Page 10A Times-Advocate, October'2, 1975 Huron-Perth Presbytery meeting Ministers bunny hop in contemporary worshi The Huron-Perth Presbytery of the United Church met at Egmondville recently and a major item of the morning business was the introduction of new Members of Presbytery, Ten new ministers were inducted or installed this summer, These are: Rev. Edward Baker, installed at Walton; Rev. Wilena Brown, installed at Bluevale; Rev. Michael Boulger, inducted at Monkton; Rev. Ross Man convicted on weapon charge John Clark Webster of Exeter, charged with possession of a dangerous weapon, was con- victed in Exeter court on Wed- nesday despite a not guilty plea. Three officers from the Exeter OPP detachment testified in court that they saw Webster holding a razor to the throat of his mother during an incident in Zurich in August. Police testified that Webster demanded a gun and a car. He was later ap- prehended and disarmed near Varna and his mother, Martha Webster was released unharmed. Provincial Judge John Dunlop, in convicting Webster, remanded him in custody until October 6 for sentencing. He ordered a pre- sentence report be obtained. School bus zone allows passing With the placing of school bus zone loading signs on Gidley street in front of South Huron District High School motorists may now pass school buses parked along the north curb of the street. The only areas where vehicles may pass school buses with signals activated are in properly designated loading zones. Cumming, inducted at Centennial. Stratford; Rev. John Mac- Donald installed at Fordwich, Mr. R. McMullen, Student Supply, was introduced by Presbytery to Milbank. In welcoming the new ministers, chairman Rev. Bert Daynard, Staffa pointed out that Huron-Perth is one of the largest Presbyteries In the United Church and the most totally rural of London Conference, New lay delegates were then introduced by their ministers, who told Presbytery a bit about them. They were an impressive group of eleven. Obituaries were read for Rev. Garnet Potter of Auburn who passed away on June 3 at Auburn and Rev, J. Wilfred Hird, who passed away on July 28. Presbytery also regretted the death of Stephen Dundas, Presbytery delegate from Crediton. Rev. Barry Robinson of Thames Road-Elimville charge led a contemporary worship service which included dancing in the church. His theme was the importance of Christians being playful as well as prayerful. New happy Christian songs were sung. As the Presbytery formed a line behind him he led the "bunny hop" down the aisle toward lunch, to the tune of "Lord of the Dance." After lunch Alun Hughes of the United Church Publishing House in Toronto, spoke of the work of handling the thousands of items they now carry. The Don Mills location has 13,000 square feet of space. He stated that they try to process all orders within 48 hours but delays in mail sometimes cause frustration. Mr. Hughes a former banker, served the Church in Kenya teaching Church Treasurers their jobs, before coming to his present post of general manager of the House last year. Rev. Cecil Brenn, who is ser- ving as a replacement for the convalescing Ev, Smith of the London Conference office, spoke on the effectiveness of the commitment plan as a steward- ship tool. He has just completed work on the 50th anniversary celebrations. The following committees met: Mission in Canada, chaired by Rev. Rea Grant; World Outreach and Inter-Church Relation by Rev. George Ball; Ministry, Personnel and Education by Rev. Stanley MacDonald; Com- munications by Rev. L. Lewis; Finance by Rev. Donald Beck; Stewardship by Rev. Mervyn Reuber and Overview by Rev. Donald Deas. Reports of these committees included the following facts: The London Conference World Mission Festival in St. John's Stratford on September 21, was a great success with an over- flowing church, exciting music and a superb address by Dr. Bob McClure. The Belgrave Men's Choir, directed by Rev. John Roberts, led the singing and sang two anthems. The committee in charge, under the Conference chairman, Rev, Maurice Francis, was commended and asked to consider another such event. It was then pointed out that other smaller events might also be organized using local people who have had missionary ex- perience or visits to other lands. The committee was asked to circulate a list of such people to the congregations, so anyone knowing such a person was asked to pass the name along to Rev. George Ball. There will be a 2 day seminar on "Wise Land Use . . A Christian Responsibility" at Brucefield United Church on November 20 and 21. Speakers will include Dr. Allan Churchill, past-president of London Con- ference and William Heine, Editor, The London Free Press on Thursday November 20; Mr, Gary Davidson, Huron County Planner, M. Hugh Edighoffer, M.P. for Perth and Mr. Doug Fisher, Executive Secretary for London Conference on Friday, November 21. There will be time for discussion and consideration of the question "What Can You Do?" The UCW has planned eight Rallies. These will be at Atwood, September 30, 7:30 p.m. with speaker Mr, Gerald Stephanson; at Thamesview October 2, 7:30 p.m.; speaker Mrs. Eaton of Bangladesh; Sebringville, October 6, 7 p.m, speaker Rev. D. Deas; Wesley-Willis, Clinton, October 7, 6:30 p.m.; Crediton, October 15 9:45 a.m. speaker Mrs. Galway; Zion West, October 15, speaker Rev, Maurice Francis; Holmesville, October 21 10 a,m, speaker Mrs. Ross Shields; Kurtzville, October 22, 7 p.m. speaker Helen Allen. The UCW was 10,81 percent over the top in their givings to the Mission and Service Fund and were applauded for it. The Presbytery as a whole has remitted 45 percent of its ob- jective, An increase of 10 percent is needed to stay level with the rise of inflation. The Resource Centre will be re- opened at Ontario Street Church in Clinton on October 1. Appointments may be made by phoning the new Director Rev. On November 18 afternoon and evening, there will be a Resources Review Day, when the current material available for Christian Education and Adults will be on display films will be previewed and other helps for Church leaders presented. The Lay School ofTheology will enter its third year with classes at both Clinton and Listowel. The main course at Clinton 'will be "Saint Paul His Life and Let- ters" taught by Dr. Ross Crosby, Discussion will follow on his lecture, led by Rev. Reuber or an elective may be taken on "Communicating Your Faith Through. AudioVisual Materials." This will be led by the Presbytery's leadership development resource team under Mrs. Cora Thistle of Thamesview. At Listowel the main course is "The Church in the Thinking of Jesus," taught by Rev. Wesley Ball, There will be discussion following with Mr. Ball. A course in "Man's Relationship with the Environment" led by Rev, Bert Daynard will also be available. Singtime is returning to CKNX on October 19, Notices of Church events are welcomed. The Monkton congregation was given permission to sell its manse and buy a new one. Ministers were told by Rev, August Meacham, personnel officer for London Conference, that, if they wished to claim the 10 cent rebate on gas for their work, they should get a claim form from the post office and keep their receipts. Candidate for the ministry, Bill Richards was certified to St. Andrew's College in Scotland. He has servedthe AnglicanChurch at Wawa for the summer months. Miss Marilyn Day of Stratford who represented Huron-Perth in the 50th Anniversary Youth Exchange program will appear at a later date to tell of her ex- . periences in Korea, The next meeting of the Presbytery will be at St. John's Stratford on November 25. Durand. The bride is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Webb, R.R.2, Zurich and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Regier, Zurich. Attending the bride were Sandra Webb, Linda Hendrick, sisters of the bride, Louise Regier, sister of the groom, and Ruth Williams. The groom's attendants were Bob Hendrick, David Stark and Stephen Stark. Ushering the guests were Brad Oke and Toni Stark.
