Bleak picture
for RAP year
RAP chairman Jack Under..
wood presented his group's bleak
financial picture to Exeter
council, Monday.
He said that since the an-
nouncement last week that their
deficit would be close to $19,000,
some new figures had been
brought to light that suggested
the figure may not be quite that
high by the end of the year.
He said he hoped RAP had
shown the situation to be worse
than it may be and that there
were some areas where they can
"shore it up a bit."
Underwood said RAP members
felt strongly that they had not
been irresponsible in their budget
and pointed out some of the
problems that arose over which
they had no control.
Councillor Barb Bell
• questioned what obligation
people had to live within a
budget,
"There's no answer to that
now," Mayor Bruce Shaw stated,
Underwood noted that unless
council assumed the debt, RAP
would have to clean up their fixed
costs and "shut down."
He made no request for funds
at the meeting, but Mayor Shaw
urged him to "exercise utmost
austerity" noting that council's
budget had already been over-
spent $23,000 for sweeper and
"there's not much money at
home base either."
WINS AT WESTERN FAIR — One of the numerous local horse show winners at the recent Western Fair in
London was Ripper Hancock, shown by Craig Black, RR 1, Exeter. The three year-old filly is owned jointly by
Craig Black and Ron Swartz. She is the only horse from the area entered in the Canadian National Reining
Futurity in Toronto, Thanksgiving weekend.

The committee is now open for
requests for admission. The type
of resident expected will be
higher functioning adults in their
20's or 30's who have fairly well
developed self-help skills and are
capable of being involved in the
general operation of the home.
The home is expected to be a
learning and training centre
where the residents will go to a
less supervised type of ac-
commodation such as a shared
apartment.
The committee in charge of the
residence includes Mrs. Alma

A project of the Missions and
Service committee of Exeter
United Church in Exeter is ex-
pected to become a reality by
November 1 of this year.
Committee chairman Roland
McCaffrey announced this week
that the residence for young
adults directly across Andrew
street from the church will be
open by that time.
The property was offered to the
church early in the year by its
owner Mrs. Alma Southcott for
one half the appraised value
providing it was used for com-
munity work.
The committee spent about a
year in analyzing the needs of the
community before deciding to
establish a home for retarded
young adults. The house is being
leased to the South Huron
Association for the Mentally
Retarded.
While applications for
residence in the ham are beint'
accepted by the committee it is
likely most will be trainees from
the ARC workshop at Dashwood.

commodated at one time along
with a house parent. This position

A chart section shows the
organization of provincial sports
governing bodies. A library
section is available for reference,
with a dry-copier machine on the
spot if copies of items are needed.
Pamphlets of a varying sports
nature will be displayed near the
exit.
The Travelcade also carries
portable panels which can be
easily erected outside to provide
a classroom for the clinics.
Designed to interest and en-
tertain the public in general as
they visit the van, the Travelcade
is fully equipped to upgrade the
knowledge of those attending the
clinics requested by their com-
munity.
The Ontario Sports Travelcade
can kindle the enthusiasm of the
community and encourage
everyone to participate more
fully in sports. The person not
now connected with a sport may
be persuaded by it to join one of
your community programs.
The individual already in-
volved can certainly learn more
about it—for example, improving
the backstroke, delivering the
shot-put, refining the jump-shot.
The major thrust of the
Travelcade clinic is to raise the
level of expertise for coaches,
officials, executives and trainers
of any given sport. The contents
and dual style of the Travelcade -
van plus clinics - will provide the
flexible format needed to reach
all age groups in the community,
and make their lives a little
richer for having been there.
The Traveleade will have five
staff members to provide
assistance within the van and at
exterior clinic sites. As one of the
members, the technician will be
prepared to take the portapac
unit along to a clinic (for
example, diving), film a
demonstration, remove the
cassette and immediately show it
to a group of coaches to illustrate
the fault or excellence in that.
