Tigers beat last year champs,
blow run lead to Thorndale
Exeter club
makes NAMC
The Exeter squirts will be
participating in the North
America Midget Cup soccer
competition which will include
110 other teams from all parts of
Canada and the United States.
Exeter's application was one of
35 new entries selected from a
total of 627 teams wishing to
participate. Another 67 teams
were automatically accepted
because of past experience
playing in the NAMC.
Local coach Dave Silcock, who
has considerable soccer ex-
perience in England and with the
Detroit Cougars of the North
American league was elated with
the news of his team's selection.
The Exeter club is undefeated
in five games in the Huron Minor
Soccer Association and has not
allowed a goal by the opposition.
Each of the 111 teams will play
six preliminary certified games
and their records will then be
presented to the NAMC com-
mittee.
The 32 teams with the best
preliminary records will make
the playoffs with the final four
surviving teams meeting at
Downing Stadium in New York on
October 4.
Exeter's first preliminary
encounter will be at Germain
Park in Sarnia at 10:30 a.m.
Saturday, June 28.
In a letter to the T-A this week,
coach Silcock commented,
"although my past connections
with the North American
professional soccer league may
have helped get Exeter accepted
I like to believe we were accepted
on merit alone, as I sent in full
proof of their performances this
season,"

• With less than two weeks to the
beginning day of playground
plans are being finalized.
The opening day will be July 7
and at this time we will accept
anyone who has not registered.
We have made one small ad-
justment in registration.
We have decided to still run our
eight week program but if a child
only wants to come half of the
summer he or she may register
for either four weeks in July or
four weeks in August at a fee of
five dollars. The program is run
on a daily basis but strict' at-
tendance is not enforced.
We have made several changes
this year which will benefit the
program. One of the major ones
is moving the Victoria Park
playground up to the Exeter
Public School playground where
we will no longer lack washroom,
telephone and rain shelter
facilities. We have also added a
new dimension to the playground.
It is an intermediate group which
will run out of the Exeter Public
School area.
With all these changes taking
place we feel this will be the best
summer yet. Hope to see you
Monday July 7.
The Dashwood Tigers gained
an even split in two Huron-Perth
intermediate league baseball
games this week. They scored a
decisive 13-6 victory over the
defending league champion
Clinton Colts, Friday night after
suffering a 10-3 defeat in Thorn-
dale, Wednesday.
The Clinton Colts were back in
Dashwood last night Wednesday
and Thorndale will provide the
opposition Friday night at the
Dashwood athletic field at 8 p,m,
The Tigers bats boomed with 16
hits against the strong Clinton
club coming up with all 13 runs in
the last five innings after being
blanked for the first three
frames,
Clinton scored all six runs in
the first four innings before the
Tigers were able to get their
attack rolling. In the bottom of
the fourth John Hayter walked
and scored on successive singles
by Bill Schade, Randy Tiernan
and Jim Dietrich.
In the fifth frame a double by
Hayter and singles delivered by
Schade and Bob Hoffman sent
two more Dashwood runs across
the plate,
The Tigers moved into the lead
in the sixth with a four run out-
burst and they were never
headed. Two-baggers from the
bats of Dave Parsons and Bill
Schade and singles from Bob
Hoffman and John Hayter
provided the power.
A single Tiger tally in the
seventh came home when Gary
Squirts get
fifth victory
In a fine display of soccer at
Exeter High School, Monday
night, the Exeter Squirts
defeated their Goderich coun-
terparts 3-0 in Huron Minor
Association play.
Goalkeeper Dennis Eisen-
schink gained his fifth shutout in
as many starts, and the Exeter
team now have a total of 16 goals
to their credit without reply.
George Pratt defended well for
Exeter, and Eugene Glanville
and Scott Miller provided some
excellent mid-field plays.
Scott Lovie led the home attack
with two well taken goals early in
the game, and he found the
netting again from a free-kick
mid-way through the second half,
Hartman tripled and scored on
another double by Dave Parsons.
Five big runs in the bottom of
the eighth completed the Dash-
wood marking, Four hits
responsible for the outburst were
contributed by Jim Guenther,
Randy Tiernan, Jim Dietrich and
Gary Hartman,
Veteran right bander Bill
Schade started on the mound for
the Tigers and went the first six
innings giving up only four hits,
Southpaw Jim Guenther came on
in the seventh and Perry Stover
appeared as a reliefer in the
ninth.
Against Thorndale, Wednesday
the Tigers were holding a 3-2 lead
after seven innings when
Thorndale broke loose with an
eight run barrage in the eighth to
salt away the victory.
The first Tiger score came in
the second inning when Jim
Hoffman rounded the bases
without the aid of a hit, Perry
Stover singled in the Dashwood
fifth and scored on a single by
Dietrich, a sacrifice, a walk and a
hit batsman.
Bill Schade walked to start off
the Dashwood seventh and came
around to score as Dave Parsons
was safe oh a Thorndale fielding
