homes with their warm, at-
tractive, personal atmosphere.
The residents maintain the
homes, cook the meals and work
on projects designed to improve
facilities. A picturesque
workshop has been built at the
rear of the homes which provides
opportunity for the residents. A
greenhouse is under con-
struction. Rabbits and horses fill
the barn.
Thus a program has been
especially developed to help each
person achieve his potential
within the setting of the working
area and daily living. Each is
encouraged to reach their in-
dividual crest.

MIDWAY IN OPERATION
By JOY SCHEIFELE
An excellent crowd of several
hundreds were on hand Sunday
afternoon for the official opening
of Crestwood and Crestview
Homes at Elginfield, — and for
the 28 residents of the two homes,
it marked the official start of a
new life.
The two homes, along with its
sister home, Meadowcrest,
provide a warm, family at-
mosphere for persons who have
been under treatment at the
London Psychiatric Hospital, but
no longer require the hospital
setting. For various reasons they
are unable to return home.
Instead they find their homes
with the "Crest Families", which
On graduating from Goshen, he
served as assistant pastor at the
Holdeman Mennonite Church in
Wakarus, Indiana, for the next
four years and as interim pastor
at the North Lima Mennonite
Church in North Lima, Ohio,
during the summer of 1964.
From 1965-70 he served as
pastor to the Summit Christian
Fellowship at Barberton, Ohio,
before taking the position of
Director of the Letcher County
Family Services at Whitesburg in
Kentucky.
He also earned his Th.M. in
pastoral theology at Crozier
Theological Seminatry, Chester
PA in 1969. He was ordained to
the ministry in 1967 at Summitt
Christian Fellowship in the Ohio
Conference of the Mennonite
Church.
His wife, Fern, who holds both
her R.N, and P.H.N., was born in
Lancaster County in Penn-
sylvania.
The Brunners have three
children, who in themselves tell
much of the family's movements.
Wendy, aged 10 was born in
Indiana, Marta aged 8 was born
in Ohio, while five year old Daryl
was born in Kentucky.
The family is presently
residing in the Baptist manse in
Ailsa Craig.
have been carefully developed to
provide them with a meaningful
life-style, Each individual here is
given opportunity to contribute to
a life of greater self-sufficiency
under the care and guidance of
houseparents.
Wilson Hodgins, reeve of
Biddulph township welcomed the
new families officially into the
community.
Mrs. Ruth Bacon, chairman of
the board of directors briefly
outlined the Crest concept. She
emphasized that each and every
individual has a birthright to be
part of a community and to be
encouraged to use their abilities
to reach their individual crest.
"Each of us needs someone to
walk beside us to help us achieve
that crest of our ability", she
stressed.
"Service is the rent you and I
pay for our space here on earth",
Mrs. Bacon continued.
In recognition of her Own
dedicated service to the
program, Mrs. Bacon was
presented with a piece of luggage
from the permanent staffs of the
three homes following her ad-
dress.
Dr. D. M. Wickware, Associate
Professor, Department of
Psychiatry at the University of
Western Ontario and president of
the London Academy of Medicine
was the guest speaker.
He briefly spoke on the topic
"Challenge and Change", con-
cluding his message with the
quote, "There are no happy
lives, only happy days",
The crowd then proceeded to
the fruit orchard near the back of
the 20 acres connected with the
two homes. The orchard was
officially dedicated by the
residents themselves as they
placed plaques bearing their own
names under a sign heading the
inscription, "Friendship
Orchard".
A plaque engraved with the
names of the eight local citizens
who serve on the Board of
Directors was unveiled. Resting
between the two homes in a
mound, it is set with the crest
symbol outlined in attractive
stones. Mrs. Wilfred Schlegel, on
behalf of her husband who was
unable to be present due to ill
health, offered the prayer of
dedication.
Guests were free to tour the two
"We are very pleased to be a
part of a small community",
Dave Brunner, the new minister
at the Nairn Mennonite Church
commented this week. "We
really appreciate the friendliness
and warm-heartedness found in
small towns".
The Brunners arrived the first
week in September from
Whitesburg, Kentucky where
Dave was employed as Director
of the Letcher County Family
Services. In his new position, he
will be the first full time pastor at
the Nairn Church.
Born on what was mainly a
dairy farm in Quakertown,
Pennsylvania, Dave speaks
fondly of his boyhood. "My
chores centered mainly around
the care of the chickens — 10,000
of them!", he claims. "Helping
with the hay and grain harvest
was also a big part of my life on
the farm".
He earned his B.A. in sociology
at Goshen College at Goshen,
Indiana. It was while studying at
college that he met his wife, the
former Fern Graybill.
A heavy migration of United
Empire Loyalists from the
United States to Nova Scotia and
New Brunswick occurred in the
early 1780's.
