The Exeter Times-Advocate, 1975-08-28, Page 9Popular with fans Back from Philly Chipchase coach at Roanoke will take over official duties as coach of the Roanoke Valley Rebels when training sessions start October 1. The appointment of Chipchase, better known as "Chipper" will be a popular one with the fans in Roanoke. He was a valuable member of the Rebels for about six years. During that time he was named to the league all star team on four occasions and was selected by the fans as the most popular member of the team. The 1974-75 hockey season saw CAHA expands coaching program On April 25, 1974 William McMurtry was commissioned by the Province of Ontario to con- duct an "investigation and Inquiry into Violence in Amateur Hockey," What is being done re "Violence in Hockey?" The Canadian Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) has ex- panded the National Coaches' Certification Program (NCCP) and the National Referees' Certification Program (NRCP) Bob Nadin, the newly appointed referee-in-chief for the CAHA will assist the various provinces with the implementation of the NRCP, The objectives of the NRCP are the following: to standardize the methods and techniques of of- ficiating in both the two and three man system. to improve the quality of officiating in Canada; to motivate individuals to become involved in officiating. In Kitchener,August 15, 16, 17 Ontario outlined its NRCP plans at the first annual "Ontario Referee Instructors' Seminar" Don Robb, the newly appointed Assistant Technical Director for the OHA invited 70 instructors and executives from the various branches and associations throughout the Province (OHA, OMHA, ODHA, TBAHA, MTHL, NOHA) to finalize instructions for the scheduled referee clinics in the fall. To date 150 clinics have been organized with an involvement of approximately 6,000 referees. The clinics are designed to provide information re rules and officating for coaches, spec- tators, players; not only the referees. All referees involved in hockey at any level provincially will be carefully evaluated and certified at these clinics. Since the major emphasis of both the National Coaches' Certification Program and the National Referees' Certification Program is on the establishment of acceptable behaviour for the participants in hockey, the long range result should be very positive in all aspects of the game. Chipchase move to Philadelphia as an assistant coach to Greg Pilling with the North American league team there. In an article in the Roanoke Times, a week ago, Chipchase said he would ice an agressive, exciting hockey team. He added, "I won't* say we will be first, second or third, but there are two teams that won't make the playoffs and we won't be one of them," Chipchase confirmed that he has talked to the Philadelphia Flyers and expects his choice of three or four amateurs including at least one goalie. The new coach along with general manager Bob Pane have also been in touch with Ron Ingram of the San Diego Mariners and expect some players help. At a press conference, Chip- chase issued a blanket invitation to all former Rebel players living in the area. One, Claude Piche attended the conference. Piche said Chipchase will make Jack Chipchase a great coach. He added, "Everyone in the area knows Chipper and he will be good for Roanoke. Rebel president Barry Hausman had said earlier that he was looking for a combination coach and general manager. After an inverview last week, the general manager's job was of- fered to Paine and he was given a free hand in selecting a coach. Surprisingly, Chipchase headed Paine's list. The general manager said, "It's one of those things. I'd be sitting around having a few drinks with hockey people and they would always say what a good coach Chipper would make."' John is shown here with some of the trophies. T-A photo Kippen marksman cops trophies in Ohio shoot trophy in the all-North American premlinary handicap division with 95 perfect shots out of a 100. Anderson told the T-A Sunday that although his prize money was about $200 when he left Vandalia he expects his total winnings from the meet to reach $500. "I've been shooting traps since 1947, but this is the biggest win I've ever had. After being away from the game for a couple years because of illness I thought my co-ordination was gone, but it all came back in Ohio." commented Anderson. Anderson is one of the very few left handed shooters in the game. He estimates southpaws at about 10 percent of the total com- petitors. The gun used by the Kippen marksman in the Ohio shoot is a Remington 1100 which he has had for nine years. The return to his previous form was indicated this past winter when he hit 190 out of 200 in a shoot in Florida. Anderson has a release trigger On his Remington 1100. The gun is fired by releasing instead of pulling the trigger. Asked if he plans on returning to Ohio next summer, Anderson replied, "I sure will be back. In fact, I'm halfway there already." What can I do? "IMPACT" reminds its readers that, an offer to purchase, if accepted, is indeed, a legally binding contract. The dealer in question has been in the car business a long time and he tells us, that this trick is as "old as the hills," a weekend's free driving at the expense of the car dealer, and furthermore they claim that you have already done this same thing successful- ly with another car dealer, by stopping payment on a cheque you had issued. This time, it seems, you are not getting "off the hook," and as this dealer is very definite, it looks to us that you have bitten off more than you can chew, because car dealers have rights too, you know. Here is what happened: A short time ago her TV set went on the blink, so she called in a repair firm that she located through the yellow pages. They came and took away her set and duly return- ed it "fixed". She paid them $64.25 and on her bill was printed that all parts and labour were guaranteed for 90 days. Her set worked fine for just over a month then went on the blink again, so naturally she called the repair people only to be told, that there would be a charge to even come over and see it. What kind of a guarantee do you call this? This TV repair firm claims that their guarantee is solid but that it DOES NOT include service calls and they maintain that the problem now with your mother's set is a completely "new fault" so they wanted the full payment. Anyhow after much haggling, they have agreed to only bill your mother for new parts, since they don't want, what they say, is, "unnecessary static", as they claim they are a dependable firm who have been established since 1960. HOOGENBOOM 235 0111 509 MAIN STREET I bought (or though I did) two lamp tables from a chain furniture store, and paid a deposit to have them delivered within 7 days. They arrived on the eleventh day but lo and behold were NOT the same as the ones I had ordered. They picked them up 3 days after I phoned to complain, and now after waiting six weeks they phoned to tell me that they can't get me the tables I wanted. They've tried hard to give me something else, but I don't want anything else, just my deposit back. The last time I spoke to them was almost two months ago, and they said a cheque was being mailed to me. I realize the mails are sometimes a bit slow, but this is ridiculous. Can you help me get my own money hack please? We certainly agree that this whole thing is quite ridiculous, because when we talked to their manager, he stated most emphatically, that your cheque for $20 had been mailed two days earlier, You finally received it 15 days later! Hopefully you will now be convinced that it really does pay to shop locally!
