E. Abbott is still on the sick list and goes in for X-rays this week. Ernie Ross is now out of "in- tensive care" at St, Joseph's hospital, following a heart attack, and is recuperating satisfac- torily. Earl Haskett was taken to St. Joseph's hospital Monday morning, following a heart at- tack. Russell Needham is in St, Joseph's hospital and is very ill. Mr. & Mrs, Don Abbott, Manitoulin Island have been , visiting with friends and relatives in the community. Last Monday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Cliff Abbott were Mrs. Madeline Tindall of Listowel, Mrs. George Youngblut and Tad of Gowanstown and Edythe Mugford of Lucan. Mrs, Frank Stanley, Highway 7, has a new granddaughter, Sheilah Leigh on April 28. She is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Bill Bond, who are now living on the "home" farm, Conc. 16. Mr. N. C. Law of Dearness Home, London was a weekend guest with his sister and her husband, Mr. & Mrs. M. H. Hodgins. Mr. & Mrs. Len Maslen, Linda, Allen and Terry were guests with Mr. &Mrs. Cliff Hartwick at their Port Franks Cottage, Friday night and Saturday. Mr. & Mrs. Cart Ford of Moose Lake, Minn. have returned home after spending a week with Mrs. Frank Stanley, Highway 7. Mrs. Howard Currie and Mrs. Ruth Grider and Jane spent last weekend in Ottawa, guests with Mr. & Mrs. Chester O'Donnell, (nee Alice Frost). Mrs. Harold Cobleigh ac- companied her sister, Mrs. Bill Killam of New Market to Orlando, Florida for a week's holiday, staying with Mr. & Mrs. William Killam, Sr, Mr. & Mrs. Harold Prince spent Mother's Day with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Ted Kostecki, London. Mr. & Mrs. Harold Cobleigh spent Sunday with their daughters and son-in-laws, Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Mayhew, London and Mr. & Mrs. Brent Bamford, RR 3, Thorndale. Mr. & Mrs. Donald Abbott, Manitoulin Island, Mrs. Donald Smith (nee Janice Abbott and children and Mr. Utah Wen- nerston were Tuesday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Harold Prince. Mr. & Mrs. Dale Hotson of Kitchener were weekend guests Lucon district news. Three of the five accidents investigated this week by officers of the Lucan detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police oc- curred Friday. At 1.15 a.m., a vehicle driven by John Robinson, RR 3, Ailsa Craig left Concession road 8-9 in McGillivray township and struck a tree. Robinson and a passenger, Rebecca Robinson, Ailsa Craig suffered minor injuries. Con- stable N. A. Campbell' set damages at $1,000. Exactly 12 hours later on High- way 7 at County road 23, Con- stable J. A. Wilson estimated damages at $1,400 when vehicles driven by Austin Hobbs, Granton and Elsie Sarabura, Thornhill collided. Constable James Craig was the investigating officer at the scene of a mishap on County road 23 at Concession 15 in London township at 8.15 p.m. Drivers of the vehicles involved were Frederick Alfred, RR2, Denfield and Douglas Blackshaw, Owen Sound. Damages were set at $700. The first accident of the week occurred on Highway 4 at County road 16 on Wednesday at 515 p.m. Constable B. D. Munro listed damages at $1,200. Drivers of the vehicles were George Lee, RR 2, Lucan and Guiseppe Favara, 35 Afton Road, London. Tuesday morning, May 13 at 1.30 a.m. a vehicle driven by Rose Semeniuk, RR4, Thamsford was A beautiful film of "Rogers Pass" was shown by Cecil Robb, on Thursday afternoon, at the Lucan Senior Citizens Club. It showed the discovery of the pass, the building of the road, and the building of the railroad. The scenery in the mountains was breathtaking, Members of the Sunshine Group played euchre and added the number of persons in their respective families to their scores. Winners were: lady's high, Mary Hodgson, lady's lone hands, Rose Atkinson; men's high, Clare Lewis, lone hands, Miss Semeniuk was taken to University hospital by OPP cruiser and was treated for cuts and bruises, Constable D. R. Vance investigated. Marjorie Steeper, playing a man's card, The Busy Buddies continued with their most interesting bead work craft under the leadership of Gerry Zinn. New members are welcome each Thursday at 1:30, If you are joining the craft group please bring a pair of needle-nosed pliers with you. Lions approve service projects At their meeting on Monday evening the Lucan & District Lions Club approved sponsorship of the following projects: St. Patrick's school patrol to attend the Patrol Leader Training Camp, $132.00, bantam softball team, coached by Danny Gwalchmai, $150.00 and assisting in the sponsoring of the juvenile softball team, amounting to $300.00. The "try-outs" for the Amateur Show at Lucan Fair, August 15, 16, 17 were held at Biddulph School last Friday night. The adjudicator, Karen Sexton, of London, advised the con- testants how their numbers could be impr oved. It was the decision of the committee, chaired by Lion Don Leitch, to have all contestants appear at the show, August 16. "Big Al" will again M.C. the program and it is anticipated that all competitors will appear on the "Big Al" Show late in September. District man passes away The funeral of the late John Patrick Jerome O'Brien was held at St. Patrick's Church, Bid, dulph, on Thursday, May 8, with Father J. McGraw saying the funeral mass. C. Haskett & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. O'Brien was the beloved husband of Doris (Vicky) O'Brien and dear father of Steve, Denise and Tony, all at home. He was the son of Mrs. Isabella O'Brien and the late John O'Brien of Stratford and brother of Joseph, Vincent, (Margaret) Mrs. Jim Walsh and Gerald O'Brien, all of Stratford, (Mary) Mrs. Jim Hood of Port McNichol and Frank O'Brien deceased (1963). The pallbearers were Jack Collis, Larry Swanson, Ronald Pocock, Lloyd Nickle, Uno Isacsson and Bruce Lawson. with his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Hotson and brother David. They enjoyed an advance Mothers' Day dinnerat "The Old Mill", Parkhill, on Saturday evening. On Sunday, Mr. !Si Mrs. Ed. Roth and family of Guelph and Mr. & Mrs. Larry Hotson and Amanda of Lucan joined them for a family get-to-gether. Of the many gifts, floral arrangements and cards received by Miss L. E. Abbott over the weekend, probably the one most appreciated was the beautiful single red rose sent to her by a one-time League of Loyalty member who like "the elephant never forgets". Mr. & Mrs. W. Ward Hodgins, Jennifer and Megan of Vanastra Park and Mr, & Mrs. E. Wayne Hodgins, RR 3, Ilderton, were Saturday guests with Mr. & Mrs. M. H. Hodgins. Ward, Barb. and the children also visited with her parents, Mr, & Mrs. Arthur Cunningham. Senior citizens enjoy films of mountains damaged to the extent of $1,500 the "B" championship in the Lucan ladies bowling league this year. when it left Concession 12 in Back, left, Barb Coughlin, Nellie Boshart and Karen Richard.
