Cattle beast struck in one of eight accidents in area Lucan One of eight accidents in- vestigated this week by officers of the Lucan detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police in- volved a cattle beast. The animal was struck at about 10 p.m. Sunday on Highway 7, just east of Elginfield by a vehicle driven by Marguerite Steinbacher, London. Constable W.T. Hodgins set damages at $1,150. An earlier Sunday crash at 7 a.m. occurred when a vehicle driven by William Morrison, London left Concession 6 in London township about a mile east of Highway 4 and struck a fence. Constable J.A. Wilson listed damages at $450. Two drivers suffered minor injuries Saturday afternoon when Ears and eyes Explorer theme Eighteen girls were present when Mrs. Don O'Neil installed new officers for the Lucan- Clandeboye Explorers. Tami McRoberts is the head explorer and Jaqui Green, her assistant. Mrs. Froats explained to the Red Star girls what it means to be an Explorer. The worship theme was ears and eyes by Terri McRoberts and Lori Riley and each girl was given a framed picture of prayer and purpose to memorize. The second and third year girls under Mrs. O'Neil began an exploration called getting along with their peers. Next expedition will be October 20 when the girls will learn about United Nations International Childrens Emergency Fund and boxes will be given out for them to collect door-to-door. This is a very busy group and we were fortunate indeed to be able to obtain their services for this return University Hospital, London following an accident on Mid- dlesex County road 47, just south of the Roman Line Friday evening at 11.20 p,m. Driver William Hudson and passengers Tammy Peckham, Cheryl Gricken and Keith Evan suffered injuries ranging from cuts and bruises to fractures and concussions, Investigating officer W.T. Hodgins said the vehicle driven by Hudson left the roadway and rolled over in a field. He listed damages at $1,300. Friday afternoon at 1.35 p.m. Constable N.A. Campbell listed damages at $1,400 when vehicles driven by Peter Reschke and William Wiseman, both of Granton collided. The mishap occurred on County Road 23, just south of Granton. Both drivers suffered slight injuries and Wiseman was taken to hospital in London by Lucan Ambulance Service. Tuesday at 5. p.m. a collision on Concession 15 of London township at the Cameron sideroad involved vehicles driven by Michael Staniforth, RR 2, Denfield and Shirley Ryan, RR 1, Lucan, Constable N.A. Campbell estimated damages at $900. Only $35 in damages were sustained Tuesday morning when a vehicle being operated by David Smith, Lucan backed into a parked vehicle on William Street in Lucan. And here is the news you have been waiting all summer to hear. Branch 540 fall and winter 1975-76 mixed sports commences on Tuesday, October 28. There will be shuffle board, darts, cribbage and euchre. It is not necessary to participate in all four sports only the ones you wish. At the close of the season a gala banquet is held for the presen- tation of awards followed by a dance. Just loads of fun for each and every member. Middlesex County Board of Education this week agreed to support an all-Ontario basketball tournament at Strathroy District Collegiate Institute and Medway High School in March 1976. The decision was made in response to a request from Vaughan Mac- Pherson of the Strathroy school staff, Mr. MacPherson appeared before the Board asking it to pay half of the $1,000 needed for of- ficials' fees and also asking the board to waive its policy on payment of fees for the use of schools. The Board agreed to both requests. The tournament, sponsored by the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations, will bring together the twelve top teams from Ontario's secondary schools. Also regarding Physical Education, the Board approved transportation, at $23.00 per week, for pupils of Grades 7 and 8 at Adelaide School to go once a week to use the new gymnasium t East Williams School. Adelaide does not have, at the present time, adequate indoor Physical Education quarters. The board also decided to offer for sale to the Township of West Williams the building and property of West Williams School at an appraised value of $40,000 after offering it to school boards and publicly supported post- secondary education institutions as required by the Ontario Ministry of Education. The school will be closed when classes move to the new Parkhill-West Williams Public School now Plow match set, Saturday The annual Middlesex County plowing match will be held Saturday on the farm of Theo Gysbers at Lot 28, Concession 12 in London township. The Gysbers farm is located about a mile west and north pf Ilderton on the Denfield sideroad. Special events will include special farm machinery displays sponsored by various farm equipment dealers; warden and reeves plowing class and a walking plow contest. There will be nine plowing classes including specials for juniors and ladies and a home plowing competition open to farm boys and girls residents of Middlesex who are 20 years of age or under as of November 1, 1975. Saturday's plowing com- petitions get underway at 10 a.m, under construction in Parkhill. In other business, the board approved continuation of student aide programs in which secon- dary school students, under supervision of teachers, help elementary school pupils in such ways as tutoring individuals, working with small groups, and reading and discussing stories. Approximately 12 students at Strathroy District Collegiate Institute have said they are terested in doing this at Colborne Street, Southdale, and W. G. MacDonald Schools. At North Middlesex District High School, four students plan to help at Parkhill-West Williams Public School. In both cases, the program is scheduled so the secondary school students do not miss any of their own classes. Finally, in response to a request from Mount St. Joseph Academy, trustees agreed to permit Academy teachers to use some of the films and other audio- visual materials from the Board's media centre as long as Council calls drain tender Biddulph council at the latest meeting approved the engineering report on the Stanley municipal drain and instructed clerk Austin Hodgins to advertise for tenders for construction. Council received written ap- proval from the Ontario Municipal Board for the Biddulph zoning bylaw. The Ministry of Transportation and Communications will be asked to approve an additional road expenditure for 1975 in the amount of $22,000. A resolution from Middlesex County attempting to establish the county as a federal riding was 'supported, Building permits were ap- proved for William Grace, Lot 19, Concession 8, a silo; Ray Mills, Lot 1, Concession 1, a house and Frank Vereyken, Lot 22, Con- cession 7, an implement shed. Senior club to go bowling Members of .the Lucan Senior Citizens Club paid tribute to a deceased member, Hilson (Ford) Grose, with a few minutes silence at their meeting Thur. sday'afternoon, Members agreed to provide luncheon following the service. Roy Stewart of Napanee, grandfather of Stanley Yallup, delighted members with several readings, a quiz and a singsong. During the business portion of the meeting, chaired by president Muriel Cobleigh, the date to entertain the Ailsa Craig club was confirmed for Thursday, October 30 in Holy Trinity Anglican Lower Hall. Members and guests are invited to attend in costume, Birthday members included Margaret Kelly, Alex Young, Bill Salter and Clare Lewis. A memorial book is to be purchased for the club. Bowling will commence as soon as the alleys are ready.
