Chairman, Mr. Eric Luther and organizer Mrs. Sim Roobol thanked all con- tributors and canvassers for their help in this campaign. ACW meeting The regular meeting of the St. Paul's ACW was held at the home of Miss Petty. In the absence of the president; the vice-president, Mrs. Frank Forrest presided. The scripture was read by Annie Reid. Keeping Thanksgiving in mind, the roll call was answered with a biblical verse containing the word "Harvest". The study book "Encouragement works wonders" was given by Mrs. Windover. Mr. George Beer was another $1,000 winner in the recent Olympic draw. "Traditions", how we stay with them, how we change them and the results of those changes was the subject of the United Church Service conducted by Rev. Don Beck. The choir sang with Mrs. John Turkheim at the organ. Several high school-aged young people from the Hensall area met at Hensall United Church on Sunday evening and decided to meet regularly twice a month on the first and third Sunday evenings. The first regular meeting will be November 2 at 7.30 p.m. when officers for the new group will be elected. Dr. & Mrs. Harold Dilling visited with the former's parents over the weekend. Mr. Wilber Dilling has been confined to his home for the past two weeks with MRS. MARGARET BEAN The former Margaret Elizabeth Pepper, wife of the late Frank T. Bean passed away at the Queensway Nursing Home on Saturday in her 94th year. Surviving are sons John, Paris; Stanley, St. Marys; and daughter Mrs. Rochus (Margaret) Faber Kippen. Also surviving are 11 grand- children, and 26 great-grand children. Funeral service was held from Carmel Presbyterian Church, Monday at 2 p.m. conducted by the Rev. W. D.,Jarvis, Interment in Baird's Cemetery. The pallbearers were Stan Bean, John Bean, Russell Faber, Ross Faber, Roy Pepper, Joe McLellan. GEORGE THOMPSON George Thompson passed away in St. Joseph's Hospital Sunday in his 85th year. He was the husband of the former Eva Giles and uncle of John and Wesley Thompson, Blenheim, and Bill of Trenton, New Jersey, U.S.A. Funeral service was held from the Bonthron Funeral Chapel, Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Don Beck officiating. Mrs. Hilda Beer returned home on Thursday after a three week's visit with her son-in-law and daughter, Captain Ralph D. McArthur, Mrs. McArthur, Mac and Cam in Edmonton, Alberta, Mrs. Jack Simmons and her sister, Mrs. Helen Ferringo of Albany, New York, are holidaying on a three week's trip to California. Mr. & Mrs. Sam Rannie spent the weekend visiting their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Gerry Rannie and family in Brantford. Mrs. Pearl Case of London visited with friends in the village Monday. Anniversary services were held at St. Andrews Church, Kippen on October 19 with Rev. Stevens in charge of worship and the Huronia Male Choir Exeter in charge of the music. He was taken to South Huron Hospital, Exeter where he was treated and is recovering. Rebekahs set euchre party The regular meeting of Amber Rebekah Lodge was held on Wednesday evening with Noble Grand Mrs. Bertha MacGregor in the chair assisted by the Vice Grand Mrs. Dorothy Parker. The members draped the charter in memory of the late Sister Lillian Blackwell. Mrs. Olga Chipchase, L.S.N.G., reported for the finance com- mittee. Plans were made for a Euchre Party on November 5 to which everyone is welcome. Church news Services in Carmel Presbyterian Church will commence at 10 a.m. standard time on Sunday October 26. discuss the Vanastra water system, The leak investigation carried out by the Ministry in August, repairs of leaks and use of water meters were discussed. Plant superintendent Don McLean and Plant operator John Cullen said 30 leaks were found on private properties including 10 in apartments and none were discovered from the distribution mains to property lines. Owners are to be notified to have the leaks repaired. If meters are installed new charge rates will be set to cover the new installations. Alvin Regier, Egmondville appeared before council con- cerned about the lack of street lights on George Street and the doubling of water rates by the Seaforth Public Utilities Com- mission. Regier indicated Egmondville residents who use Seaforth water pay twice as much as Seaforth residents do. He continued, "With two recent increases we now pay $180 per year for our water. I am considering drilling a well." He said he would discuss with his neighbours the Seaforth PUC rates and the possibility of private wells, "When are you going to do something about my street. I've been there 12 years and nothing has been done. In his final statement Regier suggested Egmondville residents "May be better off if Seaforth took over our area." There are presently only 14 children enrolled at the Vanastra day care centre and the capacity is for 34.
