Firemen on pair of calls Fire of unknown origin com- pletely destroyed a barn in the northwest corner of the village of Hensall on Tuesday night. The barn the property of Al's Supermarket, was actually worth very little and was not in use, according to Russ Goldstein. There was nothing in the barn at the time of the fire, about eight o'clock, Firemen responded and were on the scene for about an hour. Shed fire Hensall Fire Brigade responded to one call last Wednesday for a small fire in a shed at the farm of Lambert Branderhorst in Tuckersmith Township. Mr. Earl Campbell who un- derwent surgery in St. Joseph's Hospital in London last week is reported to be improving each day. Mrs. Annie Reid has accepted employment at the Queensway Nursing Home and commenced her duties this week. Mr. & Mrs. Roy Allison of Toronto visited with the latter's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. & Mrs. Joe Flynn, and with their mother, Mrs. Mooney. Mrs. Bertha MacGregor returned home after spending a week's vacation with Mr. & Mrs. Don MacLaren, Jodi and Brooke in Oakville and also visited with Cpl. Doug Wein R.C.M.P. and Mrs. Wein and David. Mr. & Mrs. Ross Corbett and Jeff in company with Mr. & Mrs. Morris Taylor, Pam and San- dra, of Clinton, returned from a three week trip to the Maritimes, visiting with Mr. & Mrs. Jack Bell in Newcastle, New Brun- swick, and also with Mr. & Mrs. Jack Parks in Moncton, New Brunswick. They toured Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia and returned by way of Maine, Vermont and New York State. Mrs. Peter L. McNaughton returned home after undergoing treatment in Victoria, London. Mrs. Eddison Forrest has returned home after being a patient • in University Hospital. Mrs.Cliff Britton has returned home after being a patient in Stratford General Hospital and Seaforth Community Hospital. There will not be any Hensall 4- H Girls Club for the next project, "Let's bake bread," due to lackof leaders. The Women's Institute hopes to sponsor the spring project. With the Fall begins a new year of monthly gatherings which emphasize the importance of women's education and contributions to the community. Every women in the Institute has the opportunity to participate in a variety of ways whether arranging for guest speakers or a chance to make the dethocratic process work at the grass roots level. Helpers and leaders alike find involvement every month. September's meeting will be a pot luck supper, An open in- vitation is extended to women to join us for supper on September 10 at 7 p.m. in the Legion rooms. This is International Women's Year so we ask "Why Not". Why not come out this fall and see what the Women's Institute is all about? Hensall council Tuesday night decided to investigate the possibility of applying for a Local Initiatives Program grant to establish a drop-in centre for senior citizens. The decision was made after a delegation consisting of Charles Hay and Percy Campbell asked for a spot for senior citizens to play cards. Since recent renovations of the town hall, seniors have not been able to use the facility. Councillor Harold Knight in- formed council that liquor licences for functions at the arena would be discontinued until facilities there are improved to the satisfaction of the Liquor Board of Ontario and fire authorities, The tender of Borland and Orchard of Thorndale to supply a new lighting system on King Street was accepted. Total cost will be $23,000 A delegation of council and village representatives will be in Toronto on September 16 when tenders are opened by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment for the new sewage system. Heil officially assumed his duties Tuesday after spending two weeks with his predecessor, Earle Shapter. Heil, at the age of 24 comes to the Hensall position after spending sometime in the treasury department of the town of Pelham in the Niagara Region. The new clerk along with his wife Marian are this week moving into their new home they purchased at 92 Brock street in the village. After two weeks in Hensall, Heil remarked, "Of all the places we have been Hensall has to have the friendliest people we have ever met," Church news Chiselhurst Church will celebrate their 115th anniversary on Sunday September 7 at 2:30 p.m. when Rev, Harold Currie will be the guest speaker.
