I worked for a one-man firm for about nine months but
this came to an end very abruptly when my boss got into
business difficulties and left the country in a great hurry for
the land of his birth, the U,S.A,
The last two cheques which he paid me (amounting to
almost $200) have both bounced. This was bad enough,
but when I made application for Unemployment In-
surance, I seem to have run up against a brick wall,
because so far I have received absolutely nothing. I have
filled in countless forms but have no separation certificate,
which is not my fault.
I am working again now for a different firm, but could
still use the money which I think I'm entitled to.
Can you please get the Unemployment Insurance Com-
mission to quit stalling, and send me a cheque?
This was a most unusual case because your ex-boss left the
country in such a hurry, and this meant, according to the U.I.C.
that there were no employment records. They insist that they i
were not guilty of "stalling on your claim," as you had thought, 1
but that it took time to check out all the statements made by you.
' They have finally accepted your information yo ur in fide
and have now issued you a cheque to cover u
full period of

I have tried almost everything I know to stop smoking
but so far haven't been very successful.
A friend of a friend has told me about something called
"worry beads." He claims that many people including
Arabs use them to relieve tension. Unfortunately he hasn't
a clue as to where I can buy them and frankly I've never
ever heard of them, but I'm sure willing to give them a try
if "IMPACT" can enlighten me, as to where to obtain
them,
You are not alone in not having heard about "worry beads"
as we here must also plead ignorant. However, after some en-
quiries we have been informed that the Athens Book Store
located on Monroe Street in Detroit, currently has them for sale.
Apparently they have quite a large selection, ranging in price
from $2 to $15 for a large decorative string.
From what we have been told we gather that the bead finger-
ing habit is over 3,000 years old and got its start in the Orient.
It seems that the noise made, when the beads clack together,
helps to calm the user and acts as an outlet for nervous energy.
If they work for you please let us know, as the writer too
would like to kick the smoking habit.
