Two persons died as a result of
area car accidents over the past week,
Werner Meyer, 50, of RR 3
Thorndale was killed Monday
night when the car he was a
passenger in was in collision with
another car on Concession 3 of
West Nissauri Township just
north of Thorndale.
The driver of the car Olive
Meyer, wife of the deceased, was
taken to University Hospital,
London, and is reported to be in
satisfactory condition .
Lucan OPP said the other car
was driven by Sandra McKaig,
16, of RR 1 Thorndale. She and a
passenger, Judith Switzer, 21, of
RR 1 Thorndale, were taken to St.
injuries, treated and released.
A young woman was killed
early Saturday morning July 12
when the car she was driving left
the westbound lane of Highway 7
near Granton and struck a
concrete culvert.

Lucan's tennis -courts are swinging with activity as. many.
people of all ages are discovering
the physical and Social en-joyment involved with the game of tennis.
The first instruction session
began Monday, July 7 and will continue until August '7,
Twenty-four senior players and
20 junior players, the majority of
whom are female, are meeting
twice a week to improve their basic tennis skills.
The courts are free for social
tennis most of each day as in- struction only takes up three and one-half hours per day, Monday &
Thursday, with the morning
sessions going from 9 to ii a.m, and the evening session from 7 to 8;30 p.m.
The courts' side fences are to
be put up soon; so with a few
other additions Lucan will have
two good tennis courts which can
provide many recreational and
social opportunities

21, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the

One of the older senior citizens
of Lucan, Mrs. Percy Wells, was
honoured on her birthday last
Thursday when friends and
relatives from various centres
visited with her.
Mr. & Mrs. Albert Trowhill of
Tillsonburg arrived with a bir-
thday cake, as did Mr. & Mrs. V.
Sandison & baby Stephanie, of
London,
Mrs, Donald Sutherland of
Brinsley brought her a lovely
bouquet of red roses and Mrs.
Mary Clement of Sudbury sent 2
dozen beautiful yellow roses.

Ron Simpson is able to be home
from St. Joseph's Hospital,
following surgery to correct a
knee injury,
Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Grose of
Tillsonburg visited with Miss
L.E. Abbott last Thursday.
Mr. & Mrs. Milton Berger of
Seaforth were Wednesday guests
with Mr. & Mrs. Harold Prince.
Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Hodgins
of Calgary, Alberta, were guests
with Mr. & Mrs. M.H. Hodgins
from Wednesday to Sunday of the
past week. They visited with
other cousins in the area and took
a trip to Niagara Falls on Friday,
accompanied by Mrs. Hodgins.
Mr. & Mrs. Jim Freeman spent
last week at a cottage at Grand
Bend were Mr. & Mrs. Ken Latta
and Tim were weekend guests.
Mrs. Mildred Stoner of Watford
spent last weekend with Mr. &
Mrs. Harold Prince.
Mr. & Mrs. Dean Gibson have
returned from a most enjoyable
three week motor trip to the West
Coast.

Sorry to announce that
Comrade Roy Scott who did a terrific job for the past few years
as Branch 540's sports officer has
found it necessary to retire from
this position. As a token of ap-
preciation, on Friday July 11th
the members of the Sports Club
held a special night for Roy and
his wife. Roy had assured the
comrades that he will do all he
can to assist the newly appointed
