonstrated
"shaping the loaf". Cheryl
Parsons also shaped one loaf,
After rising for 1 hour the bread
was baked.
