Bulldozers appeared on the
scene Thursday afternoon and
construction began on a new
addition to the Nairn Mennonite
Church,
A two storey construction will
be joined to the east side of the
present building and will consist
of a large fellowship hall and
space allowing for four or five
additional classrooms for Sunday
School purposes.
The fellowship hall will be
designed for various forms of
recreation and sports, as well as
providing adequate space for
banquets and large gatherings.
Before the final decision to
enlarge the present ac-
commodation was made, the
congregation voted that at least

completed by Christmas,
The present church structure
was built as early as 1881, At that
time it was St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church. The brick
church was built at that point to
replace a frame structure built in
the year 1872 on the same site
which had been destroyed by
lightning in 1880.

Film deals
with children
By JOY SCHEIFELE
By watching children at play it
is possible to get close to un-
derstanding their feelings and
attitudes. When the Ailsa Craig
Take-A-Break group met on
October 7 they viewed a film,
"The Serious Business of Play"
in order to get a better grasp on
the role play takes in the child's
life.
The film dealt with the im-
portance of play for the pre-
schooler along with the necessity
of organized play used in nursery
school and kindergarten
classes, A discussion followed
under the direction of Public
Health Nurse Mrs., Margaret
Steeper of the Middlesex-London
District Health Unit.
The subject for the October 21
meeting will be "Care of House
Plants". A representative of
Austin Greenhouses will be
present to give advice and
suggestions on the subject. The
group will meet at the former
Ailsa Craig Public School bet-
ween 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. and
mothers with preschool children
are always welcome. Babysitting
is provided at the school.
It was announced at the
meeting that Mrs. Dorothy
McAlpine was the winner of the
Holly Hobby doll at the Parkhill
Fair.
to the city until it became ap-
parent that the Presbyterian
could no longer continue and in
January 1947 the St. Andrews
Presbyterian Church formally
closed and its membership of
twenty eight persons became
part of the Ailsa Craig
Presbyterian congregation.
Later the church building was
purchased by a group of Men-
nonite families who moved into
the community, and the Nairn
Mennonite Church was
established using the church
structure for worship and
fellowship.
