An array of atItuMn leaves,
fruits and vegetables made a
colourful setting for the
Thanksgiving service in the
United Church on Sunday mor-
ning. The pots of mums and floral
arrangements were placed in the
church by Mr. & Mrs. Harvey
Smith in memory of Harvey's
parents, the late Mr. and Mrs.
Albert Smith.
Rev, Beaton chose the
"Healing of the Ten Lepers" as a
Biblical background for his
Thanksgiving sermon in which he
stressed the importance of giving
thanks.
The choir sang an anthem and
Mrs, Ray Mills was the organist
for the service.
UCW
Centralia UCW held their
October meeting in the
schaplroom of the church on
Thtday, October 9.
Mrs. Frank Hicks opened
devotions with a poem "Thanks."
The hymn "We plough the fields
and scatter" was sung, Mrs. Ken
Greb read a poem "Our Thanks
be to God." Mrs. Frank Hicks
gave a Thanksgiving prayer,"
Mrs. Russel Wilson sang a solo
accompanied by Mrs. Charlie
Railings.
Rev. Stuart gave an interesting
informative talk on method and
what books to use for Bible
study .
Hymn "Come ye thankful
people come" was sung by all and
Rev, Stuart pronounced the
benediction,
Mrs. June Essery gave a
reading to open the business.
Reports were heard and ap-
proved. The committee in charge
of the Pot luck dinner after the
church anniversary on October 26
is Mrs. Harvey Smith, Mrs. Sam
Skinner, Mrs. Bob Blair, Mrs.
Ken Greb and Mrs. Bill Essery.
Lunch was served by the
committee including a surprise
birthday cake for Mrs, Harvey
Smith,
