Because of the strawberry supper in June, the next Marian Ritchie meeting was postponed until Monday, June 23, at 9 p.m. Mrs. Lloyd Miller recorded 20 cards and 5 visits to shut-ins, then gave the topic, A Hopeful Month, which referred to the month of May as one of hope. She described other events in the Bible, in the comic strips, and in the world, which showed the importance of hope to us. The book dealt with the manner in which schools were being used as a means of getting the Gospel to people in India, Nigeria, Taiwan and the West Indies. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Robert Laing. Personals John Wallace's Cromarty senior girls' ball team started out the season with a big bang by defeating Exeter girls in a lop- sided game on Tuesday night. TEMPLEMAN STAFFA Mrs. Alvin Barbour, Mrs. Frank Hamilton and Mrs. Carter Kerslake were hostesses for the May meeting of the Staffa Women's Institute held in the township hall on Wednesday May 21 at 8:30 p.m. The president, Mrs. Charles Douglas presided and opened with the Institute Ode and Mary Stewart Collect. The president then welcomed the guests, 4-H girls, leaders and former leaders to the meeting. A candle was lit in memory of a Life Member, Mrs, Penelope Fell, who passed away on Sun- day, May 11. After observing a two minute silence in her memory, Mrs. Douglas read Psalm 23, There were eight members and 11 visitors present and the roll call was answered by, "A clothing style I enjoy wearing and why." Mrs. Douglas presented a paper on the Motto, "Look for the best, it is often near you." The district president, Mrs. Carter Kerslake, made a presentation of an Institute Pin (on behalf of the Staffa W.I.) ‘tp Mrs. John Miller, for serving so well as president. A trillium cup and saucer was presented to Joanne Ross for successfully completing 12 4-H projects and receiving her provincial honours. Mrs. Douglas presented Mrs. Arthur Smale and Mrs. William Butson each with a gift for their leadership with the 4-H girls. Nancy Templeman from Staffa No. 1 club, commented on their display, "Clothes for Liesure," and Kathy Douglas from Staffa No. 2 club, commented on their display, "Trim with Imagination". Mrs. George Vivian conducted a quiz on "Test Your Safety IQ" which proved most interesting. Mrs. John Miller gave an in- teresting report on the district annual meeting held at Kirkton on May 20. Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Kemp at- tended the graduation of their niece Jane Francis on Thursday at Waterloo University. Mr. & Mrs. John Templeman and family attended the graduation of their daughter and sister Darlene on Friday at Waterloo University. John Ashton, Woodstock, is spending a few days with his aunt and uncle, Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Kemp. Mr. & Mrs. Russell Miller, and family were guests at the Butson - Young wedding at Hibbert United Church on Saturday. Jim and Gary Norris, Bramp- ton visited on the weekend with Mrs. Sam Norris and Mr. & Mrs. Bob Norris and family. Mr. & Mrs. Clifton Miller visited on Sunday with Mrs. Mary Mary Anne Gielen was among the large group of university graduates last weekend held at Brescia College, London. Mr. & Mrs. Wm. McCann at- tended their nephew's wedding held in London last week. Mr. & Mrs. Joe Hogan and girls, Exeter spent Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Wilfred Hogan. Jane Glavin, London was a weekend guest with her parents Mr, & Mrs. Pat Glavin. Many ladies from this com- munity attended a bridal shower for Joanne Cronyn, a June bride, held for her in Centralia Com- munity Centre on Tuesday. Bishop Carter has appointed Rev. Father Charles Sullivan as an assistant pastor to Rev, Father John Mooney P.P. to begin May 28. A very special event took place at the Motherhouse of Mount St. Joseph's Academy London, as some of the Sisters celebrated a 60th anniversary of the religious profession. Mr. & Mrs. Wm. McCann were guests when the latters' aunt, Sister St. Omer (Glavin) was among the sisters to celebrate that anniversary. Family gathers to mark birthday Forty-five people gathered at the Kirkton-Woodham Com- munity Centre on Sunday, May 18 in honour of Mrs. Irene Ford's 85th birthday.
