The meeting opened with the 4- H creed followed by the election of officers who are; president, Ruth Jeffery, vice-president, Mary Jane Templeman, secretary Ruth Harburn, assistant secretary Ruth Chappel, press reporter Bev Templeman. Telephone girls are Karen Mahon and Jane Ross. Record book covers are the responsibility of Michelle Riley, Jill Norris and Marion Smale. Meetings will be held each Saturday morning. Mrs. Jeffery gave a brief treasurers report. Mrs.Vivian discussed the requirements for this project and the materials suitable for the chosen articles. Mrs. Vivian showed how primary colours form secondary colours. She also held various quizzes for zip colours. It was decided to call the club "Staffa Nifty Needlers" Mrs. Jeffery explained our home assignments. & Mrs. Cameron Vivian and Mr. & Mrs. Carter Kerslake are enjoying a motor trip to the western provinces. Bob and Hazel Sadler, John and Roberta Templeman were guests at the Kennedy-King wedding in the Sacred Heart Church in Teeswater on Friday evening. Gordon and Jean Parsons, Mike Parsons and Mary Jane Templeman were guests at the Kilpatrick-Moore wedding in Toronto on Friday., Mrs. Darlene Norris of Brampton visited on the weekend with Mrs. Sam Norris and Mr. & Mrs. Bob Norris and family, Garry returning to Brampton with her after spending the summer on the farm. Mr. & Mrs. Bob Norris, Jill and Robert visited Sunday evening with Mr. & Mrs. John Burleigh and family of Goderich. Shirley Miller, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John Miller, placed first in the step-dancing competition at Family Paradise on Sunday. By MRS. E. SUMMERS GRANTON At the United Church, Rev. McInally conducted the worship. Her sermon dealt with time, and was entitled "The time is now" taken from the Gospel of St. Mark 1 - verse 15. "The time is fulfilled and the Kingdom of God is at hand, repent ye, and believe the Gospel", the time is now to prepare ourselves for the coming of Christ, says Rev. Mclnally. St. Thomas Anglican Church Mrs. Mary Mills, the newly appointed Deacon of St, Thomas Anglican Church was in charge of the morning service, The sermon was taken from the Gospel of St. John Chapter 10 dealing with the text "Christ the Good Shepherd", I am come that they might have life, and they might have it more abundantly. A.C.W. meeting The A.C,W. held their Sep- tember meeting last Wednesday evening in the church hall. The president Mrs. Jack Noon opened with prayers followed by the Member's prayer and .Lord's Prayer said in unison. Mrs. Kenneth Hodgins read the scripture lesson taken from Luke 14, The Parable of the Great Feast. Hymn 321 "Thy Kingdom Come 0 God" was sung. The Roll Call was answered with members handing in what they made for their summer project. Several items of business were discussed. The president closed the meeting with prayer. After an hour of quilting,- a delicious lunch was served by Mrs. Etta Carson. U.C.W. meetings Unit One met at the home of Mrs. Robert Hardie on Wed- nesday afternoon. Mrs. Elmer Summers presided, led in wor- ship and conducted the business. The meeting opened with a hymn, "Go Labor, Spend, And Be Spent", followed by the scripture. The meditation "School Days for young and old" was read and the worship service closed with prayer. Among items of business discussed were plans for a concert and dessert tea which will be sponsored by the General U.C.W. This is to take place October 26 at church. A program entitled "The Man For Others" was presented by Mrs. Glen Jameson and Mrs. Austin Hobbs, A discussion followed. Of great interest, especially to the older members, were two books brought to the meeting by Mrs. Hobbs, one containing the attendance records of Granton Methodist Church for the years 1869-1870 and another "Our Jubilee 1869-1919," The meeting closed with the benediction and grace. The hostess was assisted in serving lunch by conveners Mrs. C, B. Westman and Miss M. By MRS. WILLIAM ROHDE THAMES ROAD The September meeting of the United Church Women was held on Monday evening with 22 members present. The programme convener, Mrs. Barry Jeffery, opened the meeting with the Call To Worship followed by prayer. Members sang the hymn "0 Master Let Me Walk With Thee", The Scripture lesson was read by Mrs. Barry Robinson and Mrs. Jeffery gave the meditation. Mrs. Archie Etherington read "The Elder In the Miniskirt". Mrs. David Passmore read about "Dr. Margaret Strang Savage" and Mrs. Barry Robinson read "Mary Haggert Home On The Range". Mrs. Jeffery read "Women Candidates For The United Church." Members sang hymn "Take My Life and Let It Be." Mrs. Passmore and Mrs. Robinson received the offering Mrs. Lee Webber opened the business part of the meeting with a poem "A Health Prescription". Cards of thanks and letters were read and treasurer's report was given. It was announced that the Regional meeting will be held at Crediton United Church on October 15, The meeting closed by singing the hymn "The Day Thou Gayest Lord Is Ended, " and repeating the Mizpah Benedic- McNaughton. Unit (3) held their September meeting at the church on Tuesday evening. Guest speakerS". were Mr. Sc Mrs. Allan Slater, missionaries from Zambia, who illustrated the account of their work with films and slides which were of great interest to the members and their guests, Mrs. Jim Riddell presided and opened the meeting with a poem, "Somebody's Little Boy", Among the many items of business discussed were plans for decorating the church for Thanksgiving, and arrangements tion. Lunch was served by Group C under the leadership of Mrs. Arnold Cann and the hostess Mrs. Archie Etherington. Persona Is , Laura Johns, Joan Pym, Lori Sims, Barbara Miller and Sylvia Stewart are attending Waterloo University. John Miner of Port Rowan spent the weekend with Robert Bray, Mr. Robert Mayer returned home last week from St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Rohde, Danny and Tammy visited on Tuesday evening last with Mr. & Mrs. Fred Nethway of Strathroy. A large number of people from the community attended the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Rev. Hugh and Mrs. Wilson at Exeter United Church on Friday afternoon and evening. Mr. & Mrs. William Rohde and Calvin were Sunday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Rohde. David, Robbie and Richard Ballantyne of Thamesford spent the weekend with their grand- parents, Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Ballantyne. Mr. & Mrs. Dennis Duncan, Ottawa spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Jack Duncan. Joanne Bell of Russeldale spent the weekend with her grand- parents, Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Ballantyne'. for a Concert and Dessert Tea in October when the entertainment will be provided by the Treble Clef's a choir frem the South West Norfolk Pastoral charge. This project will be sponsored by the General UCW. All members of the different units will have tickets to sell. The meeting closed with the Hymn, In Christ There Is No East Or West. Mrs. Warren Gregory was .the hostess for the September meeting of Unit 4 on Wednesday evening, Mrs. Floyd Dykes presided, led in worship and conducted the business., The meeting opened with a hymn "Go Labor, Spend And Be Spent", The scripture lesson was followed by a meditation and prayer "School Days for young and Old". Mrs. Chas. Gowen and Mrs. Dykes were in charge of the program which consisted of a paper entitled "Who is Jesus, Son of Man, Son of God?, a scripture lesson and a verse from a hymn, pertaining to the program topic. Mrs. Gordon Dann and Mrs. Warren Gregory assisted the hostess to serve lunch. Unit (5) met at the home of Mrs. Lottie Jones. Mrs. Wm. Jones presided, led in worship and conducted the business. The meeting opened with a scripture reading and lesson thoughts on "Education, preparing for Life". Plans were discussed for future business including catering to a wedding anniversary on Sep- tember 19, helping with arrangements for a concert and Dessert Tea in October 26 sponsored by the General UCW, and discussion on the program for the General Meeting in October. Mrs. Garnet Baker and Mrs. William Jones were in charge of the program. Mrs. Baker read two poems "Back to School in September" and "A Bible Alphabet". Mrs. Jones gave a reading, a parody on the story "The three little pigs", with religious overtones and a poem "Step 'by Step". Everyone was asked to bring a guest to the October meeting. There will be a sale of small articles. The meeting closed with the Lord's Prayer and Grace.
