The Exeter RAP committee
will be asked to meet with council
and developer Len Veri in an
attempt to choose an appropriate
piece of land as the five percent
donation required to be made by
Veri in his subdivision adjacent
to the mobile home park north of
the river.
A letter was received from
Veri's solicitor pointing out that
this matter was all that was
holding up the final approval of
the subdivision agreement
between council and the
developer.
Veri was in attendance at
Tuesday's meeting and said he
had taken for granted that
council would want cash set-
tlement in lieu of land as they had
when he was given approval for a
small five-lot subdivision.
He said that the five percent for
parkland had not been left in his
proposed 24-lot subdivision
because he felt council would be
seeking cash.
He also noted that if the land
requirement was approved, he
would have to give the town a
piece of a lot which would be of no
, value to them, while at the same
time the remaining portion of the
lot would be no good to him.
Mayor Bruce Shaw pointed out
that council and the planning
board had decided that the cash
settlement was generally too
small to be of any use, while the
land could appreciate in value
and be sold for a higher figure at
a later date if council so wished.
He also advised Veri that the
land did not have to be a part of
the subdivision but could be taken
from other land owned by the
developer, if he wished.
Veri wondered if the 15-foot
right-of-way he gave for the park
access could be considered as the
five percent donation for park
purposes.
Shaw replied that the right-of-
way was a "different ball game"
and Reeve Derry Boyle reminded
Veri that council had done him a
big favor in changing the location
of the right-of-way so he could
sell another lot.
Noting that the small portion of
land under consideration would
be of little value, Veri pointed to a
parcel of land on Sanders St. East
which had been received from
another developer. Veri said he
A St. Marys couple were
treated for cuts and bruises at
South Huron Hospital on
Saturday following an accident in
which their vehicle struck a
raised manhole cover at the
intersection of Mill and Market
Streets in the town of Exeter:
About $400 damage resulted to
the undercarriage and front of
the car owned by James and
Margaret Angus.
About $2,200 resulted in a three-
car collision in front of Exeter
Electric on Main Street Satur-
day. Cars driven by Gail Fuller of
Exeter, Gregory Campbell of
Hensall and Frank Fields of RR3
Exeter were involved. Two
passengers in the Fields vehicle,
Lauretta Fields and Lawrence
Reichert of Zurich were injured
and taken to South Huron
had lived in the area of that land
for 16 years and it was nothing
more than a weed patch.
He said a small parcel of land
wasn't enough to do anyone any
good.
Deputy-reeve Tom MacMillan
said council of that day had made
an error in accepting the lot
mentioned by Veri and said that
the town had some say in what
land to choose,
It was finally decided to have
RAP meet with council and Veri
to resolve the matter as quickly
as possible so the subdivision
agreement could be approved,
Hospital for treatment.
Two youths who harrassed
Constable Robertson during his
investigation of the Main Street
accident were charged with
mischief and will appear in court
at a later date.
A two-car collision Friday
morning on Exeter's Main Street
resulted in $1,200 damage. The
cars were driven by Joseph
Robbins of Main Street and
Frances Chisholm of RR 4
Goderich.
A minor accident involving
three cars occurred on Main
Street Sunday afternoon. There
were no injuries and damages
totalled $450. Drivers were Judith
A. Pitt of RR3 Lucan, John
McKay of St. Marys and Calvin
Hope of Windsor.

A former Exeter area man was
sentenced to a total of 20 months
in reformatory when he appeared
before Judge Glenn Hays in
Exeter court, Tuesday.
Kenneth James White, who had
resided at RR 3 Exeter, had been
charged with breaking into
Kongsldlde Ltd. on March 7 and
later charged with failing to
appear in court as ordered.
Three credit cards were taken
from the local industry at the
time of the breakin.
The court learned that White
had a previous theft conviction,
He was given 18 months on the
break and enter charge and an
additional two months fox failing
to appear in court.
Marion Arlene Wood, RR 3
Dashwood, was given a
suspended sentence of two years
and a continuance of a probation
period when she appeared for
sentencing on a charge of
possessing stolen property.
She was charged with having
$50 worth of meat stolen from the
freezer of an area home. In a
previous court sitting, Douglas
Erwin Holt, RR 2 Grand Bend,
was sentenced to 21 days in jail
for theft of the meat.
The court was advised that Ms.
Wood is still on probation from a
previous theft conviction. Acting
crown attorney A.N. Lang said
that incarceration would not
really be helpful and noted that
the welfare of the woman's two
children was more important
than anything else.
Alex Guy Smith, Exeter, was
remanded until today (Thur-
sday) for appearance in Goderich
for sentencing on three theft
charges.
He pleaded guilty to the theft of
a mini bike from an Exeter
residence on August 18, a tape
deck and speaker on August 27
and $20 in currency from a Huron
Park home on the same date.
The youth has just turned 16
and has no place to live at present
and the court is attempting to see
if Hope Manor in Kitchener will
accept him.
A Huron Park man, Murray
Alexander Paquette, was fined a
total of $100 on two charges of
possessing stolen property. A
tape player and four tapes were
found in his possession. The items
were valued at over $100.
. In other cases heard by Judge
Hays and Justice of the Peace
Douglas Wedlake, the following
fines were levied:
Jeffrey H. Gooding, Kitchener,
$50 for driving his car onto a
railway right-of-way on July 6.
He drove his car some distance
prehended Friday following an
accident on the Main Street.
Michael Laird of Greenwood,
Nova Scotia reported a vehicle
struck his from behind and the
driver left the scene. Damage
was $75 and the driver of the hit
and run vehicle has been charged
and will appear in court.
up the CN3 tracks off Huron St.
in Exeter on that date before
getting stuck. It required a tow
truck to get the vehicle freed.
Raymond Gordon Keller,

$14.95 watch from an area store
on July 12, He told the court he
needed the watch to get grocery
money,
James Regier, RR 8 Parkhill,
$78 for damaging a stop sign in
Stephen on December 8 and for
failing to report the incident.
Philip Gratton, Stratford, $125
for failing to have approved life
jackets for the 10 people on board
his boat operating on Lake Huron
on July 6. The court learned there
was only one approved and one
unapproved life jacket on the
boat.
Victor Phillips, London, $25 for
failing to have registration let-
ters on the boat he was operating.
The boat was registered and the
owner said he had just recently
painted it and had forgotten to
put the numbers on.

charge for carving his initials
into a tree in front of the Crediton
United Church. He had
