How does one fight the government and win?
For some time now I have been eagerly awaiting the
arrival of an Unemployment Insurance cheque which is
due to me, but the weeks go by and still no cheque in the
mail. I have phoned long distance on several occasions to
see what is causing the delay but 1 just don't seem to be
able to get any kind of satisfaction. I've been told to phone
back while they look into my claim and now I'm told that a
cheque was mailed out and must have gone astray.
I desperately need this money but am now so frustrated
that I just don't know what to do next. Any suggestions
from you as to how to successfully, communicate with the
Unemployment Insurance people will be gratefully receiv-
ed.
Ottawa has been notified by the London office that the
cheque they mailed you is either lost, stolen or strayed. They
claim that no reply has as yet been received from Ottawa but
they point out that this could take considerable time as all
aspects of the cheques' whereabouts must be determined before
a duplicate cheque's can be issued. It's not a question of them
doubting your word, but a thorough investigation has to be
made to make sure mainly, that the original cheque has not been
cashed by anyone else.

judge notecrthat many people would possibly differ with his choices due to the fine showing that left little to
choose between the top entrants. Bevan Shapton, right, had the tap calf, while John Kinsmen, left, was plac-
ed second, The showmanship winners in the centre are Brian Pym and Barry Miller. Pym was judged top

I am writing to you in the hope that you may be able to
help my elderly aunt ( who is a widow) with a problem she
has. It concerns the shipping of some belongings by Cana-
dian Pacific.
'• When her goods arrived she signed a release form
without first unpacking, and this' form that she signed
states that all goods arrived in satisfactory condition and
that nothing is missing. Unfortunately this was not the
case in , this instance as there was one box missing, con-
taining dishes and some other odds and ends, also two
bed-slats are missing, plus a vase has been broken and a
small table badly scratched.
I phoned for her, tight away, but the railway claims no
responsibility.
Now I realize she was wrong to sign the release papers
so hastily, but she is an old age pensioner and I don't
believe she was fully aware of just what she was signing.
Is there anything that can be done for her at this late date?
The CP, graciously sent someone to visit your aunt to help her
fill out a claims form. Since then they placed a tracer to try and
locate the missing articles. Since that has failed to turn them up,
they have paid the full amount of your aunt's claim, and she now
has a cheque for $85.00.

Enclosed is a photostat copy of a cheque I sent to Poster
World in Winnipeg for delivery of some posters. That was,
as you can see by the date, away back on June 10. Since
then all they have done is to cash the original cheque, and
- so far I have received absolutely nothing in return, not
even an acknowledgement of any kind, so any help you
can give me to speed up delivery of these missing posters
will be appreciated as my patience is wearing
thin, . , thank you.
On receipt of your letter, "IMPACT" contacted a Western
"Open Line " columnist and made him aware of your problem.
We don't exactly know what transpired from there, but we do
know that since then the posters have arrived safely at our
reader's Woodham address, so once again, "All's well, that
end's well."
