Rev. Mary Mills, recently
appointed minister of the three-
point Anglican charge of
Granton, Xirk ton arid SaintshUrY,
doesn't subscribe to the women's
Liberation doctrine.
Although she was the first
woman to be appointed a deacon
in Canada by the Anglican
Church and is now one of only
about a dozen across the entire
country, Rev, Mills feels that the
natural evolution of the place of
women within the church is a far
more sensible, and probably
successful, method of transition.
Since she graduated from
Theological Training at the
Anglican Women's Training
College, followed by graduation
from Wycliffe College, Univer-
sity of Toronto with a Licentiateof
Theology, almost 32 years ago,
Rev. Mills has found a rewarding
and fulfilling life for herself
within the church.
After receiving her Bachelor of
Arts from Queens University,
Rev. Mills went to the Peace
River District in British
Columbia where she served as a
Bishop's Messenger. In the
post, she was in charge of the
parish 'and coiled upon to take
services. Following two years on
the staff at St, Thomas Church in
Hamilton, Rev, Mills was
deaconess at Christ Church
Cathedral in Hamilton for five
years. She later was appointed
director of the Huron Church
Book Room in London for three
years,
At that point in her life, Rev.
Mills retired from active church
work, married and raised .a
family of five. Her son, Walter, is
now minister at St. James
Anglican Church in Ilespeler,
recently assuming that post after
serving in the Thedford, Grand
Bend and Greenway church, She
also has four daughters, Donna
Murray, Patricia. Wright, and
Lynda Snazel of London and
Judith Miller of Vanastra. Her
husband passed away eight years
ago.
Following her husband's death,
Rev. Mills was head of the
commercial department at
Glencoe District High School and
was made an honourary assistant
at St, John's Anglican Church in
Simcoe.
Rev. Mills said she was in-
