EXETER 235-1220 My wife and I have been considering the purchase of a swimming pool and lately have been shopping around, Now we get a call from a friendly salesman who informs us that ours is an "ideal residential site" for a model pool, and if we consent to this pool being set up on our property we are supposed to save $2,000 on it s purchase price. Is this a valid offer or just a "come on?" We understand from the Ontario Swimming Pool Associa- tion that companies who advertise in this manner are NOT members of the association and consequently do not adhere to the code of ethics as established by that association. We have also learned that salespeople employed by such companies often do have up to $2,000 to "play with" . . . . meaning that identical pools could be sold for what looks like a $2,000 price difference, in other words mine could cost $3,000 and yours $5,000 (or vice versa) for the same pool. Our advice is to BEWARE, and we suggest that you deal with a member firm of the Ontario Swimming Pool Associa- tion who are known favourably to the government's Con- sumer Protection Bureau. Incidentally, this association has an excellent little pool buyers guide book which they will be happy to send out FREE- to anyone. Simply mail your request to the O.S.P.A. Box 4501, Stn. What do I do to make sure that I get my pension, because I'm sure going to need it. To get the old age "security", as Ottawa now labels it, you don't have to be a citizen to receive it, but you must have resided in Canada for a minimum period of 10 years. The fact that you are unable to locate your birth certificate is not as serious as it may appear. Proof of age is what the govern- ment has to have, and there are a large number of civil ser- vants whose job it is to do just that . . . trace births. All that you have to do is to complete and mail an official application form available from any past office, and tell them the reason why you are unable to produce a birth or bap- tismal certificate. Our trusty civil servants will do the rest. Exeter • ORIGINAL Ben 509 MAIN STREET Flowers & Gifts .,_k OIL PAINTINGS 235-0171DN 1, J. L. HOOGENBOOM BUY OR LEASE Ikk,nivii A few months ago I ordered a sabre saw from a mail order house which was to be sent on approval. If I decided to keep the saw after a 10 day trial period, I was to send them a money order. Well I found their saw to be most satisfactory and mailed them the money order as requested. Now part of their offer was supposed to include a 17-piece screwdriver set, to be sent me FREE if I decided to keep the saw. Well that was close to four months ago, and I'm still waiting for my "FREE GIFT." I personally think that this is a classic case of false advertising. What do you think? "IMPACT" contacted this firm on behalf of our reader and were informed that the success of this advertising campaign had been overwhelming, with the result that they have tem- porarily run out of stock of screwdriver sets. More have been ordered however, and we have been assured that our reader will receive his set within the "very near future."
