Hensall sewers okayed
despite increased costs
Despite a sizeable increase
over the estimated costs, Hensall
council has given the go-ahead on
a new sewage system for the
village.
The system will be owned and
MR. AND MRS. ROY McCI4LOCH
operated by the Ministry of the
Environment and will be paid for
through utility bills over the next
40 years.
Total cost of the project is non
estimated at $2,000,118, about
$325,000 over the original
estimates. Major cause of the
increase is said to be interest in
financing.
Presently Herisall water users
are paying an average of $39 a
year for water. With a 66 foot lot
in the village, wrier the new
estimates it will cost 'about $143.
Reeve John Baker, com-
menting on the increase in costs,
said that the village must have
sewers and it was unlikely any
further delay would do anything
but increase the cost even more.
Two tenders for the project are
being studied by the Ministry of
the Environment. The lowest bid
on the project was $1,479,627 from
Bre-Aar Excavating of London.
The second lowest was $1,538,591
from Logan Contracting of
Stratford. Bre-Aar stated they
would finish the project in 88
weeks while Logan suggested one
year completion.
