HAROLD DAVIS KIRKTON Cold breezes blowing in- termittent rain showers kept attendance at Saturday's Kirkton Fall Fair to about $00 according to secretary Mrs. June Robinson. All outside activities although slowed down a bit by the adverse weather were completed and inside exhibits received lots of YIS CHINESE GARDEN Main St. Exeter PHONE 235 ,0464 attention from fair goers. The Mitchell Legion marching band and the St. Marys Starlette Strutters band headed the parade which featured a large number of youngsters on bicycles and irikes. The best decorated bicycles in the parade were ridden by Karen and Darlene Atkinson, Sandy Williams, Jeff Francis and Beth Williams. Taking top honours in the decorated tricycle division were Leanne Bickel', Carol. Willis, Lisa Ulch and Michael Fletcher. Fit* prize for the best decorated float went to the Kirkton Women's Institute followed by South Perth Cen- tennial School and Lana Marshall. and Susan Sehaefer, South Perth Centennial School entered the best decorated car, Monday to Thursday — 10:00 a.m, to 8:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday — 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m, Sunday — 4:00 p,m. to 8:00 p.m. received in elementary school competitions from South Perth and Usborne Central Schools. Winners in the various grades in writing were Deanna Lindsay (SP), Jeff Francis, U; Lisa Rundle, U; Sherry Bradley, SP; Laurie Simpson, SP; Donna Pront, U; Cheryl Brine, SP; Jane. Pearson, SP. All art winners in art were from South Perth. They were Heidi Hayden, Rich Vanderschot, Lori Pearn, Rosanne St. Denis, Tom Bibby, Kong Son, Pat Tazier and Robbie Bearss, Taking honours in crafts were Kathleen Cade, Cindy Arm- strong, Dale Robinson, Jeff Weersink, Sallah Grunton, Lynn Robinson and Debra Corbett. Other winners were — Flowers - Suzanne Jaques, Andy Cade, Donna Rae Lang, Kathleen Cade. Baking Terri Brintnell, Sandy Williams, Kim Brintnell, Fruits and vegetables - Cindy Tazier, Linda Evans, Jim Willis, John Heard, Murray Robinson, Sharon Wiles, Susan Schaefer. 1 Photography - Susan Schaefer, Janet Parkinson, Roger Hendry, Janet Parkison. Horticulture - Patricia Willis, Janet Parkinson, Sandy Williams, The standings in the senior dairy section were Alfons Weersink, Joan Heard, Brian Thomson, Bob Simpson, Don Mills, Gerald Weersink and David Spence. Junior winners were Steve Willis, Heather 13ilyea, Norm Bilyea, Calvin Rodd, Brian McCorquodale and Bob Cowdrey. Winners in the horse club competition were Doug Cook, Norman Bilyea and Don Thomson. Mrs. Lorne Fell, RR 2, Staffa won the Simpson Sears special with.the most points in the baking division while Mrs. Harry Burgin, Kirkton topped all exhibitors in canned products. Mrs. Joyce Strahan was tops in the three classes of flowers and house plants. Rosemary Schaefer was the winner in class 46 home department and Mrs, Cliff Stephens was tops in class 45. Fred McClymont of Varna took most of the prizes in fruits while Allan Hern was best in grains and seeds, The tube painting winner was Mable Petersen and Gary Urquhart won in crafts and hobbies. A large number of entries were Next in line came the Klrkton Market and the Blanshard Midget ball team. The best clowns were Stan Christie, Lynn. Robinson and Connie and Steve Francis. In the horse and rider category the winners were Scott Brintnell, Danny Shute and Mary LOU Bickel'. The fair was officially opened by president Gerald 13rintnell, Huron MPP Jack Riddell and Perth MP Bill Jarvis. A bike rodeo was staged With help from OPP officers from the Sebringville detachment. Paul Bern and Jeff Ratcliffe were the senior winners while best in in- termediate were Mike Brine, Steve Brookshaw and Paul Robinson. Heading the prize list in the junior section were Leonard Williams, Terry Simpson, Jeff Brookshaw, Russell Nesbitt, Steve Simpson and Barbara Jaques. In the beef 4-H calf club Kirk Blackler exhibited the top senior calf followed by Murray Switzer who was also the showmanship winner and Danny Bearss. Robbie Bearss was the junior winner. All attended the Decoration service at the Avonbank Cemetery and were guests at the home of Mrs. Howe's brother, Mr. & Mrs. Campbell Stevenson. It was a dual surprise for the Rowe's, Their other daughter Carolyn and her husband Mr. & Mrs. Jim Spearman flew from Vancouver to join in the festivities. Mrs. Rowe is a sister of Mrs. Lightfoot and Jack and Bill Essery. Mr. & Mrs, Rowe are former Centralia residents. FRED BOWDEN CENTRALIA Dan Shoebottom, Wendy Moore and George of Parry Sound were weekend guests with Mr. & Mrs. Ray Shoebottom and Mary. On Saturday evening all were en- tertained by the Johnson family at Shilo Christian Education Centre on Fanshawe Park Road at a shower honouring Dan and Wendy on their approaching marriage, The evenings en- tertainment was arranged by Mrs. Alan Johnson and Mrs. Roy Johnson. , On Sunday, Mrs. Richard Shoebottom, Mrs. John Thomas and Mary Shoebottom en- tertained the ladies of the Shoebottom family at the for- mer's home and Wendy was again honoured with a shower of gifts. The Messengers with their leaders Mrs. M. Buswell and Mrs. H. Smith held their first meeting of the season in the schoolroom of the church on Sunday morning. The meeting opened with a hymn and the messengers motto. Mrs. Smith told the story of "Olga and Vasya," following this story games were played. The ladies enjoyed browsing in the old church renovated by Shirley and Ross Smith with their creative ideas. Mrs. Ken Greb read a poem on Thursday to open the devotionals. Mrs. Earl Haist gave a prayer on September and read the poem "The Eternal Things". Com- ments were given by Mrs. Ken Greb on the beauty of the earth in all seasons at this time Shirley and Ross served homemade scones, jams, jellies and mar- malade, coffee and tea. Mrs, Bill Essery read a poem. "Eloquence of God." The presbytery meeting was announced for October 15 at Crediton.
