We are having a bit of trouble with a paving com- pany, and as time rolls on it seems to get more com- plicated. We hired a company to pave our driveway, and this they did to our complete satisfaction, but unfortunately in the process they did some damage to our hydro meter. They promised to pay for this when we got our hydro bill. Well that was almost four months ago and we've long since paid the hydro but so far have received no reimbursement. Can "IMPACT" please help us to get this money that we're entitled to? We felt very strongly that you had a good case for the Consumer Protection Bureau to know about, so we informed them about your plight. What transpired between them and the paving company we do not know, however we do know that our readers have since received their full refund from the paving company along with their apologies for the delay. By the time we realized that something was wrong, it was too late and our food was all spoiled. I have tried to get a cheque for $104.18 from the manufacturer, but so far in vain. A serviceman called on us right away and repaired the freezer. He said he would report our loss to the com- pany, and so too did the store that we purchased the freezer from, but that was six months ago and I'm get- ting very fed up with no action after all this time. Our letter from the manufacturer brought back a prompt reply that they were "quite amazed" to get our letter on our reader's behalf, as they claim that they were NOT informed by anyone, either yourself, the store or the serviceman about your predicament. They state very emphatically, however, that they "will most certainly honour the guarantee on their machine." As soon as you complete and return the official claim form that has been mailed out to you, they "will be happy to send you on a cheque for the full amount." It's obvious that somebody goofed here, but, as the old saying goes... "All's well, that end's well." Exeter ORIGINAL Ben 509 MAIN STREET Flowers & Gifts OIL PAINTINGS BUY OR LEASE J. L. HOOGENBOOM 235 61 274 1, 1 What do I do about a magazine subscription com- pany that insists on sending out bills for magazines that I never receive? I became a widow last September, and in February of this year I moved near Hensall to be with my daughter. I notified this firm before I moved and gave them my new mailing address, and now all I've got since coming here is bills! I've no intention of paying for something that I'm not getting. I've written on several occasions but still no magazines arrive here, only bills! I'm quite willing to pay if and when I get my magazines. Can you do anything for me please? Believe it or not, but the head office of this company in the United States, tell us that it's easier to send the magazines than to stop the bills. We're still scratching our head about this one , . . anyway they are going to mail you on the magazines you missed at NO CHARGE, and they advise, "just disregard the bills in your possession", and they will start mailing your new magazines from scratch.
