Ever wonder a bit about those fairly common "work at home"
ads published in some newspapers and magazines? One of our
readers recently enclosed a printed form letter extolling the vir-
tues of this way to make "easy money."
A man with a Mitchell address offers to send a Directory and
Instruction Folio on receipt of $5.50. He claims that his directory
of legitimate firms seeking people to address envelopes to be a
brand new edition of over 80 firms guaranteed to be accurate
and up to date. He further claims that people get paid up to
$1.60 for EACH and Every ENVELOPE addressed at home, and
states that his plan is sold on a. 10 day MONEY BACK
GUARANTEE!
Our reader asked us to look into this offer for her and to
evaluate same, We thought the best way to do this was to send
' him $5.50 and see exactly what we got for our money.According-
ly we purchased and mailed a money order to him on September
15th, for this amount, but alas, so far, nothing has happened!
What makes it really bewildering, is that the money order
hasn't even been cashed as yet. As we have been unable to I
reach him by telephone we plan to pay a personal visit to
Mitchell, and will let our readers know the final outcome.

There's a collection agency which seems determined to
get money from 'me that I don't owe to a book club. Some
time ago I mailed them back two books unopened and
notified them by letter that I didn't want any more, but the
bills for them kept coming.
Obviously their billing department and receiving
departments can't have any communication with one
another or they would be aware that I have long since
returned these books and have no intention of paying fat'
something that I don't have or want.
Will you set them straight please, as I seem to be getting
nowhere.
According to the Book Club, they have only just received your
unopened book parcel, and since they were in your possession
for almost a year they naturally assumed that you wanted them,
and so kept on patiently waiting for their money.
When time went on and all their letters to you had been ig-
nored, they decided to place your account into the hands of their
collection agency.
We, like them, can't figure out why it took you the best part of
a year to finally decide that you didn't want the books in the first
place. However the Book Club informs us, that since they have
now received them, unopened, they have quite gladly cancelled
your membership, and you'll get no more bills.

I purchased 6 large tins of dog food at the supermarket
the other day and when I got home I discovered to my an-
noyance that two of these tins were marked at 33c while
the other 4 of exactly the same brand were marked at 35c,
I went back to the store to see what was happening, but
all I got for my trouble was insults and abuse, and this I
may add was from the manager.
What kind of a rip-off is this, when a store is allowed to
charge two different prices for the same article?
1
This particular store manager remembers you quite well, and
the incident that you related to us. However he told us that the
"insults and abuse" to which you refer, were quite true, but that
they came from you to him, and not vice versa,
Secondly, he repeated to us what he claims to have told you,
that the higher price was from his latest order, which cost him
more, and he substantiated this claim by showing us the two in-
voices for this product. He also pointed out that he hod NOT
taken advantage of the increase by restamping the old order
with the new price, "this is quite common practice these days,
with some stores, but you'llneversee it here," he strongly main-
tained.
