Jets win
first game
The Lucan-Ilderton Jets made
their first start of the regular
season of the Ontario Hockey
Association Continental Senior
"A" league a winning one Friday
night.
Playing on their home ice at the
Ilderton arena, the Jets scored a
6-3 victory over the Woodstock
Royals, •
The same two teams meet in
Woodstock tomorrow night
Friday and Sunday afternoon at 2
p.m, the Jets will be back at the
Ilderton arena to take on the new
Port Stanley club. .
The Jets moved into a 4.1 after
two periods of play and were
never headed in posting their
first league victory.
Rick Fifield fired the puck into
the top right hand corner of the
Woodstock net at 17.29 of the first
period on a play sfarted by Don
Carter and Randy Roth.
The second period was only a
minute and 58 seconds old when
Bill White combined with
Jacques Cousineau and Jeff
Craig on a power play to put the
L-I club in fron 2-0.
At 10.32 the score increased by
another goal as Jeff Craig fired in
a slap shot from near the point.
Again it came on a power play
with assists going to Doug
Galloway and Scott Graham.
The first scoring spark from
Woodstock came less than a
minute later when Don Jones hit
the mark.
At 16.59 with Woodstock trying
to get a power play rolling,
Randy Roth scooped up a stray
pass and broke in alone to
completely deke the Woodstock
goalie out of position.
A similar situation occurred
early in the third period when
Roth again stole the puck near
the blueline and whipped a quick
shot into the top left hand side of
the net.
In the last ten minutes of the
game, Dave MacLaren and Gene
MacLaren registered for the
Royals.
Jets manager Don Urbshott
while satisified with the victory
said, "Our team was busy killing
penalities all night. We took 16 of
the 24 infractions assessed."
