Pennington who played with and against De Gurse in the senior A league recommended the appointment to manager Urbshott. DeGurse said, "I'm happy to be with the Jets. They have a very successful operation. Jack Nairn is a tough fellow to follow. I was a little concerned about my age but I think my senior experience will help to cope with the older players". 11111111111111111111111111I Get going NOW with your handy Canadian Tire CREDIT CARD 1972 FORD PICKUP white. Jets manager Don Urbshott announced Monday that Steve De Gurse of Sarnia would take over the dual capacity of playing coach. De Gurse at 26 years of age is a native of Sarnia with an im- pressive playing record over the past eight years with experience in Junior "B" and "A", Senior "A", professional and European leagues. The new Jets coach is best known in Western Ontario for his performance in 1968-69 when he scored more than 100 points in leading the Strathroy Rockets to the all-Ontario final against Markham. The next year he moved to the Chatham Maroons and another 100 point season. Next came one year stays with the Woodstock and Galt senior "A" teams and then on to Holland for the 1973-74 season. Next were brief stays with Long Island of the Eastern league and Port Huron of the International. In 1973-74 he went to Holland and was playing coach of a No. 1 division team. Last year it was back to the senior "A"and a fling with Brantford. , De Gin-se said he would be stressing defensive play with the Jets. He added, "We have the Minor soccer team is defeated In their only start in Huron Minor Soccer league play this week, the Exeter mosquitoes lost a 5-3 decision to Seaforth. Seaforth led 3-0 at the end of the first half but the Exeterites rallied to tie the score early in the second half. Seaforth rebounded with two successful shots late is, the game to take the victory. David Shaw led the Exeter scoring attack with a two goal effort while Bruce Shaw notched a single score. Urbshott agreed that De Gurse's senior experience and his coaching stay in Holland were enough to counteract any age problems. The Jet will open their training camp at the Huron Park arena on Sunday morning, September 21 at 10 a.m. The first game of the Senior Continental season is slated for the Ilderton arena October 17 with Woodstock supplying the opposition. The regular schedule has been extended to 42 games with the inclusion of a new team from St. Thomas-Port Stanley.
