T-A photo Only two mishaps Quiet week for police es ket.4 -COIT group celebrates The 60th Anniversary of the forming of Canadian Girls in Training was celebrated at the Lucan United Church, Sunday. Members of the local group assisted in the choir and sang the C.G.I.T. hymn, Scriptures were read by Brenda Thomson, Wendy Hearn and Judith Weber, superin- tendent, together with Bea Madden, former Girls' Work Secretary for Manitoba, presented "Yesterday and Today" in C.G.I.T. They reminisced regarding their days in C.G.I.T. and Mrs. Weber told of the various projects done by the Lucan.Clandeboye Group, e,g. The Stained Glass Memorial Window, Communion Table Drape, etc. 'Tis said that C,G.I.T. had meant to some of the boys "Cutest" or "Craziest" Girls in Town, rather than the proper name! Members used to work for Chevrons but now competition has been deleted from the program and the only badges presented are "The World Friendship Badge" upon com- pletion of mission study and maple leaves for the executive, leaders and camp council. Up-coming programs include "Manners Make a Difference" "Baby Sitters' Course", "Good Grooming" by a professional model, a Musical Production, Vesper Service, and the remembrance of shut-ins at Christmas, plus, of course, Bible Study, Worship and Recreation, A new middy is in the making with zippered front and manufactured from a drip-dry material. Mothers will say "Hallelujah"! Congratulations to the leaders and girls for a fine service and thanks for their leadership in the months ahead, New members 12 to 17 of any denomination, are welcome, TOPS girls play euchre The Lucan TOPS club held a euchre on Wednesday evening in the downstairs room of the Shillelagh Motel. It was an- nounced the next euchre will be held November 19 at 8 p.m. It has been brought to the at- tention of the club we have now reached the quota of members and there will be a waiting list, Members not in good standing may not be able to renew membership in the club,if, there is a waiting list — So come out and be anactive member. Contests are going well and everyone is getting into the spirit of things. Lucan Branch $40 was well represented with eight members in at- tendance. Although the weather was inclement it certainly didn't dampen the spirits of those in attendance. It was a good convention and the parade to the cenotaph for the Act of Remembrance was something to behold, Being the Ontario correspondent of the National Magazine 'Legion' there was one resolution in which I took particular interest. MEE 1K3 1-416-360-1770 FIGURE SKATING Sponsored by Ladies' Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion Branch 540 BEGINS November 4 6;30 - 8:30 LUCAN COMMUNITY CENTRE After many weeks of numerous accidents, officers of the Lucan detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were called out to investigate only two mishaps this week. The first occurred Tuesday at 8.45 p.m. on County Road 23, north of Highway 7. A truck driven by Terrence Henry, RR 6, St. Marys collided with a parked vehicle owned by Robert Garrett, RR 3, Granton. After the collision, the Henry vehicle entered the ditch and rolled over. The driver received cuts and bruises in the mishap. Constable W.T. Hodgins listed damages at $1,300. At 6.20 p.m. Thursday vehicles driven by Richard Moffatt, RR 1, Granton and Jitendra Banerjee, London collided at the in- tersection of Highway 23 and the Middlesex-Perth County line. Constable N. A. Campbell was the investigating officer and damages were listed at $475. During the week, detachment officers investigated 51 oc- currences and laid five charges under the Criminal Code and three persons face charges for liquor offences. In traffic en- forcement, 58 charges were laid and 16 warnings issued. Members are reminded the membership early bird cam- paign is in full swing — you are also reminded the Royal Canadian Legion's Golden Anniversary. Just imagine 50 years of service to our Country, the veteran and the municipality in which we live, commences on November 10, Become a part of our celebrations by paying your membership dues early and get in on the swing of things. There are some great programs in the offing to help celebrate our Golden Anniversary in which each and every paid up member will want to take part. Have something to crow about become an Early Bird. Frank where were you? — Frank VanGeel's name was drawn as winner of the Pot of Gold and he not being registered the pot still continues to grow. Ironically Frank was in the Branch but forgot to sign the book. Too bad, Frank but rules are rules. Attention all branches of the Royal Canadian Legion — Due to the impending mail strike, if any Branch has any correspondence they wish delivered to Dominion Command Office, Ottawa, I will be most happy to deliver it for you personally. I am thinking particularly of membership renewals etc. I will be attending a meeting at Legion House Ottawa, early in November. If you wish this service please prepare your submissions the usual way and leave it at Branch 540, Royal Canadian Legion, Lucan by Saturday, November 8 as I will be leaving Lucan on Sunday, November 9. This will be a free service and the more Legion mail the better, And that's 30 for this week — remember — It is not in doing what you like, but in liking what you do that is the secret of hap- piness. Mr. & Mrs. Doug Johnston attended the wedding of Mrs. Johnston's brother, Doug Kyle, to Helen Warren at the Rountree United Church in London. Mr. & Mrs. Evan Butchart and family of Lucan visited with Mrs, Butchart's parents Mr, & Mrs. Dave Scott of Lions Head, Mr. & Mrs. Laurence Hirtzel and Mr, & Mrs. Russell Clarke and Mr. & Mrs. Karl Keller were Sunday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Bev Hirtzel to celebrate Jeffrey's fifth birthday. , Mr, & Mrs. Sheridan Revington visited with their daughter (Elaine) Mrs. John Campbell of Chatham who is a patient in Victoria Hospital. Mr. & Mrs. Ron Riley and family of St. Thomas were Saturday guests of Mr. & Mrs, Don Riley. The family of Mr. & Mrs. Wesley Hickson of Lucan honoured Mr. Hickson with a birthday supper at the Garage in London on Saturday evening, Patricia Law, Ottawa, a student of Western University spent the weekend with her aunt and uncle, Mr. & Mrs. M. H. Hodgins. A new addition to the business places of Lucan is Mrs. Ron Annis Beauty Shop on Main Street north. The community of Lucan sends its deepest sympathy to the family and relatives of the late Daniel L. McGuffin, Mrs. Orville Jones returned home from St. Joseph's Hospital, London where she recently un-derwent surgery. Films will recommence shortly, to be shown on the "Bingo Day". A "Remembrance Book" was purchased to be retroactive to I September 1970, and will be suitably engraved by a Fanshawe student, Karen Hodgson, Butler Street. Cecil Robb reported a further $400.00 in grants has been forthcoming, this time from the Provincial Action Group. Further plans were made to entertain the Ailsa Craig Senior Citizens Club on Thursday, October 30, at 1:30 in the lower hall at Holy Trinity Anglican church with Vine Emery and Muriel Cobleigh as decorating committee, and Jean Miller, Harriet Holmes and E]inora Raycraft as lunch committee. The meat is to be purchased and members will contribute casseroles, etc., and desserts. Costume is optional, but prizes will be presented for costume classes. A motion was passed to pur- chase new curtains for the kit- chen. Rachel Tuke was welcomed back after an absence of several weeks owing to surgery, and Merle Lewis of West McGillivray was welcomed to the Club. Mrs. Lewis gave a reading entitled "In Those Days", a story about Noah and the Ark. Vina Emery also gave a short reading "My Boy's Dog". Marjorie Steeper, Eva Allison and Helen Thompson provided lunch and J. Alex Young made presentations to last year's executive. Bingo was enjoyed by the Sunshine Group and the Busy Buddies carried on with their liquid embroidery under the direction of Donna Hindtnarsh.
