• Vehicle stolen
cooler broken
Only one accident was in-
vestigated by the Exeter police
this week, but there was one
wilful damage complaint and
also a stolen vehicle.
The accident occurred on
Friday at 4:05 p.m. when vehicles
operated by Beatrice Tate,
Fruitland, and Henry Van-
derspek, RR 1 Woodham, collided
at the intersection of Andrevy and
Sanders St.
Damage was estimated at $700
by Constable Jim McMeekin.
The wilful damage complaint
was received from Andy
Blommaert of the Save U Gas
Bar on Main St, The glass window
on a soft drink cooler was broken.
Blood stains on the glass in-
dicate the person responsible
injured himself in doing the
damage.
Nothing was reported missing
from the cooler and damage was
set at $25.
On Sunday, Kevin Delbridge
reported that a stake truck had
been stolen from the yard at
Exeter Produce & Storage, The
vehicle was later recovered in
Stephen Township.
Constable McMeekin was in
charge of both investigations.
Council briefs
Residents on Huron St. East,
who complained to council last
Meeting about ponding in their
back yards, may soon have some
relief.
It was indicated this week that
Usborne council have had a drain
petition from residents in that
area as well and a municipal
drain is being planned.
If that takes place, the
residents in Exeter will share in
the cost.
This week, a letter was
received from C,S. MacNaughton
adding his name to those who
have been plagued by the water.
He urged council to attempt to
rectify the situtation before the
heavy rainfall this autumn.
He also indicated that the
condition of the street has been
improved, Residents have been
complaining about the road
situation since work on the
sewers commenced. Several
have lost mufflers on the rough
terrain.
Consulting engineer B,M, Ross
advised Aztec Construction that
operations would have to cease
on all main lines of the sewer
until the task of backfilling and
repairing the construction site
had been improved.
Under terms of the contract,
the crew responsible for
restoration is to keep within 1,000
feet of the mainline work.
Exeter council learned Monday
it would cost up to $500 to have a
search done of properties in the
area of the old post office to
determine ownership of laneways
required to give access to
parking.
The town's solicitors, Raymond
& McLean, said they did not have
time to undertake the work
themselves as it would require
almost a full week of searching at
the registry office.
He said a record searcher could
be hired and the cost would be
about $500.
That's a bill that council ap-
parently won't have to face.
Elmer D. Bell, 'Q.C., spent
some time at the registry office
recently searching the titles,
apparently at the request of his
wife, Councillor Barb Bell.
She reported two weeks ago
that there were two right-of-ways
into the property. One leads off
James St. behind The Times-
Advocate and the other off
Andrew St. between properties
owned byLouis Day and the late
Stella Southcott.
Council approved providing an
outlet to residents in the area of
Waterloo and Mill St. fon a drain
they plan to eliminte ponding.
The PUC will also share some
of the cost because the water
builds up around a ground
transformer and this has been
blown out on twobccasions due to
the water.
The town has been advised
verbally they will receive a credit
,for the five months rent paid on
the former post office,
The rent was paid as soon as
approval for use of the building
had been received, but council
were delayed in getting
renovations undertaken because
the lease had not been signed by
department of public works of-
ficials.
That lease has still not been
signed, although renovations
have been started.
Approval was given to ft
request for the establishepient gf
a TV repair shop in a private
residence on William St.
Members felt the request was,
within the regulations contained
in the zoning bylaw.
Exeter council agreed this
week to officially apologize for
suggestions made at a recent
meeting that the PUC was
responsible for a dust problem on
George St.
Council had written the PUC
complaining that the street had
not been properly cleared of dirt
following some excavation,
However, the PUC replied this
week that the street had been
cleaned up and the fault actually
rested with the contractor in-
volved in the Riverview Estates
subdivision.
After council agreed to the
apology Councillor Ted Wright
wondered what would be done
about the dust problem that still
remained,
Works superintendent Glenn
Kells suggested it was up to the
contractor to rectify the problem.
